Welcome to the 10th episode of Authors Chat and more with Nick Finney, Author of - THE BUMPS AHEAD - The Tale of a Five Year Pregnancy.
I had recently interviewed another author, @Gaynor Cherieann, author of 'An Adoptee's Journey', My Life in Letters, and wanted to interview Nick on the reverse, adopting a child, from a male perspective.
Nick's raw honesty in the writing of his story and telling us what it was like, is a topic of great importance as adoption and its process needs to be carefully and thoroughly vetted to find the right parents for vulnerable children.
Having read the book, I was in awe at what Nick and his wife had to go
through firstly to give birth naturally and then to decide to adopt a child.
Throughout the whole process Nick's journey of determination and desire to adopt a child, to become a parent, to become a Dad, shone through with humour, courage, and self discovery of what it would mean to become a parent.
His straightforward and conversational style drew me in as a reader and opened my eyes to what it takes for adopting parents, in the caring of a little human being, who has already been through huge emotional change.
There are moments of great humour, sitting in pubs, in cafes, eating numerous baguettes while waiting for appointments with the Adoption Agency and describes what it was like when he first saw a picture of his son.
It's a heart warming story, of great love and a great need to be a parent and a story which I feel not just adoptive parents but parents who have their children naturally must read, in order to understand more deeply what it means to care for and embrace ones child/children and the responsibility placed on us in parenting our children.
