I love your channel and explanations! It is one of the real deficiencies of our science (ABA) that in the attempt to clarify and distinguish the elements of behavior, we often make things clear as mud. Thank YOU for you clarity! In summary, English kinda sucks

Thank you for the value. Id there a book that has the related vocabulary to ABS autism if not it would be great if you write one since you know how to clear complex statements to easier ones. I really enjoy your work. I think if we understand the goals we could do better for children with autism.

Could you explain why kids hurt themselves(bit or hit themselves)? what do they get out of it or what is their aim. Thank you much. Looking forward to hearing from you if possible.

A Functional Behavior Assessment would be needed to answer this which would include taking some Antecedent-Behavior-Consequence data on the individual since each individual engages in different behaviors for different reasons. A Functional Analysis may also need to be conducted. Some reasons could be conditioning of the child's behavior to result in attention from adults, escape from non-preferred activities and/or aversive environments, access to preferred items, or for instance if its head banging then it could be to alleviate a headache or sinus infection the best they know how. Lots of possibilities. They are communicating something the way they have learned how to communicate it over time... I bang my head, I get attention or get to leave or get my favorite toy or get this pain to go away.
