Red Heeler (Age 11) and Blue Heeler (Age 1) playing. They really love each other.
Background:
Three weeks prior to adopting Chris (Blue), Stark (Red) and I lost our precious 16.5 year old Collie mix girl, Dolly, to an inoperable brain tumor and Cushing's Disease.
Stark was suddenly the only dog for the first time since I adopted him for Dolly in 2013. He was lethargic and depressed. It was like he had lost the will to live. He wouldn't even play ball.
Chris has been a godsend for both of us. The perfect addition to our family. Stark is happy and active again. ❤️
Stark loved Chris from the moment they met, which is very odd because Stark does not like most male dogs.
Chris loved Stark too. It was amazing.
I drove just over an hour to the Animal Control Facility where Chris was so Stark could meet him. The workers were very wary when they met, but their worries were unfounded. They told me I should separate them on the ride home, but I ignored their warning. I have over 60 years of experience with dogs. I knew they'd be fine in the back seat dog hammock thing together, and they were. Just perfect together. No problems at all.
I had Chris's DNA done and discovered he is related to Stark. As related as grandfather/grandson, so maybe that is why? I have no real clue. They just love each other.
Notice in the video how respectful they are of each other. Around 38 seconds in one or both of them needed a break, so they both stopped to catch their breath. They stop again at around 56 seconds and at 1:05 minutes or so. At 1:30 minutes Chris leaves the wrestling match to look out the door. Signaling that he is about finished for now. He came back one more time. I stopped filming because they spontaneously stopped wrestling. 🤷🏻♀️
Stark is often the instigator of the wrestling matches. Wrestling is his favorite thing next to playing ball. It is often Chris who stops first. 🤷🏻♀️
As to Stark's weight:
Stark was $4000.00 worth of sick when I adopted him from a kill shelter in 2013. He literally pooped so much blood that he had to have a blood transfusion. An internal medicine vet finally diagnosed him with a rare form of colitis that the antibiotic, Baytril, cures, but the damage to his metabolism from all the Prednisone was done. He has never been able to lose the Prednisone weight.
Stark eats ONE and a half cups of special weight loss kibble per evening along with one morning dog treat. His vet says his food should not be cut further. He is walked at least one mile per day, weather permitting, and plays ball daily. Walks are farther in winter months. The South Carolina heat prevents very long summer walks.
Stark's bloodwork is perfect. His vet says he is as healthy as can be. Stark will be 12 years old in October 2022, so he will definitely not die young.
NOTE:
ALL DEROGATORY WEIGHT COMMENTS WILL BE REMOVED. STARK IS NOT OVERFED.
