My friend actually bought a used one of these type of trucks (can't recall if it's an autocar brand) but he gave it a custom paint job & custom interior (tv's, leather seats etc.) and put a super charged turbo engine in it.
When coupling to a trailer, it's best to do the tug test before raising up the trailer! If the fifth wheel isn't latched correctly and the trailer is raised up, you are going to really drop that trailer.
when doing a tug/pull test, you need to do it at a lower level, if not, you will drop that trailer from a high point and risk damaging the landing gear and trailer floor
he fucked up, when he said when backing up n you hook up to the hitch step on the gas n lift your 5th wheel up but remember we had it on "R" reverse so stepping on the gas its going 2 make us go reverse while trying 2 lift the 5th wheel up, so what you really do is put it on "N" neutral n then step on the gas 2 lift your 5th wheel faster, thats all..
Would you buy a new truck from that guy let alone a used car? I wouldn’t. Three reasons: First the frames crack more on these trucks than on their competitor’s versions. There were some torch cuts on the top right rail for clearance that ware just plain stupid. The lift also has stress cracks from service. Second, that rear door and its lock will fail. Third, the rear and fifth wheel are too high to get under a trailer that sits a week or two. Ottawa are better trucks and a better value. Need a fourth, leaky hydraulic reservoirs, air leaks. Thank for reading.
Everything stated here is 100% true! Never been in such a piece of junk yard truck. Complete money pit with autocar. The heat and ac have issues as well. Their design is behind as well, taking the design from older yard trucks. Serious problem when you can't safely stop because of an air leak. Fith wheel lever does what it wants as well, so you have to constantly worry about it raising all the way up or lowering all the way dow. Pure junk!! Ottawa 100% the best!
These trucks suck..see that little step under the fuel tank..you will catch your heel on it many times..push button shifter is the worst idea for a yard truck ever and that stack flapper doesn't stop rattling...but the heater is awesome...junk!!!
