You mentioned that Quebec is a French speaking Canadian province and there's even a law of speaking French in that province. Thanks for showing that fun fact to the viewers in this video!

Quebec Autoroute 30 (QC A-30) is a main autoroute that bypasses Montreal as it parallels QC 132 for most of it's length by travelling along the south shore of the St. Lawrence River for most of it's length connecting between Vaudreuil-Dorion and Sorel Tracy. However, there's a short section in Bécancour as an alternate of QC 132 bypassing Trois-Rivières.

2:36 Never? No. For example, the sign for trucks at 2:16 is written in both French and English (although English is small...). Also, in some parts of Montreal, signs are in both French and English. The problem is mostly in cities anyway, rather than outside. The province already knew there'll be many Anglophones going on our roads, so we use pictograms as much as possible.

Aren't the bilingual signs around Montréal mostly federal or local? Most of the French on road signs is easy enough to understand anyways. In any case, if Québec were forced to put English on all its road signs, then the other provinces should be forced to put French on all their road signs too.

I know there are some exceptions where english is used on signage, however I think its infrequent enough that I am comfortable with my wording. Thanks for watching.

@@ValerieDeane I suppose that's my point. Both Ontario and New Brunswick have a considerable amount of french signage. Ontario isn't fully bilingual like New Brunswick is, but if its neighbours are extending an olive branch, it would be nice to see the same from Quebec. Personally, I think the TCH should be signed bilingually for its entire route.

@@AsphaltPlanet1 "it would be nice to see the same from Quebec" That will not happen unless the other provinces make enough pro French rules that ensures a solid base for French language, so we can add more English without dooming it in North America. Unless you aren't aware, Quebec is a blue island in a sea of red, if you know what I mean, and we've worked very hard not to allow what remains of us to go full on English, despite English classes being mandatory. Not going to be cool at all with... only English and a lil bit of Spanish (if you count Mexico as being in NA) will only show how much we're pretty much one-sided when it truly comes to culture variety.

@@dontgetlost4078 seeing as how 32 seats in the last federal election went to a candidate that publicly stated that he doesn't care at all about the rest of Canada, I don't see Quebec ever bowing to the wishes of the rest of Canada, regardless of what the rest of Canada's policies are. And french classes are mandatory in Ontario's schools as well.

I love how the road surface changes right when you enter Quebec

Matthew Derohanessian I would honestly say Quebec’s roads have improved dramatically! I would rate the quality better than Ontario (at least compared to the 417 and 401 in SE Ontario)

That's the case in the United States. Heck, where I live in southwestern Pennsylvania, when I take rte 51 north towards Pittsburgh and cross from Westmoreland County which is in Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's (PennDOT's) district 12 into Allegheny County, which is in PennDOT district 9, the road surface changes.

And much to the consternation of the rest of Canada and other provinces Québec uses the metric system on its road signs instead of the imperial.

@@AsphaltPlanet1 Indeed it does. But my (missed) point is 'Why should Anglophones be surprised that a Francophone country uses French-only signage on its roads? I'm from Belgium, and in the French-speaking south all place names and signage is .... guess what ... in French. In the Dutch-speaking north all road signs are in .... surprise surprise ... Dutch. In the German-speaking east of Belgium, you guessed it, road signs are in German. And in the officially bilingual capital Brussels, they are in French and Dutch!
@AsphaltPlanet1
@AsphaltPlanet1 3 года назад
@@TheMexxodus Quebec is still part of Canada and many anglophone Canadians resent the fact that many predominantly English provinces bend over backwards to provide French language signage to what is most often a fairly small (though vocal) minority of Francophones while Anglophone majority areas in Quebec (which actually exist) are legally forbidden from using English on any highway signage at all. It’s a double standard.
