Welcome to Australian Reacts, where an Australian reacts to I Am Canadian Commercials!
Australian reacts is a series of checking out a whole range of international videos, based around history, peoples findings or even just random little facts. Some videos teach us more about a countries history and others open the door to something we never knew. Meanwhile any videos on Australia get measure up against real knowledge from a local of "the land down-under". Overall we get to see a glimpse of what this incredible world has to offer and have some laughs along the way!

Canada is the 2nd largest country, and has only 40M people. Russia, the largest, has way more people. What country has more land per person?

The people wearing shoes jumping into the water is because when you jump from a fairly high height you can hurt your feet. We used to jump from the top of a quarry into the water, everyone had water running shoes so they didn’t damage their feet. Everyone, thinks of water as soft but, the higher the jump the more pressure on the feet going into the water.

I agree with you 100%, that water can give your feet a good smack - but also might be zebra mussels too. Those things will slice your feet open pretty fast. I don't think they have zebra mussels in OZ ;-)

@@toddarmstrong.trackside.action I don’t think that there would be zebra muscles in a rock quarry because there is nowhere for it to come from and go to. A quarry is a big hole in the ground that gradually fills up with rain water. The height of that quarry is about 40 feet or more. A great place to jump into and swim. The y have a track built by the machine that originally carried the rock from the quarry. The one track down to the water’s edge is for those who don’t want to jump. The top of the quarry wall is what we jump off. Was great fun. Very few injuries happened.

Here in Windsor it easily gets above 30 C, with mad humidity from the Great Lakes. A couple weeks ago it was still below zero, today it's 18 C. Canadians can survive anywhere!

Actually it isn't illegal to show people consuming alcohol on TV commercials, you can check it under Canadian Advertising Standards.

Canada only held one summer olympics and it wasn't in 2008. It was in 1976. This ad came out for the 2010 winter games in Vancouver.

It’s a great thing to advertise in a saturated market. You don't need to “explain” your product. That's why beer ads are so creative. Our Canadian beer ads, the American “Clydesdale” ads, so much fun

I say they are wearing shoes running off the cliff because depending on the location depends on what the bottom of the watter is like. Some places are extremely rocky and have sharp rock that are absolutely not pleasant to step on. I'm sure there are other examples this is just the prime example I can think of. There are lots of beaches in my area they are all rocky not a single sandy beach around 😊

Reason for wearing shoes in water - zebra mussels. Those invasive little @ssholes will slice your feet to shreds. Plus the rocks themselves can be pretty sharp.

I suspect they were made for the 2010 Winter Olympics hosted by Vancouver. Thanks for showing these ads. Molson Canadian ads are great and make you sit up and notice. 👏👏🇨🇦

Loved this video! As a Canadian I always think of Australia as our brother from another mother, our sister from another mister. We have so much in common. We're both huge countries with massive awesome beauty. We're both commonwealth countries. We both have every climate from desert to rainforest. We both have non-natives expecting us to, well, have a pet kangaroo or live in an igloo. We both have American tourists coming and expecting to drive and see the whole country in 3 days. I live for the day that I can visit Australia. 🥰

And "good bloody luck to ya" if we visit during an Oz summer...? 😊Well, I lived for 4 years in the Okanagan Valley of BC and the summers were too much for me. July and August, 40°C every single day (104°F). I got heat exhaustion too many times and moved to ocean coastal BC.

The 500 miles commercial, is walking across the US-Canada border I mean in Canada you probably never get more than 100 miles from a beer store... if you have friends and a fridge. If all you have is a moose for a neighbour, and a pond... 250 miles. 🤣

The "Beer Store" is a real thing. In Ontario, alcohol is controlled by the government. You go to the "Beer Store" for most but not all your beer. You go to the LCBO for harder liquor and most wines. (LCBO = Liquor Control Board of Ontario)

Similar in Manitoba. Beer at the beer vendor, also, along with wine and hard liquor, at the Manitoba Liquor Mart. Both are controlled by the provincial government.

Well, while the government controls the legal side of alcohol, the Beer Store is actually a privately run operation controlled mostly by the major brewers--Molson, Labatt, and Sleeman--with a smaller percentage of the distributor owned by 30 or so Ontario brewers.

1) Molson sold out to Coors in the US a number of years ago.. Could have been an ad to target US audiences? 2) Yes, the "Beer Store" really is a store.. operates in Ontario and thats all they sell - all brands of beer.

Molson Canadian is a rather ordinary beer, but was blessed with a brilliant marketing team... unfortunately for Molson, they did more for national pride than for beer sales, great stuff, thanks for the nostalgia

The song by the Scottish band …The Proclaimers was so huge when it came out. Everyone was singing it. Also Canada has a huge ancestry of Scots people, being one of the largest groups of early settlers.

We wear shoes in the water when we know there are sharp stones under us! Some stones are certainly sharp enough to give a good slice!! Also, as the second biggest country in the world at a population of less than 39 million, we really do have more land per person available

The Canadian population is currently 39,792,896 per the StatsCan real-time population clock. As for population density, Greenland has the lowest, Mongolia is second, followed by Suriname, Iceland, Namibia, Australia, Mauritania, Guyana, Libya, and Botswana. Canada doesn't even make the top ten in this regard.

The shoes into the water is for climbing out again - the rocks are sharp. Young erosion of bedrock from the Canadian Shield. There are boulders that split and still have fresh corners.

