I've been homeless more than once as an autistic adult. It's a weird thing not to know the answer to "how can you be so intelligent and end up homeless?" without a clue as to a diagnosis as an adult

I was homeless all last year, stayed on the streets under a tarp at times just because it was socially easier.. i have support right now but I'm still figuring it out. I hope everything has been well since you wrote this last year

T H A N K S for this video - I’m about to move in with my younger autistic sibling (he still lives with family but is ready to try out living independently) and am trying to figure out how to make it a smoother transition for him than it was for me 🤣✌🏻

Hi. How is that going? I'm 28 and autistic and live with family and want to try to progress from where i'm at in life... was recently diagnosed. Curious to know how the move has gone for your brother. Thanks

I'm 16 now, turning 17 later on this year. This summer (if all goes to plan) I'll be moving into a sort of flat where I'll get a coordinator to help me with different activities of daily living, such as how to clean, cook, set up doctors appointments, get up for school, managing money etc. It's pretty much the same thing (inspired by) Aberdeen Foyer in Scotland, where they help you become more independent, to give you a better chance at dealing well with moving fully on your own. I struggle a lot with anxiety at nighttime if I'm not in a place or situation I'm familiar and comfortable with, so the CPS is going to make sure I have someone I can always contact if something were to happen or if I just want a chat when nobody's around, because there are staff in the building, but only during the daytime. I'm really excited, but also scared lol. I think it's all gonna be fine though!

If you are having employment issues, you should look for public housing which should be priced at one-third of your income. And if there is no availability of it in your area, which is a common problem, then you should move to someplace that has it. When I first got on disability, I was looking at a 2 year wait list just to get a subsidized room, probably in a hotel. I would have been homeless for that 2 years. So I moved to a rural area in a different state, and was able to rent a nice apartment in a public housing project almost immediately. I have been happily living independently ever since. 👍
