I'm half Austrian and this movie is about my ancestors. They overdo it with the bishops here. Too many of them. And when I married, they wanted me to do this very entrance to the altar but I refused. I'm not following my husband down the aisle. If he wanted me, he had to wait for me. In the end, I had this entrance with exactly the same music and my mother and mother-in-law by my side but my husband had to wait for me at the altar. It was the 20th century and not the 19th. Emperor, king or not, if he wanted me, he had to show endeavours. I'm not sure if I lived in Sisi's time, maybe I would have complied. But I live now.
Brazil' first empress was an Austrian archduchess who married in Wien before coming to Brazil. She became probably the most influential and important woman in Brazilian history, even our national colors were chosen by her.The yellow on the Brazilian flag is Austrian,it is the house of Habsburg yellow, and an homage to our Austrian empress! Thank you Austria!
Maria Melo wow I never realized that Brazil was an empire, too. Very interesting. Who were the emperors, of what house were they? Very curious. I just love the history of the Roman Catholic Church. I can't help it. I love my religion. The One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic Church. The only true Religion. Deo gratias! Pax tecum
@@lucillebonds4332 Brazil's first empress was Maria Leopoldina of Austria who was married to D.Pedro IV of Portugal. By the time D. Pedro IV declared Brazil independent from Portugal it became the Empire of Brazil and he ruled as his first emperor.
I would highly recommend Vienna to any other European capital. People rave about Paris, but it is dirty, it literally stinks and the people are the rudest I have ever met. Vienna is clean, historic, and easy to traverse. As an American, I say Vienna and Berlin are my two favorite cities I have ever been.
She was an actress, very pretty but the real princess, Elizabeth was even more beautiful! Hungarians loved her, and she learned to speak this difficult language!
Well, in a movie, yeah. Lol. This is the final scene of the first Sissi movie starring Romy Schneider and Karl-Heinz Böhm. The highly dramatized story of Empress Elizabeth, made in 1955. One of the most popular German films, ever. Still shown today at Christmas time in Germany, Austria and Hungary.
Does anyone know the title of the organ Praeludium that is played just before the Messaiah's Hallelujah by Handel is sang (i.e. while the royal couple still marches along the nave towards the altar)?
@@lucillebonds4332 Yes within the Empire of Austria or later Austro-Hungarian Empire there were Kingdoms, such as the Kingdom of Bohemia or the Kingdom of Croatia and Slavonia
Oh how I love fairytales. This movie made me laugh, cry, happy and filled my heart with joy. I wonder what it would of been like to live in a era of this world - different but beautiful with monarchies ruling politics that govern the european people.
I paramenti liturgici sono sbagliati, a meno che non spunti improvvisamente un capitolo solo sulla liturgia dei matrimoni reali; l'Alleluia di Handel è accettata dai cattolici?
I'm Austrian and this is how the girls are married off in my family, whether they want it or not. Some old rhytes are still there although aristocracy has been abolished. It's all politics. Franz Josef certainly fell in love with her and with time, he loved her but she didn't love him. It was his will to marry her and she had to comply and be grateful that the Emperor of Austria loved her. She had no choice. I know this movie in and out and still watch it, but reality was different.
Sissi, it is a trilogy,: Sissi, Sissi the young Empress, and Sissi, the fateful years of an empress. The wedding shown is the finale of the the first movie
@@londiniumcross5122 Tell that to the thousands of saints whose faith was nourished by "looking at the priests' back" during Mass. This is an oft-used argument against the Tridentine Mass, and quite frankly a weak if not absurd one. The priest isn't facing his back towards you - he's directing his prayer towards God who is present in the tabernacle upon the altar. The Novus Ordo on the other hand, is the opposite.
@@tridentinerestoration1348 If he stands with his back to God and faces the people, he can make the connection between the people and God much better. God is everywhere and he doesn't mind where a priest stands.
Why was Sissi assassinated??? Her life was so tragic...The Crown Prince's Murder/Suicide, Franz Josef unfaithful (which is shocking) the marriage ending up being unhappy, the death of her first born Sophie. The *Theft* of her first born Sophie by her Mother-in-law. All of her pain and sacrifice, only to be murdered and for what?!
Not sure why the choir is singing the Halleluia chorus from Handel's Messiah in English which is the last thing that they would have sung at a Hapsburg Imperial wedding, since Handel was a Protestant.
Gallery Guide: It’s a Hollywood movie, that’s why. Lots of movies don’t always tell the truth in the stories they tell. You don’t have to apologize, either. I was just typing the correct spelling of the family name. I’m not even sure if any Habsburg’s are still around, except for maybe Karl and Zita,’s grandchildren.
@@elizabethpease947 Yes I realize that its a film an not a documentary, however, does seem to be a very odd musical choice for the film makers. Even if they don't know what was actually performed at the Imperial wedding ceremony the could have chosen something from one of the composers to the Imperial court rather than something that was written a composer to the English court in a foreign language. No one at the time would have permitted music written both by and for Protestants at an official Catholic Imperial wedding.
Not to mention that no groom lead a bridal procession and until very recently no woman would have accompanied a bride to the altar. If their was no suitable male family member or court official she would have walked alone. It also seems unlikely that there were that many cardinals, bishops or abbots in the entire empire let alone at court.
This is from a movie....totally manufactured. And you don't sing the Hallelugah Chorus in a wedding, especially since it was written for an English audience....
"Messiah" was translated to German at the request of C.P.E. Bach and the musical score reworked by Mozart long before the date of this wedding. The Mozart version could have been used . Learn before commenting on classical music.
Not to mention that Handel had no connection with the Imperial court and was a Protestant on top of that. The fact that it is sung in German is also a problem since the Catholic church until very recently all official rites of the church could only be conducted in Latin.
Kay jay you will forever exist when your soul separates from your body so better clean up your act now or be sorry later because you will never disintegrate.
The glory that was Europe is captured in this Imperial wedding. The husband and wife are presented before God, here the future Emperor and his wife are aware that the source of this magnificent wedding is God, the true king. Now thanks to "modernization" and "democracy" Europe is now scrambling who should first legalize homosexual wedding. From Imperial honor and glory of old Europe to the decadent "tolerant" weddings of today. How far we have fallen.
Very far why why allow such an atrocity against nature to allow those people to marry only a man and a women should be allowed to marry because homosexuals cannot produce kids making actual couples the only natural and righteous couple the end
Roberto Jr Antonio You do realise this scene is from a movie, right? "Europe is now scrambling who should first legalize homosexual wedding." That ship sailed 14 years ago.
Roel den Oudsten Yes, which is based on the actual historical wedding of their imperial highnesses. You can view the black and white video showing the parade of nobilities, grandees and common folk going to the church. Search for "Wedding Emperor Charles I of Austria & Zita Hochzeit Kaiser Charles I von Österreich und Zita." Yup, that ship sailed 14 years ago and never returned. That ship was full of homosexuals, tragic =(
You dumbass bigots are going the way of the dinosaurs, just like all those vampiric families you still worship. Your god is not even dead. He never fucking existed in the first place.