@greg wochner zebra mussels are rare outside the great lakes. I've never encountered one in Lake of The Woods or The Whiteshell. Plenty of sharp rocks though. There's always been sharp rocks.

As a Canadian, Molson Canadian is my favourite beer "that every bar has". My favourite drink is an old fashioned. If I ask for an old fashioned and I get the response "An old fashioned what?", I order a pint of Canadian

The prairies are awesome by the way. Manitoba has over 100,000 lakes and Saskatchewan almost as many. Nothing is more spectacular than a sunset on the prairies. I grew up on a farm in the prairies next to a river, in a forest with our house on hill, it was beautiful. I explored country roads on horseback either following the river or just admiring the patchwork of colour in the fields next to those dirt roads. Blue flax, yellow canola, sunflowers, wheat, barley and oats. I agree the mountains and ocean are beautiful but there is a lot to be said for the prairies too!

I take exception to the commercial saying lakes are frozen 6 months of the year. They are not,... I don't care which province your in but you won't see lakes frozen enough to skate on until after the new year and then they are thawing again mid march. So more like 2.5 to 3 months of the year.

I like ice fishing. We can walk on the lakes just before Christmas. We drive on the ice in January. We cannot put the boat on the water until the ice goes out after the May long weekend. So.. about 5 months. The ice was 34 inches thick in February.

I know plenty of places in central-northern BC that have lakes frozen from October-March, and we're the warmest province. 🤷‍♀️ Northern AB, SK, & MB, ETC I'm sure have their own. Hudson Bay itself freezes over for a decent amount of time every year.

Lakes around here were freezing, if not frozen, in October and now it's April and they haven't thawed yet. I don't know where you are that lakes are only frozen 2-3 months a year

2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Our little town was electric for those two weeks! Land ratio to each citizen is that high. Population of Canadians and the land of second largest country gives us that land ratio. Of course, the land isn’t necessarily places people want to live.

The scene where the guy sees no beer in the fridge and walks out, he walks out to into a back alley in downtown Vancouver. If you pay attention you will notice that alley in many TV and movie productions.

Hey you asked about why Canadians wear shoes some of the shale rock is very very sharp under the water so a lot of us wear old running shoes or water shoes

Swimming in a lake can mean walking on a lake bottom that has sharp rocks and stuff. Wearing something on your feet is for safety.

The second largest country in the world but has about the same or slightly lower population than California, about 80% of the population is about 100km from the US border because a lot of Canada is just not able to build in most of the country, because of it's forests, hard minerals, mountains and lakes, the Canadian Shield prevents a lot of expansion

Its not wrong bruh. Our country only has a population of 38 million people but we're the second largest country on the planet after Russia. And Russia has 143 million people, so its facts. We have the most square feet of land per person than any other country, although to be fair around 70% of that land is uninhabitable for human civilization.

I can't speak for everyone but I have 'watershoes' and in Canada there are so many rock and different things you can step in - that wasn't a great example either but there are some real heights you can come off of, into the water as well and that can make your feet sore

Definately TRUE that Canada has the most square feet per person. We are the second largest country in the world. Our population is 37 million. Compare that to say, the US, a bit smaller country, yet a population of 140 million. I believe Australia's population is almost 26 million and 6th largest country.

They may be correct that there's more square feet per person, however a vast chunk of that is including the permafrost regions that most don't want to settle in. An Australian can appreciate long road trips, but I've driven for almost a week at 8-10 hour days across this country. It's pretty frickin vast.

The land per person comment at the time was true. Our population is exploding right now, but at the time was like 32 million with the 2nd most land only behind russia who has way more people.

Actually Canada does have more square footage per person. Canada is the 2nd largest land mass, and way less people than the 1st. It said February, it's our winter Olympics And not sure who is giving you information on the prairies to "not here very good things" about it. Sighs.. it's an American that prefers Canadian beer over their own US one.

I guess the claim is "More square feet of awesomeness than any other person on earth". In my head, I assume it's talking about population density. But if that's the case, Canada is NOT the least densily populated country. In fact, Australia is less dense, even. One could argue that "awesomeness" is not just about density, but features...and maybe they have a claim?

You might be surprised to hear we get plenty warm up here. 30 degrees in spring the last few yrs and 40 degrees in summer. As for sqkm per person i think they are talking the averaging of square kilometers divided by population. Canada has aprox 38 million residents within 9,984,670 sq km whilst Australia has an aprox population of 26,344,241 within 7,741, 220 sq km

You got it wrong, it's square foot of awesomeness per person... Australia does have the most square foot per person, but a huge wasteland for the most part. But that was the 2010 winter, we didn't have the 2008 here in Canada.

The ad with the Proclaimers song is one of my Pet Peeves. Advertising a Canadian brand with foreign music. Sadly this is quite common for any shows, movies, commercials made in Canada, most of them use foreign music instead of supporting Canadian musical artists.

Ah, but the Proclaimers (and that song in particular) are still very popular in Canada. We also have a lot of borrowed Scottish cultural elements, like bagpipes and kilts for military and some funerals, a lot of our east coast accents are quite similar to Scottish... hell, we have a province called "Nova Scotia" Literally "New Scotland".

scots and irish make up the greater part of canadian culture, you'll find tons of mc ferson's of mac phersons, macgeargors, fin's, etc, although we are thining out though................
