Hey I live in California and I just turned 16 and I can't find a rifle that is AR rifle price that could actually be used for home defense when i turn 18. What gun would you get if you lived in California
Reece Aleck thanks for watching so, first of you we are by no means experts on California gun laws. The state's website has a list of what is and isn't allowed. There are a few AR-15 styles that are avaible but we are assuming that you don't wanna pay those prices. So, when it all boils down any firearm will do regardless of what the " experts" say the thing to remember is this. What are you protecting? Can you use this weapon effectively and can I afford it. Because even if you got something cheap as long as you practice and can shoot it it's gonna do the same thing as an AR. Since you not old enough for a handgun we would recommend a shotgun or any semi auto rifle or carbine rifle regardless of the magazine capacity although 4rds or more is Ideal. Hope this was helpful!
I also live in cali .. laws are evolving and confusing every year , I actuall went with a riot style 12 ga slide action( pump) shotgun . Great for staying out of hot water as cali government attacks are 2nd . If I defend myself . Cali sucks . pump guns are always nice for the price and flexibility .
I learned about the jamming issue from personal experience. Mine was a jam-o-matic until I picked up some snap caps and ran about 3,000 cycles through it. But even now, I can't run the Aguila ammo at all. Hornady Critical Defense, Privi Partisan... heck, even Tula. But not Aguila.
The actual WWII surplus carbines from the CMP are very, very reliable. HOWEVER, I won't shoot Aquila in mine, as it is low powered and won't consistently drive the bolt back to load the next round. Mine has never malfunctioned with Privi Partison, Winchester, Remington or S&B ammo.

Yoko Kurama it depends on ammo and how it is oiled I would say you have a 20%chance of it jamming with this rifle others may shoot perfect and others not so much but it’s really a hit or miss with these rifles.
Yoko Kurama The carbine in the video was NEW. It needs at least 300 rounds through it to break it in. The more rounds through it the better. The mag is new and any jamming or failure to feeds are because of the mag. If you buy a carbine mags need maintenance just like the carbine. There are plenty of videos on mag maintenance to ensure they run. Spring, mag interior, and followers need to be checked. Mag interiors and followers need to be checked and adjusted for snug fit and smooth function. Spring tension needs to be strong and springs and followers need to be installed correctly, not backwards. Mag feed lips should be adjusted if need be. If jamming or FTFs continue after running different mags then the operating rod spring or charging handle spring should be checked for proper function. The auto ORd M1 carbines are very cheaply made and I have had nothing but problems with mine. I have never been able to shoot more then one or two rounds without having a FTF or FT fire. I recommend looking for an older M1 from a gunshow. Stay away from any new production carbines unless you want to be disappointed.
Like I said man try to find an older made M1 carbine. They are really cool and tough little battle rifles. Try gun broker or a gun show type deal. Prices on nice older ones are going up though I have noticed.
