Love these types of stories. My cousin, and several other people, call me when they have a auto problem and I save them $. My cousin's alternator failed and a shop quoted her $1,000 for repair. I removed the alternator took it to parts store and discovered it was under warranty. Got the replacement and she was good 👍🏿

All kidding aside, Cory seems like a really nice person with a great sense of humor. It's a shame that shops try to take advantage of anyone especially genuinely nice people.

If you're replacing your spark plugs, never use a power tool to remove or install them. When installing them, you should be able to hand tighten them (any difficulty means you're most likely crossing the threads and need to try again) and then finish tightening it down with the ratchet.

I love stories like this. With a $30 scan tool and 5 minutes on the internet and you can more likely than not figure out 90% of the problems with your vehicle. Glad to see you showing people how to fix things themselves and teaching them the steps too!

I just replaced the EVAP canisters under my 2011 Crown Vic also. One thing I've learned is that if you're not familiar with these systems that some of these repair shops will take you for whatever they can because they know. I absolutely love the Crown Vic and I welcome any more content with it

I used to work for a large government fleet and your mom's car looks mighty familiar, because the fleet had several thousand of these Crown Victorias. And that fender-mounted spotlight means only one thing, this car is a Bluesmobile i.e. ex-police car... and these cars often went to auction. And these are the very last cars I would ever buy for myself. Not just because it's a Ford but because it used to be a police car and was severely abused during its service life, you can count on that. You see the odometer right? Or if you could. Now just take that reading you see on the odometer. Now double it, and that is the equivalent in wear and tear the car actually has.

I paid to watch this video when it was first uploaded to that video sharing site and Sam asked if I would be mad if later it would go up free on YT and I said no. There are probably some cuts in the YT version to keep it clean so I got the editor's cut version :) I'd love to know how Sam got in touch with her but these were awesome collabs :)

This is the sole reason I left working for independent shops and dealerships to open my own automotive repair shop. I couldn’t stand customers being ripped off and all the lies. Most, not all places I’ve worked at though. Tons of reviews with a 5 star shop that I’m running.

I love to see people teaching people how to basic car repairs. Very empowering, plus then you don't get ripped off by shops. Even if you have an honest competent mechanic you can still save time and money by not paying the mark up in labor or parts. Right on Sam.

I didn't recognize your Stepmom at first, normally I've only seen her when there's been some kind of a fluid accident and she ends up with coolant goo all over her face or she's getting her rear end worked over by some unscrupulous auto mechanics! I work in a repair shop and I work with 2 mechanics who can't diagnose check engine lights. Yet they still do by guessing the problem and usually end up wrong. Then I have to recheck their mistake when the customer comes back for the same problem.

Something else you could have mentioned is that once you replace the new belt, always pack up the old one and store it in the trunk. Sure it's old but it's always beat to have that extra one in the trunk in case you break a belt and can't drive it home. I always keep a spare belt in all my cars and trucks.

Repair shop in Germany tried to rip my sister 3000$ for 30 min job. Invoice claimed 28 hours of labour at 80 dollars per hour and 1200 for a new starter(160 dollars at the local toyota dealership). They even had the audacity to ask 150 for diagnozing the problem although they knew from the begining it is a failing starter motor. They had never even opened the bonnet. I have never been so rude in my life as I was with these guys. Btw it's illegal to do roadside repairs in Germany, which I did anyway :)

And, having owned a repair shop for several years, and ALWAYS treating our customers FAIRLY, it really pisses me off when people came to us from other shops who had ripped them off. Bring back Auto Shop to high schools!!!
