As one of the PRR Marketing team members, thanks for sharing our activities during the month, May certainly provided no shortage of volunteer engagement!
A great initiative, Will. Preservation railways are import across so many levels (tourism, heritage, community), so promoting what they have to enjoy can only be positive. So many modellers are also heavily influenced by yesterdays railway history, so all of these various preservation groups have a trickle on effect as being a source of information and inspiration for the modelling community. Definitely hope this series is well received and appreciated by the viewers.
Just letting all know - the Train of Lights is already sold out fully. I managed to get a ticket and look forward to experiencing it for sure. Also - great idea to feature regularly something like this. It was due to watching your videos that eventually got me back into doing all this. Eternally thankful to you Will.
An excellent opportunity for the various societies to get the word out. Not just for upcoming events but also projects that may be of interest to potential new volunteers. A brilliant idea Will.
Keep up the good work Will I grow up around some of the areas you cover brings back good memories. I'm now living on Vancouver Island BC Canada look forward to seeing more.
Great idea Will and as always very well presented. I will be looking forward to the next instalment. It's good to see you didn't forget about our island state. Cheers.
Yes, please continue this series. I already love your model railway episodes and this new rail preservation series will also be on my must watch list. Thank you. 🙂
I really appreciate this information. Sometimes it can be hard to know where things are and when they happen. Having this all available in an easy to access location will be amazing and will help increase awareness of these preserved railways. Thank you for doing this!
Amazing video as always Will ! This is a really good series idea, one other museum in SA is Milang train museum, in case you wanted to put in anything about it in the next up date :)
Thanks! I have them on the list but I don’t think there was any news to announce during May! If you are involved with them and want to submit anything please email me! willjamesrailwayssubmissions@gmail.com
@@WillJamesRailways That's ok, I made a trip down there when I was visiting family In SA, the 2 train simulators were really cool, if your are ever down that way, I highly recommend checking it out. Though certainly not big, I have a feeling they where looking for volunteers, but certainly they don't often have any events
Will, what a great initiative you have started here. If it is not too much work, then please continue. The news from the various groups is so interesting, and what they are doing. The upcoming tours are something well worth checking out. Thank you for sharing this, and even though it is not model railways, it does give us modellers much insperation for prototypical details. Cheers, and stay safe, Michael
This is a great idea, particularly good for we baby boomers in planning trips away, being able to include some destinations to visit events when they are on or just to know about places we'd otherwise not know of. Also great when you have absolutely devoted steam fan grandsons to be able to plan times away with them. I can't see how this won't be popular with people wanting you to advertise their upcoming event but also to the diverse age range in steam fans around the country wanting to know what's on, when and where. Fantastic idea and commitment - thank you so much.
Fantastic Will this a great feature. We should all say thank to you. It will become another feature for the month. You need to be congratulated for you wonderful Service. You asked for any suggestion as we watch on our TV I would like the words to be a larger font as some were rather small on our TV. Another suggestion it may be to hard but may be a calendar list of all the upcoming events.
BRILLIANT IDEA!!! Absolutely love this. Just by watching this video I have been exposed to SO many preservation railroads that I didn’t realise existed. One suggestion, as someone that is new to Australia, it would be really beneficial if the information was arranged by state/territory. I am not familiar with most of the locations that were mentioned so it leads to a lot of googling and back and forth. If I at least know a place being talked about is in let’s say, NSW, it makes it easier to follow. Wonderful work Will. I am so impressed as always with your videos!!!
Thanks for the feedback Andrew! They are in State Territory order however I’ll be aiming to improve the title cards so it’s a bit more helpful! Thank you again for watching and the feedback!
Awesome idea to showcase preservation railways etc. Personally, I'm so glad the Zig Zag railway is back up and running, Arranging a quick holiday and booking my tickets right now. My goal is to visit all the preservation railways in Australia. Even if they are not steam, which is my area of interest.
I used to do this on my website in the 90s. Did it for 20 years but it's a massive task don't underestimate it. Get ready for love from railways but also hate mail from people running events you didn't know about
Great idea, those of us in England etc can keep track of what is happening. Might be an idea to have the preservation news appear a week after your monthly model news as it then spreads out when you are trying to get out films.
