The problem with rented tools is that parts are often missing. In your toolbox the large and heavy collar to expand the jaws is missing. Also without the collar you cannot grip a bearing on the outside.

Buying a tool, using it, and returning it, is a dirty fucking thing to do. Doing this forces the retailer to sell the tool a second time, at a reduced cost, which drives up the cost on other, identical new tools, making them more expensive for everyone else. It's a lot easier to just go to a tool rental store, rent to use, then return it and get your deposit back. This is just typical me me me me screw everyone else childish behavior.
