I had purchased a few of the new Super III cars released last year and was very happy with them. Then I recently picked up three of the deluxe pit kits, thinking this would be a great deal and ultimately have fun customizing and racing them with my two grandkids. I had all sorts of problems, lost springs, etc. So now I've got nothing to show for them but the three bodies and spare parts. I've been thinking of just buying three pre-built chassis just so they can be useable, but who knows...
I bought one of theses and it was slow, sounded and felt like it was not meshing right. I looked at one I bought already together and noticed the motor magnets were hanging up and would not sit flush enough with the bottom of the chassis. I pulled it apart like 10x no luck making it better. I had to buy a new set from JAG hobbies for like $2 a pair, fits a lot better on the 1st try and now it runs pretty good now for what it is. I bought 2 pairs, since I have 2 deluxe pit kits and I thought better safe then sorry. I am not slot car expert. But I am very happy with it. At least It now runs like the black and gold one I bought already together.
Complained about those cars when they first came out in 2012 or so. Looks like 10 years later and there still are problems. I would love to see AW come out with some really nice cars, it would be great for the hobby:). They have some really nice bodies already 😊
I can only comment on the one I built, it did not run well without a lot of tweaking but others have said the have newer Super III that run fine, it is hit and miss as usual with AW.
I've built 4 of the pit kits. All the cars run fine. The biggest issue is the rear wheels are wobbly. Swapping in a turbo rear axle assembly smooths the car out nicely. They aren't a viper/bsrt/SG+, but they are only $13.
Yeah after tweaking the pickup shoes I got the car to run decent. It's still a shame AW can't make them run better out of the box. The few AW I have all required a lot of tweaking to make them run well. Yes, I know and was not expecting Viper/Wizzard quality but they should at least run out of the package.
I just bought one of these yesterday and threw it together and it seems to run pretty good. It does seem to slide around the track a lot like an Xtraction. Also runs the opposite direction so I need to fix that.
Yeah mine ran ok as well after a lot of tweaking. As for going backwards you can try turning the rear end around, or you may have the motor magnets in backwards. Good luck!
I have several Super III's. Older chassis need work adjusting the brushes screws. The new chassis are good. They changed the crown gear and I have no problem with them.
Yes there are many, Jag hobbies chassis, Bulldog, and even a Viper with the AFX body clip, older AFX Magnatracion chassis will work. Auto World pretty much copied the AFX chassis and most of their bodies will fit on a AFX chassis
did you figure out where the 2 little black plastic peace's go yet? don't throw them away. I had to email auto world because its not listed on the instructions they go over the brush tubes then the loose fitting now tight fitting wire clip goes over them.
I did actually, they are pickup show savers, the go on top of the brush barrel and help the top of the pickup shoe keep good contact with the top of the barrel. The are held in by the front metal clip that holds the from armature bushing in.
Thank you for doing this. Its everything I thought it would be. And then you need to stock those parts. And then you have to like the bodies. Me thinks El Paso. But Thanks for running the traps on this. This is epic!
Yeah mark you have to really tweak that car to get it to go the brush barrels I tune it on the dyno turn the set screws in and out until the motor goes up then I use a hot glue gun A little dab on the screws so they don't come out and I tyco amateurs in it to make it run better 😊
Everything from Autoworld is cheap toy quality. Yes they have the ability to do fantastic high quality paint and detail on the bodies but at least half the time there is some obvious flaw in the finished product. Typically either an issue with the prep before paint or more commonly they damage it stuffing it into the package. Their chassis' are all junk even if you are lucky enough to get one that runs decent. Of course you can have fun running these things but if you aren't getting them cheap, at the HL price, there are MUCH better options. Even at the cheap price they really aren't much of a bargain.
Could not agree with you more. I would never have bought this but since it was given to me I figured let me check it out and I was not surprised with the results. Now that I tweaked the pickup shoes and put the traction magnets in high down force mode the car is actually kind of fun to drive but it should not take so much work to make it once around the track.
@@miker1721 Yes, email or call them and they will put you on the list to get one. My buddy did that since they are always sold out on the site. They built him one.
I’m never buying one of those Type 3 kits again. I put it together and after just a few seconds, the motor was scalding HOT ! Auto World was very cool and sent me a complete chassis quickly and apologized. The instructions absolutely suck.
@@marksslotcargarage seems like a lot of money just to get a body. I just bought a bag of bodies from AW for a lot less than one of those Pit Kits. ~side note, I will buy the pit kits for the pancake style chassis if I find one I like. Those are so much easier to put together and tune.
Great video only because, misery loves company!!!!! LOL!!!!! I really wish i saw your video before I wasted time building it. Ran great for about 10 minutes and then sputtered, stopped and was very hot. :(
Hi Mark. Off-topic, but I was wondering what your lap counter setup is. I have the bridge with lights in it and the sensors in the track, but the software is really old (lap counter 2000) and I don't have the computer anymore. Thanks.
It's a very poor design, the clip does not stay on secure enough. A minor crash and the clip pops off. The whole chassis in general requires a lot of tweaking to make it run decent.
