I live in Australia so we don't see many of these but when I was driving my truck years ago (well as American's call them 18 wheels) the police called for some trucks that were ahead of this car to fill the lanes so myself and six other trucks drove side by side and we slowed the driver down to a stop and the police blocked him in from behind. It turned out to be a 15yr old kid. He told the police when he come up to the trucks he wasn't going to take them on so he stopped. The kid is now out of jail and is a truck driver. He loves his job and helps the police as much as he can. The police still to this day ask for help from the truck drivers.
I live in California here , where this took place, and I've never ever seen one car chase . Remember, USA is 340 Million people , while GIANT Australia is a few people and Kangaroos . The News highlights any issues that rise-up within the 340 million .
Awesome you do that in Australia, but we have too many corrupt lawyers that love to help corrupt minded people in this country get out of trouble and file lawsuits against the police for so called wrong doing. So being a criminal in the USA is apparently worshiped now unfortunately.

I think that it was AHP that let some criminal hit him head-on to stop a pursuit from going into a more populated area, I think that it was a large school zone!
Arkansas State Troopers are the Marines of law enforcement, by which I mean they will do what-the-eff-ever it takes to get their man! I saw one where they chased the guy through three or four counties and into Oklahoma to get one guy!
yea I can remember my grandpa telling me a story bout back in the day the didnt take you in. They took you in the back alley and whooped you. Gramps said it worked like a charm on him

With the price of gas as high as it is in LA, I’m not surprised if we see a reduction in high speed chases this summer or who knows maybe for years, or atleast the cops will be catching them sooner than later, the criminals sure as hell wont be topping up the tanks in their most-likely stolen vehicles.
but what is the point of all this? He is probably already out on bail and most likely see little to NO jail time. It's CA and they don't put people in jail.
Situations like this are what prompts people to wish the government (local, state or fed) would just bring the chopper down in front of the guy, have the door gunner wave at the driver just before they put some rounds through the engine block.

Because the police/sheriffs/CHP, don't base their job and what they are required to do on whether or not the DA will prosecute. They are law enforcement (you know - enforce the law).

Most cops chase don't have heli. So its easier to lose them. When they send the heli, it is harder to lose the cop. But not impossible if you can go under a bridge or tunnel.
Especially when the police have so much power, far beyond anyone. With enough support and effort, they can put the whole world on this guys bumper. They have time, control, and resources to end this guy anytime they want. I know it is difficult with so many people, but the police uphold the law, and this guys fun will come to an inevitable end.
If I was a hostage and the guy's gun is lying there, I think I may toss it out the window while the guy has his hands out his window. I wouldn't want the guy to have any seconds thoughts. And I certainly wouldn't keep it. The cops would open fire if they saw a gun in my hand.

Isn't car jacking against the law. Same as not registering a gun or buying stolen guns. Can some one please read the laws to the criminals because they obviously are not informed. Hey, how about passing a law making it illegal to not read the laws. And make a Red Flag Law if you suspect some one did not read the laws. Yeah, that will fix it.

If you run from the police it should be mandatory 10 years in a Turkish prison. We’ll see those chases decrease real fast. Punishment must be greater than the crime as a deterrent
