I read this book in 6 hours and am obsessed with it. It was recommended to me after leaving a year long "relationship" with a femme who hits every marker for NPD and ASPD. and who was so psychologically abusive, manipulative and all the things. She was also a writer. Also has an MFA, masters in poetry etc. The way CMM created this house framework and made the "house" into so many different things was mind blowing. This book saved me. For real. Thanks, Carmen Maria Machado.

To see her in person after reading her book brought me to so many different types of tears. Thank you is all I can say. I'm so glad you made it out of the house

Her book was really brilliant. I loved how she wrote this book and was very engaged listening to her read this book. A must read.

There are some passages in the book that come across as really honest, creating that connection with readers like me, who also have a shameful history of idealising cold or impulsive women, degrading themselves for being queer.. feels so good to open up a conversation about that. It has so much to do with self love - and it's hard to love yourself when you feel so far from fulfilling societies and even queer societies expectations. When you feel too fat, ugly, sensitive, shy, inexperienced or whatever to be out and proud.
