Internal Combustion id say sometimes Only if it ruins the balance of the car, is a badly done swap or something nice was parted out like a perfectly good c5 to swap its motor in something not as cool as what it came from

I wouldn't trust any other engine, my trucks stock ls has 350k miles.

had to do a double take there, I'm not a pilot, I'm a videographer, so I first interpreted that to mean 6k resolution at ___ frames per second. but I got it now, 6000'/minute 😄

@@CarlosRodriguez-kh3df ooohh, we could of used your skillset last summer! A DC3 blew a piston and the warbirds volunteer staff didn't have the equipment to fix it so they had it towed across the runway to Basler.

The only is missing is a special made propeller that has 13 inch wide blades and with 12 blades on a circle of the propeller that will produce very high air flow and great torque on the pull and a V8 would support that and the fuel economy would be better and will your speed flying

He was talking about the throttle body behind the prop but wouldn’t that be the rear of the engine? The throttle body would be on the other side by the windshield.

It probably gets better fuel and faster then the Merlin with less weight but the fuel system would have to be engineered so it won’t stall I believe

@Chester Dougherty The audio and subtitles on this video were not the best. If I was that guy I probably wouldn't do anything to the headers or for show. This engine is probably their test mule among other things..

Where did he say he could start that setup and demonstrate it? I couldn't tell what he said, and the Subtitles are REALLY BAD on this video!! lol Thanks for the vid... I would love to see a Dual Dry sump setup on this so it could do loops.... Also, Why don't they run the system off the engine oil system? With an off the shelf HV Oil Pump, an LS can make 60-80PSI easy... That should easily cover the 40psi they need. Or do they need much thicker oils? I just heard about LS in aircraft and googled it tonight. So I'm sorry if these are dumb questions... Please go easy on me. It's my birthday!

Nice setup but he really should spend $100 on some nice coated headers for his demo engine instead of those old rusty stuff. Just makes it look sloppy.

you could certainly use a few improvements. An aviation engine should have some bottom end improvements, IE: rods. PSRU could be 3:2 if the engine was properly tuned to a 3600 rpm rev limit and would raise longevity a lot. Turbo normalized would be wonderful?Build a better auto engine over stock and you will have good power and reliability. Out of the box the "LS" engine is not ideal. For air craft power the sbc has a better torque curve but is not as strong/reliable.

No safety wire on all those hydraulic fittings, wire leads, and still using a wet sump? Tell me how this guy can confidently say that you can 100% avoid negative G in turbulent air. Get thrown around a bit, oil pump sucks air here and there and cavitates. Or that serpentine belt goes out on takeoff but you don’t notice until after rotation and water temp takes off as well. I hope this guy doesn’t fly over populated areas

So why does he run 4,500 rpm (max torque) when max power is higher? Auto engines spend very little time at full power or high power in cars. It only takes 50 hp to 75 hp to cruise a car down the highway. Max acceleration and max power in cars occurs for a very small percentage of the engine’s life, and a very small number of its rotating cycles. Aircraft engines spend their lives at 60% to 75% power all the time and are expected to deliver 100% power for several minutes on every takeoff. When was the last time you ran your auto engine at full power for several minutes straight? Never? It occurs on every takeoff in an airplane. This is a much higher set of stress conditions than the engine was ever designed for. So my question is what do auto engine converters do to beef up the engines internals to account for the fact that they are constantly operating the engines at high power settings for much longer periods of time than they were designed for? Have the converters performed fatigue analyses on the rods, pistons, and pushrods using S-N curves? Have they beefed up the reciprocating assemblies for the increased number of high stress cycles the engines will see? Or have they simply said “I’ve never seen an LS3 blow a rod. It’ll take it”. Absent beefed up internals or at least a proper analysis of the existing internals, these things are accidents waiting to happen.

Before you get excited about hanging this on your Cessna or Piper a certified plane takes a certified engine. To date, there is no certified auto engines on the market, kitbashing time!
