Fact is that parents are not welcome and everything is generalized and no attention is given to individual circumstances. My case: I have two daughters in Australia. One PR and the other one close to it….and 3 very young grandchildren 3 and 7. We, my wife and I decided after Corona to move to Australia on a contributory parent visa. Also to give our daughters the possibility to continue to work and helping with the children. At that time we were told waiting time 4-7 years now 12-15. I have worked for the UN. I have a very substantial pension and a lifelong world-wide valid health insurance. I do not need any social services. The medical costs are covered by the insurance. My pension is taxable from the first day with more than 30% BUT although I do not need, no access to Medicare, Centerlink, not even a concession card. So what cost am I to Australia?? I breath the air, I use the roads, I pay a lot of money for mediocre housing and expensive food-stuffs. The nice beaches are fortunately free. When I get the visa in 15 years I will be 80 have paid 450k in taxes plus 96k for my wife and me entrance ticket. I find that scandalous.

agreed Australian gov can just make 2 types of parents visa instead of more than 10 types of visa. Why not just 2 types visa that give parents permanent visa but not entitled medicare and centrelink/pension money. The other option is permanent parent visa with medicare and pension but cost more.

totally agree with you. i know how you feel, this my parent's situation too, but in NZ not AUS. It even worst here, it is a lottery style, and it is expired after 2 years and you have to resubmit again and repay the fee of $4000 again to continue. The parent visitor visa is a joke, 3 years parents visa, but 6 months in and 6 months out of new zealand for 3 years. can you keep up with the air ticket fee, if you live all the way in europe, when plane ticket is nealry $4000. Oh lala, it feels like a money making project.

i find it ridiculous that a skills visa can take 6 months but contributory parent visa take 15 years..there is something drastically wrong with your goverments processing system even if there is a big demand for this visa..it shows that the Austalian goverment do not really want parents to come settle in Australia

You must have missed the part of the video where he said "a parent migrant is estimated to cost about $400,000 to the Australian economy when you take into account centrelink (age pension), medicare and aged care". Why would any county import people who are just going to sponge off their social security services?

I don’t cost the GoA a dime. I bring money to breath the air use the roads and pay crazy rent for substandard. Houses. I have four minor dependent children in AU. Being minors, they can't sponsor me. I am a remaining relative - again, minors can't sponsor me. I am over 45, so no work visa (even if I could find an employee sponsor). But now., maybe I can win a lottery, and pay a huge visa fee, if I wait for 40 years, or fifteen years? My occupation is of a professional nature, I can maintain employment, and I'll be paying the 10% extra non-PR tax (about an extra $15kAUD annually). I am already supporting AU by providing for my children that live there. My children will be growing AU's population - which is desperately needed. ...but I have no path.

Canada is giving 10 year visitor visa to parents, with multiple entries. Parents and children need to live together, and governments should take actions to make sure that happens. 15 years is too long and means that the visa system is no longer working
@WorkVisaLawyers

Hi, Thanks for your comments. Yes, the current Australia Parent Visa system is bad and getting worse every day. The Canadian system sounds more sensible. Hopefully there can be some sensible reform for Australia. I do not support a lottery, as parent and relative wellbeing is too important to rely on some random lottery. All the best. Chris

How about allowing parents to live with their child/children AND their grandchildren at their own cost in Australia? If I pay for everything myself, this way I even SUPPORT the Australian economy, and what should stopp me then to live in A. permanently? At age over 70 I do not have all the time in the world to assist my child and see my grandchildren grow up! Any suggestion in how to get there? Thanks for any advice.

Must be Aust. Citizen and PR in order to sponsor legally their parent. They pay taxes legally. Why not the immigration do something for the sponsor to bring their parents in a more lesser years of processing the parent visa.
@soofi85
@soofi85 Год назад
So, in short, the Australian government prefers to deprive Australian families from their right of having healthy relationships with their families over finding new ways to cut down that ridiculous cost of 400K for each parent they grant PR !!! Does anyone else have the feeling that there is something wrong with their logic !!! In Islam, we believe that being good to our seniors is the way to get better income. If I was in need of financial help, I would buy a gift for my mother, and someway, I would get the help I needed. Of course I am not saying that the goverment should grant PRs without calculating the costs, but they need to address that number

@markbowers4241 I know about the reasons, but it is the government role to find solutions instead of taking the easy way of closing the door. I can't say about Australians, but for us not being able to bring our parents in is enough reason to head back home to take care of them. So, the government needs to find solutions to allow more people to bring their parents with less cost

first of all 5 years parents visa is good, if they miss home they can fly back, those who wants to stay can stay til the visa expired. The price could be lower, to help the sponsor child as they are paying health insurance and everything. Lottery is very disappointing, it is like you are waiting for the rain to come and you never know when it is going to rain, no good for the mental health for both the sponsor children and parents.

@WorkVisaLawyers 10 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching. At the moment the 482 to 186 PR requires 3 years with the same employer. If you start with a new employer you restart the clock. This gives the employer too much power and also relies on employers staying in business, when in some industries, such as hospitatlity, businesses fortunes change frequently. The current Labour government is proposing changes that might be this December 2023 or shortly after, to increase ability to change employer and still qualify for PR. The age limit for 190 is likely to stay at 45. I hope this is helpful. We do our best to bring all the latest updates and most relevant news for potential migrants. Hi, There is a planning allocation of 1900 for the 188 visa this year up until 30 June 2024. But, the 188 has two stages the first stage being state nomination. The states have not recieved any allocations so far, so no new 188 applications can proceed until the states get allocations. When the states get allocations, then I would say that is when the visa is 'open'. If you would like to check eligiblitiy, then try our website: businessvisacompare.com.au/ I hope this information is useful. Chris
