I was wondering myself why the aim and timing was off the rails then you said you were using a recurve 😅 The compound worked because it’s meant to be accurate and consistent. The archer’s paradox is basically non-existant compared to a recurve bow , it’s constantly drawing the same force, same speed . Compound bows are marvelous pieces of tech .

You need to use Feather arrows if you use the arrow rest on the recurve. If you want to use the vinyl feather you need to install a rest for those arrows. That's what causes the arrows to go up and to the left. Learned that in my College archery class. Lots of fun. Great Vid BTW.

As an archer myself, I will tell you that you will get more accuracy out of that compound bow with a drop away rest than the force inducing whisker biscuit. Try that first. In addition, even with a compound bow you cannot get away from the archer's paradox. Spine to tip weight to bow draw weight absolutely matters. This is incredible! The only limitation is imagery navigation outside of your room but that can be fixed with some UAVs! Congrats on becoming a real life Hawkeye!

He could probably adapt it to be stand alone with a few encoders for bow location and a stereo or quad camera for target tracking. I imagine his biggest reason and a very good one at that for going with the camera marker tracking system is that he has used it extensively before so he won't have to learn a bunch of new stuff and it's cheaper to use stuff you already have.

Just add a couple of high resolution cameras, paired with accelerometers, gyroscopes, an image recognition program, and a VR eyepiece (so you know what it is aiming at). Such a weapon would be extremely difficult to program but once the bugs are worked out it would be the ultimate medium range daytime weapon.

Engineering is about the mindset, not just the things you learn is school. If you have the mindset and drive, you can learn the math and stuff. But if you don’t have the mindset it’s a struggle. Well, it’s a struggle either way but you get something out of it.

Anti-aircraft artillery (guessing you're American because we're the only ones that call it that lol) is impressive, sure, but have you heard of "hit-to-kill" interception? A couple excerpts from the Patriot missile wiki page: "The PAC-3 radar is capable, among other things, of discriminating whether or not an aircraft is manned and which of multiple reentering ballistic objects are carrying ordnance." "The active radar also gives the warhead a "hit-to-kill" (kinetic kill vehicle) capability that completely eliminates the need for a traditional proximity-fused warhead."

@@nova5303 Speaking of the Patriot... in early versions, there was a clock issue if the system wasn't periodically restarted. When Iraq launched a SCUD in the instance of one system that had been on for 100 hours, 28 soldiers were killed because the system ended up having enough of a timestamp mismatch that the system looked in the wrong part of the sky and failed to launch a missile due to not finding a target.

I'd like to think of this a different way. Most engineers could have done it at the pace he did, but would that necessarily meant it would have been the same quality? Good chance not, but I'm just an SWE with no real fundamentals on the mechanical parts of the project. Seriously impressive job though!

Dude, im pretty sure one could learn archery in the time of watching this video just to get a feel of what NOT to do, and then spending another 17:36 practicing a little. Ngl his stance and posture made me cringe so hard, no wonder he punched himself so many times. Like even the way he holds the bow is so wrong. Compare his stand to his wife, his arm is just so out there, his feet are all wrong.

Ive mostly shot selfmade wooden bows so im pretty good with those. Used a compound bow twice aswell and it was definetly harder. Having a light wooden bow with traditional hunting arrows is just so damn cool
