Watch the Part 1 episode of the complete build of the 1/12 Ford GT40 Mk.II as raced in the 1966 Lemans race - featured in the 2019 Ford vs Ferrari movie. This large scale Trumpeter model is much inferior to Meng's version in terms of accuracy but there is some good things about the model. In the coming videos I will try to use my modelling skill to enhance this kit so that it could compete with the Meng's. And I will also make this model in its 'battle damaged' weathered look that is similar to what we always see in the photos and in the movie.

I just started with this Trumpeter kit. Despite that it is missing some basic items as you pointed out, it is actually very nice to build it. Love your attention to detail.

Yes it is not bad for the price when compared to Meng’s. Be careful with the decal applications as they are extremely fragile. And thank you for your compliment!

Phenomenal job 👍! I just ordered one of these and waiting to get it. You obviously don’t have to take my advice by any means but being a road racer and being under my cars a lot you will have many spots on the chassis that have made contact with the ground. Either from sharp crests in the road or going over coping. Those spots will ground through the paint exposing some of the bare chassis, in this case aluminum. Just a thought.

thanks! and thanks for your suggestion! I can try adding that to the bottom next round. BTW, if you happen to order the Trumpeter version, you will need a lot of patience to modify it as the kit not entirely accurate. That happens to a lot of their tank models too. But in the price, it is still quite attractive if you just want to build and display it.

Quick question! The transparent blue for the fittings, is it acrylic? Or? I made the mistake of buying Tamiya clear red/blue lacquer, and over the chrome pens, it blends/melts the chrome. Thank you! One day I’ll build this kit 👍

Yes they are all acrylic clear from Tamiya , works well on chrome paint

I'm waiting for some "Finishers" paint to finish mine. gold engine block? I just ordered the Meng; appears more detailed. comes with dist. & spark plug wires
@henschelporsche1
@henschelporsche1 Год назад
I used titanium for part of engine block so not entirely gold. For sure Meng is much superior to Trumpeter in terms of accuracy and extent of details. Trumpeter does comes with wires and cables but not the distributor with spark plugs so I had to scratch built them. But with 1/3 of the price of Meng, I think I can live with that. More complaints on the fitting of the cowls and doors as after applied the clear coat they won’t fit properly.

Thanks for your viewing! Yes it will be out soon as I am having difficulties on the decals (too brittle and not sticking well). The Part 2 will include the interior build and should be out later this month. Sorry for the wait 😅

I have the MENG kit....may I ask what color ratio did you use for the Ford Powder Blue body color?
@henschelporsche1
@henschelporsche1 Год назад
Sorry I did not write it down during the mixing. I used a large bottle to test mix the right colour gradually until I found my wanted colour. I used Mr Hobby 1 + 323. I recalled something like 5% blue was used, most are white. You have to make a trial. I suggest you mixed more than enough for the model as you can never get the same mix the second time. Hope that helps.

My own goal for my build is similar to yours. You've shown some weathering techniques and products I wasn't aware of. I've been away from the hobby for many, many years, so I'm looking forward to getting back into it.

The blue is not Gulf Blue. It is 1966 Arcadian Blue, a FOMOCO factory color. Hope this helps.

Hi, I just subbed your channel. I have some questions about the scratch built distributor that you fabricated for this kit. What size round stock did you use for the base of the distributor? What size aluminum tubing did you use? What size wire did you use? What size shrink tubing did you use for the boots? Thank you .
@henschelporsche1
@henschelporsche1 Год назад
Thanks for your viewing and subscription! The base not from a round stock, just pick up from my scrap collection - you can just pick up any scrap pieces to fit the tubings. I can tell you the aluminum tubing was 1.5mm or 0.06" dia. The wires were 0.5mm or 0.02" dia. ( bought from ebay in orange color) The shrink tubing was 3/64" by Miniatronics which I got it from a local hobby store. Hope that helps!

Hi, Your info was very helpful. I would like to ask one more question. For the ignition coil, What size plastic round stock did you use? Thanks in advance.
@henschelporsche1
@henschelporsche1 Год назад
@@rickzinck9326 I think you were talking about the spark coil that was made with shrink tubing (at 6:31 on the video count). It would be the same shrunk tubing used to connect to the distributor. You can see those cut shrink tubing on the table. Hope that helps.
