Autocad 2019 - XREFs (External References)
In this video I will explain you how to use external references.
They are simply a way to view external files in your current drawing. This is very useful when you need to make a project with several drawings. Just work in each drawing separately, and then create a file with all of them as external references. One big advantage is that the file will have a very small size.
If you have any questions or comments please feel free to post :).

Thanks for the video. I would like to know please that if the drawing file is XREF then how can I specify current layer that I want to, for example columns layer? I'm not able to to choose a current layer in this case, it's chosen as one layer for whole file as you see.

Hello! How can you edit an xref file without affecting the original one. Like you attached it on the new drawing and you want to change some areas but you dont want to affect the original one? Is there a command? Thanks

Hi +Peter Ngo. XREFs is basically a way of organizing drawings from different files, all in one file. You have to edit XREFs in the original files. By the way, maybe what you want is to use a drawing from a different file and then edit it. In this case, you can simply copy a drawing from another file with CTRL+C.

@@CADinblack oh i see, so there's no command like you can freeze the original XREF file while editing so you cant affect it. But I got what you mean. Thankss!

When you insert an XREF, you cannot just edit that file. It will look like the original file. You can just draaw a boundary to show a part of the XREF drawing.
