Re the reserve soldier who is a Financial Advisor. I take my hat off to him, he’s doing a full time job that is very high tempo mentally, by joining the reserves this allows him to “destress” by doing something that is very physically demanding which balances out his life.

I was infantry reservist for 4rs, joined at 28, 47 just now lol. Thanks man its imbeded in the soul my experience and it stands out It betters oneself it's the edge. I wish I could still do it🙏

Good video. I went for a job interview and the two people interviewing me was a young manager & a 2IC who was in his 50s during the mid-90s. The 2IC asked about my time in Army Reserves Infantry and I replied, I loved it as much as I hated it. However, I just kept turning up and having a go. I got a phone call that night from the 2IC saying it came down to myself and another person and I got the job. He said one of the main differences was the fact I had done Army Reserves. He also told me he was an ex-Nasho and laughed about my honesty when I said I loved it as much as I hated it. He felt the same way about his National Service time.

Loved the video mate. Just applied for the infantry reserves. Used to play pro rugby overseas and really miss that physicality and mate ship. I think I got tired of sitting around these latte sipping, woke bandwagoners that take this country for granted and wanted to do something. Like the bloke in the video I’m deliberately choosing a combat role. 🍻

I’ve been in the army reserve for close to 5 years now. It’s coming to the point though where I’m about to put in a formal transfer request to the the regular army.

See if you can get on a cfts gig if your unit is running any, the transfer from cfts to full time is extremely quick and easy.

@@beyondbackwater4933 Can’t, I’ve already asked. I’m in infantry corps, but I’m not a rifleman (343), my role is patrolman (304) which is a reserve only role. And only exists in RFSU units, which there are only 3. So CFTS contracts for the job doesn’t exist. When transferring to ARA I’ll have to trade transfer. Luckily I won’t have to corps transfer though, that’s a longer process.

@@Ausanan oh fair enough, well I suppose just wait and hope your rank don't stuff around and stall the process. From what I hear there's only a 2 year minimum service period when coming from reserves, I would have done the same if I didn't get in my current civilian job.

I was in Army reserve with SUR. Loved it. The best time of my life. I recommend. I actually wanted to join regular army. Australian army is the best.

@@lukphom5590 all soldiers dressed clean, uniform ironed, boots clean and shiny. Most importantly when order issued by a commanding officer the whole group of soldiers act as one.

I originally wanted to do navy full-time and then return to civilian life, however after seeing how full-time navy works, I don't think it's for me. However part-time army seems good, maybe I'll join after i finish my studies

@@sgtmusic It went pretty well lol. Honestly I was so stressed about it, but honestly it wasn't even that bad. I got recommended, now I just have to do my PFA. My recruiter also recommended me the DUS (Defence University Sponsorship) since I am doing Engineering in uni and the army will pay all my fees and sponsor me in return for 4 years of service, which is a pretty good deal so I might consider that.

Reserves would be so much better if there was a fair distribution of roles all throughout the states. For example RAAC Regiments in SA and WA get loads of exercises and genuine training, especially the Adelaide regiment which forms(formed) 1ARs recon sqn. However RAAC units on the East coast are basically relegated to support roles and TSRs and are hardly utilised on exercises. Basically if you're not Infantry you dont get a whole lot of worth while training. You turn up on Tuesday nights and get stuffed around for 3 hours then learn that your unit wont be utilised in any upcoming ex's. Back in the old days(20+ years ago) reserves played an integral role in the Army and were utilised for every exercise and even overseas operations. Take Timor and Solomons for example where entire Reserve Regiments were sent on rotations. Thats unheard of now. The ARA look at chocs are burdens.

Like what kind of work/training do you get up to when you're in on the weekends as an infantry reserve? How different from the normal infantry is it? Stuff like that. I have seriously been thinking about the reserves as a way to turn myself around. Do you think over 40 is too old for the reserves? Im looking at the driver positions. Cheers mate

I was thinking for joining Army reserve just because I’m in University. I was thinking of going full time as medic or infantry when my degree finishes. The only thing I’m worried about is (and I know it sounds dumb) but I don’t know how to swim at all and hear that there is swim test at kapooka. I wanted to know what happens if you can’t swim in the army or in basic training. Do you fail and get sent out? Or it doesn’t matter. Hope to hear soon from anyone who has done it before. Thanks

Mate if you can’t swim go learn it will liberate you my friend .. Successful people work on their weaknesses until they have none left.. Swimming is an assumed skill set and it’s also important to be able to swim so you’re not a danger or liability to the team.. Swimming is also a low impact high intensity alternate pt session.. I know it can be embarrassing as an adult to learn something late like driving and or swimming or even using power tools but I know you can do it cobber..

There is a BMI standard and a fitness standard, why not use this as a mission to take back and save your own life, the military can be harsh with their advice but we will never lie to your face like friends and family do..
