I appreciate this video!! Definitely the best one for what I had to do! Had a bolt broke off in a bolt hole for the starter that I almost didn’t catch and was only just a few days away from dropping my motor in my truck! Did exactly what was shown in your video and it came right out! Thank you again!

Once again a very good video my friend. Please let me add my 2 cents. I've been drilling out broken bolts for over 40 years as an airplane mechanic. My word of advice is when you drill into steel its with low speed and high pressure. When you drill into non ferrous metals as aluminum and copper it is with a high speed and low pressure. That along with some good lubrication will save your drill bits from heating up and dulling out. Also if you drill steel with high speed what happens is you work harden the surface and will make it very difficult to get another bit to drill into the surface. Thanks again and I really like them easy outs your using.

Hey Mike :) I haven't commented for a bit. Been busy coming up with a plan to find and have a custom-built RV for the Mrs. & I. (A van-type RV on a Promaster.) So I've been pretty busy in the past few weeks. Nice job on showing us another way to get broken studs / screws out. I hadn't ever thought about the "setup process" you went thru before you backed it out with the extractor. I can see how that would make it a lot easier. Take care my friend. See you on the flip side. And as always, thanks for sharing your talents with all of us.

If you have a small MIG welder, tack a worn out driver bit to the broken bolt and then wind it out with a drill... the bonus is that the heat shocks/loosens the bond due to expansion/contraction. It works every single time. Give it a try if you don't have these ez outs but you have a wire welder...
@SweetProjectCars

AN you are correct we do the mig welder every week it seems but with this channel based on the DIYer that doesn't have that tool we share how they can still have success with simple hand tools

saved this video to my play list and gave a thumbs up! simple, great info and no 6 minute intro to blankly stare at. i just have one critique - i would use left handed drill bits instead. sometimes the snapped off bit will twist in the direction of the drill bit, and it's better for it to come out rather than further into the hole. keep up the good work!

I made the mistake of tapping it lol listen to this guy DONT DO IT!!! LOL Thankfully I had 2 so I still have one to do it properly.... Instead of destroying another one I figured I'd look online, how it got the thing off was by pounding a torx socket into the hole lol that worked well... It's tomorrow's problem getting that stud off the torx socket lol

i've broken three of this bolt extractor on a very very rusted bolts. in this demonstration is no rust seen so everything go by plan and so easy. only solution is welding a nut on a broken bolt.

Well after you broke the first extractor, common sense would tell you that you need to heat it up then it would come right out rust or no rust. Thanks. mad Mike the hammer SPC

What size screw extractor did you use? Also what drill bit sizes did you use?
@SweetProjectCars
@SweetProjectCars 3 года назад
It depends on the size of the bolt you are removing, always go one half the size for the drill bit and extractor compared to the bolt size. So if you have a 1/2" bolt you will use a 1/4" drill bit and the appropriate extractor. Hope this helps, thanks for watching and asking Ryan! Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
