AUSTRALIAN First Reaction To EL PIB (Day Of The Dead) Reaction 

In México, we dont celebrate death, we remember our family...

I love the hints of her death throughout, they vary from subtle to right in your face: -She is the only girl/woman using pure white clothes (no colored embroidery). -The mother does not look or call for her in the field, doesn't actually show sign of acknowledgment. -No sign of acknowledgment in the kitchen (gran tells the auntie off about not getting involved in the cooking for having cold hands, but not a word to Maria even when she was getting involved). -Mentioning that the souls consume the essence of the food which is exactly what she reaches for (This is when I actually noticed she was dead). -Her grandpa mentioning that her mother made the Pib for her. -Her photo being put up along side the one of her grandpa. -Flat-out spelled out that it was the first Pib for her. I wouldn't be surprised if I missed others.

Yes, The Pib is very touching, moving. It is in Mayan dialect, which is spoken in Yucatán. I love the little girl's tender voice, and it is very impressive when you realize she is dead when she takes the food from the altar and talks with her grandfather. Greetings from México City. Ese día es grande para nosotros los mexicanos, nos sentimos muy tristes pero a la vez felices de que nuestros difuntos estén con nostros en escencia aunque sea un momento, es maravilloso ver como las familias ponen su ofrenda y mientras recuerdan tantas cosas de sus difuntos. Como México no hay 2!!

“LA CELEBRACIÓN DEL DÍA DE MUERTOS NO SOLO DURA DOS DÍAS” Según los abuelos la tradición comienza en este orden: - Comienza el día 28 de Octubre y se prende la primera luz (veladora blanca) y una flor blanca para dar la bienvenida a las animas solas. - El día 29 de Octubre se prende otra veladora y se coloca un vaso con agua dedicado a difuntos olvidados y desamparados. - El día 30 de Octubre se prende una nueva veladora se coloca otro vaso con agua y se pone un pan blanco (bolillo o telera) para los difuntos que se fueron sin comer o los que tuvieron algún accidente. - El 31 de Octubre se prende otra veladora, ponemos otro vaso con agua, otro pan blanco y colocamos una fruta (mandarina, naranja o guayaba) esto es para los muertos de los muertos (ancestros) o sea los abuelos de tus papas que algunos tuvimos o tienen el gusto de conocerlos (bisabuelos). - El día 1 de Noviembre que es el día que se conoce como día de los muertos pequeños o niños, en este día se pone toda la comida dulce, calabaza, guayaba, chocolate, miel, flores, etc. - El día 2 de Noviembre conocido como el “día de los fieles difuntos” o de los muertos grandes, es el día que se coloca toda la comida, cigarros y sus cervezas y en todos los días de la celebración obvio se ponen flores, se quema incienso de copal de preferencia - Al final, el día 3 de Noviembre se prende la última veladora blanca se quema copal y se les despide pidiendo que vuelvan el siguiente año.

Nosotros no celebramos la muerte, si no recordamos lo que fueron en vida nuestros seres queridos, reimos y lloramos cuando platicamos las travesuras o las anécdotas que pasamos con los que ya se fueron. Esto te enseña a qué siempre trates de ser una buena persona para que cuando mueras, alguien te llamé regreso al mundo de los vivos al pensar en ti.
