Great point. Pest animals (not game animals, including deer, duck, Stubble Quail or other game birds) can be hunted at night with spotlights on private property and some public land that is not recognised deer habitat. The trouble is that what is and isn't considered a "recognised deer habitat" isn't super clear or easy for the public to learn. Technically you can hunt pest animals (non-indigenous species) including rabbits, hares, foxes, pigs, goats, feral cats and wild dogs in state forest/crown land with a spot light at night, but it can't be in a "recognised deer habitat". So when it comes to deer hunting, you can only legally spot light them on private property. Great question, thank you for helping me clarify this.