Great idea Will, however you missed the Mornington Tourist Railway which operates a K Class steam locomotive every Sunday and Wednesdays during school holidays. We also have our recently restored to running Melville car. Cheers from the MTR.
Hey Peter! Thank you! I didn’t miss MTR! It was just them and a lot of others are on the list, there was no news/updates when i shot this! I will certify have Melville in the next episode! If you could, you can email any photos, video and information here: willjamesrailwayssubmissions@gmail.com Thanks again Will
I do believe this will be a great series and will be helpful for me a Victorian to get to know some south Australian heritage stuff for when I go every year!!!!!
I had no idea there were so many operating heritage railways around Australia. Yes please, if you can do this at least quarterly, if monthly is a bit time consuming given all your other activities.
I have a bit of content for the June 2023 one. DERMPAV is doing another tour on Saturday 26 August, this time taking the DERM all the way to Ballarat via North Geelong with a stop at the tramway museum and then heading back to Melbourne via Bacchus Marsh to Newport. It'll be a small tour due to the size of the DERM but I feel it could do with some press/coverage
Awesome series, just curious if there is any news on the YVR (yarra valley railway), the one that is looking to complete the historical rail link between Healsville and Yarra Glen
@@WillJamesRailways They still took membership dues (automatic ) but didn't reply to emails , it could have been really good .Thanks for the reply .Geoff .
For SRHC's upcoming tour to Portland this July, it says they are operated their two historic S Class Diesel locomotives, this gives us a clue that its most recent engine acquired, S307 is going on this tour! Also, Im looking to see how its restoration is going too!
Rail preservation is closest to my heart more than model railways, so I’m glad you’ve branched into covering this sector that no one else does and hope this can bring more coverage to our many groups out there!
(Re-posting this comment as the one I had previously published for some reason has just disappeared so apologies if this is a duplicate comment) I would love to see a section of this series covering the Atherton-Herberton Historic Railway. They are a group that was formed in 2008 with the goal of restoring the 22 kilometres of track between Atherton and Herberton in Far North Queensland and has been making quite a bit of progress since then! In 2015, they really got things going with restoration beginning on one of their steam locomotives, Peckett and Sons 0-4-0ST '1069' 'HRM No1' 'Donald R. Walker' and the year after they began work on a coach for it too. Around that time, they began running section car rides between Herberton and Herberton Historic Village, a distance of 2 kilometres, to fund their projects for the railway. However a milestone has been reached in 2023 this year with the operational launch of the Peckett Steam Locomotive, '1069', running with passengers doing the same 2 kilometre run the section cars did. It sounds short at the moment but it's getting there! They have lots of other projects going on too and even recently received a 2nd Queensland Rail 2000 Class to complete their pair intended for restoration and use doing the entire run between Atherton and Herberton! It's certainly an exciting time as it's giving Far North Queensland some much needed rail heritage attention and bringing a steam train to an area that sees barely any steam trains at all. The last one coming up here from memory was in 2015 on a Queensland Rail anniversary passenger train. I'm a volunteer for the railway so if you want to know more please let me know and I will let you know some public details. Or if you want, I can direct you to the website and emails for volunteers at the railway with much more knowledge than me as I am just a regular volunteer that does tour guides. Thanks!
@@WillJamesRailways Sure! I just sent one to your email in your about section and the description of this video, so it should've come through recently. Sorry if you wanted me to send you an email via the one in the end of the video, I wasn't really sure which one to send it to. So I hope sending it to your main email is alright with you. Thanks!
nice video will. thing is I am sad that the 520 class at steam ranger hasn't been finished and has been put off to the side for other future projects and focusing more on diesel locomotives than steam. 😁
As much as I love this idea, I feel like pushing for people to become members with their organisation/of choice would be more beneficial. That way they can financially contribute to them in order to stay updated as most send out newsletters and the like to members. Tay-lem ;)
I’ll consider that. I thought a signal boost to these organizations would be helpful but if this is the general consensus. I will stop making these videos. Thanks for the feedback.
