The run with the 2 series seemed very sloppy. Suspension is too soft. It was definitely quicker but those poor tires sound like they got absolutely destroyed in the process. Crazy to think the m240i weighs about 1000 pounds more than the 86! Wish BMW could have took some weight off the car but considering it has all that power and AWD the mass is appropriate. I may be in the minority but I think the 230i is the real rock star in the 2 series line up as far as balanced performance.

Could’ve pushed that gr86 harder. It’s literally one of the best drift platforms. That run has plenty of room for improvement. I’ve actually run mine against 240i before and was about to get a few seconds faster then the 240 each time. Which is crazy considering the 160 hp difference.

Thanks for your comment! Drifting is usually frowned upon at most autocross events, and definitely at this one. Of course driver skill, tires and brakes make huge differences in times, but you’re right in that the 86 punches way above its class on an autocross circuit. Plus, it’s hella fun to drive and has a sweet 6-speed manual 😎

At sec 36, of the GR86 lap, you can clearly see you slow down a lot compared to the other laps

That may have been the traction control kicking in…they really don’t trust journalists not to damage the cars. Otherwise it was just some bad driving on our part!

Honestly expected the M240 to be worse. The name suggests M but it's just a highway cruiser with gaudy design and two more cyls. But this highlights that well maintained F22 examples that can be had for about 30k EUR are superior to majority of options on the market.
