I'm currently listening to the album and it's fantastic. I wish Blayne brought up the drumming on this album, for me the drums are always the highlight of Autopsy. The new bassist totally kicks ass, we need more sludge influence in death doom

Totally agree on the bass. Wasn’t expecting as much Doom as I got and I fucking loved it. The sludge 100% works…love this damn record.

You are correct. I should know. My brother has been friends with Cuttler since high school and Autopsy used my family's garage for practice in the mid-'80s. My brother also roadied for them on most of their tours and shows.

Together with Bolt Thrower and Dismember, Autopsy is the only band that I know of that is instantly recognizable as itself under all circumstances. Also it's probably the only deathmetal band that can invoke a sense of melancholy, which is kinda weird because that's not what deathmetal is supposed to do.

I appreciate it when you guys are honest and "crap" on these bands because I gave up on extreme metal 25 years ago because of a lack of quality song writing. I call it the extreme metal con game. Extreme elements in lieu of song writing. Maybe "crapping" on them will help raise the standards.

Also, adding to the insane number of great death metal releases this month, I'll have to through in Thulsa Doom and their debut album A Fate Worse Than Death. It sounds like a modern twist on Altars of Madness!

If only they could get great cover art instead of the goofy, cartoonish ones they got on almost all of their albums. They could even use some gruesome public domain paintings instead. Musically, they are solid and steady but visually they've always been off for me.
