Hey Isaac (I'm just seeing this for some reason), yeah thanks, it's pretty wild what they make available in a free program nowadays. You can make albums with this stuff! (I produced a pop single entirely in GB to challenge myself! You can hear it at DeanDavisMusic.com.) Good to hear from you Isaac, -Dean

@@thesongwritingstudio5783 thanks a lot for this , i have composed and programmed many songs with GB , but i used to forget to set the Key of the project. i had kept many at just C Major , the default. Damn !! it really makes a difference doesnt it. setting the key. if i am in singing in FMinor and my project key is at CMajor , does it make huge difference??
@thesongwritingstudio5783
@thesongwritingstudio5783 5 лет назад
Hey @@mithileshtarkar1! It won't make a huge difference but you will notice the difference it makes when you sing a note that is meant for the key of F#m that doesn't exist in the key of C and the pitch correction will push that note into a note in the key of C rather than F#m. One way that you could work around it is by clicking off of the "Limit to Key" button in the edit window of your track. That way, it will just push the note to the note you are singing instead of pushing the note to the nearest note in the key of C... make sense? Hope that helps Mithilesh! -Dean

Yes indeed you can live fast. You can do it either way, record with it on to get a feel for how it's going to sound or record with it off and add it later. As far as finding what key you're in, they are lots of resource on youtube/google for finding what key you're in, it is just a way that will help the pitch correction feature sound it's best. How do you use Auto Tune if you are recording a song that modulates to a different key later in the song?
@thesongwritingstudio5783
@thesongwritingstudio5783 4 года назад
Hey Grady, fantastic question. If I were doing a song that modulates then when I go to turn on the pitch correction in GB I would NOT engage the "limit to key"button, as that button will make all of your notes be pushed toward the key that is determined in the project header, but if you do not engage that button it will simply tune your vocal to a chromatic scale, essentially pushing the performance to the closest note whether it's in the key or not. With this technique though (as with pitch correction in general) you will really need to be hitting your marks and work hard to have a performance that is not pitch before it hits pitch correction. Hope that helps Grady! -Dean

Yes Robert, they are in iOS GB but they look a little different. When you open a new voice track in GB iOS there is a knob called "Pitch Control" (it's in the top row, middle knob) and that is essentially the same thing as the pitch correction slide in the OS version of GarageBand. @thesongwritingstudio5783
@thesongwritingstudio5783 6 лет назад
Hey Rachel! Really good question. The answer is no... and yes :). No, you can't have the pitch correction feature turn on and off throughout the course of a song BUT(!) you can get creative and simply make a duplicate track (Cmd+D) for your vocals so that you can give one pitcher correction and one no pitch correction. From there you can cut your vocal performance into sections (highlight the take, put the playhead where you want to cut and hit Cmd+T to split a take) and then simply drag the different parts of your vocal performance into you pitch corrected track or into your non pitch corrected track. Hope that helps Rachel! -Dean

Hey Will! Hmmmm well, my biggest tip would be to experiment. Meaning, I try LOTS of different singing/instrument ideas and even ask friends to collaborate and throw out their melody ideas. My second tip be to use a keyboard to try and play out vocal melody ideas and then vice versa, try and use your voice to come up with synth parts. That's all for now, feel free to ask more questions Will! -Dean

Check out this video for a chart that will help you find what key you are in... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G6bD1qJxRow.html B. Here are a few common keys you might be playing in: 1. If you're playing chords like G C D Em, you're in the key of G 2. If you're playing chords like C G F Am, you're in the key of C 3. If you're playing chords like E A B C#m, you're in the key of E 4. If you're playing chords like D G A Bm, you're in the key of D 5. If you're playing chords like F Bb C Dm, you're in the key of F 6. If you're playing chords like A D E F#m, you're in the key of A 7. If you're playing chords like B E F# G#m, then you're in the key of B *if you're playing guitar and using a capo, then this would shift what key you're in UP however many steps/frets your capo is on your guitar! I hope that helps Tom! -Dean

I don't have a pitch correction slider, or a limit to key button.. can someone tell me what's wrong with my garageband app? I also don't have all the loops they won't download if that's helpful..
@thesongwritingstudio5783

Hey TwoKay, here's a few ideas... A. When you're in the edit window make sure you have the "Track" tab selected and not the "Region" tab. The pitch correction tools are only visible from the "Track" tab. B. If that doesn't work, then your edit window may be too small to show those features. Take your mouse and hold it over the top line of the edit window and you can grab it and pull it up and make the edit window bigger which will sometimes show more features that were hidden when the window was smaller. Let me know if that helps TwoKay! -Dean

As mentioned bellow, you can't see if unless you make GB fullscreen or unless you grab your edit window (by hovering over the top of the edit window, then clicking and dragging) to make the edit window bigger. When you do this a few features appear. Hope that helps! -Dean

Great video, what if a guy fucked up and didn't change the key from c before recording a song in c# minor? Is there a way to copy and paste everything into a new project with the correct key selected before hand in that project?
@thesongwritingstudio5783
@thesongwritingstudio5783 6 лет назад
Hey Jordan, it happens sometimes haha. Yes, you're right on track, you can create a new blank project with the correct parameters and then simply copy and paste things over by highlight a performance, hitting Cmd+C and then going into the new project and pasting. An easier way to do it might be to create a save as version (a duplicate) of the project and delete all of the performances, correct the session parameters, then go back to the old file and highlight all of your live audio tracks at once (maybe even you're MIDI too) and hit paste into the new project (instead of going at it one performance at a time). Let me know if that helps Jordan! -Dean

@heroindoses1991
@heroindoses1991 6 лет назад
The Songwriting Studio I tried copying and pasting a vocal performance to the new save as duplicate which had the correct key but it keeps transposing the vocal as if it thinks it was actually recording in C minor since I accidentally had the key set to that in the beginning, if you have better luck with this technique I would love to hear about it.
@thesongwritingstudio5783
@thesongwritingstudio5783 6 лет назад
Bummer! Well, in that case you're only two options would be to export copy and paste each track one by one into a new project or if that didn't even work, then you could export each audio file as an AIFF file and re import it into a new project! Hope that helps Jordan! -Dean

Can someone help me pls..what if my songs shifts from C chord to D..it will affect the notes right.so how to do it without affecting the shifting
@thesongwritingstudio5783
@thesongwritingstudio5783 5 лет назад
As long are you are not shifting keys then it will work just fine when you change chords on your instrument! You would only run into a problem if you are changing keys... for example: if you started in the key of G (G Am Bm C D Em D/F#) and you moved between any of those chords the pitch correction would still work correctly BUT if you shifted keys mid song to A (A Bm C#m D E F#m E/G#) then it might try and push your new vocals into the key of A! Hope that helps! -Dean

Thank u for replying admin..so u mean theres no solution to that?u cant use autotune if ur song shifts chords??? I really need to know coz i got alot of songs which shift in the last chorus to build up melodic energy
@thesongwritingstudio5783
@thesongwritingstudio5783 5 лет назад
@@jettv.official4480 You're welcome!... Not that I know of... but one solution may to be not engaged the "limit to key" button and simply push the pitch correction slider up to around 55. This might help push notes to the nearest note without pushing them into the wrong key. -Dean
