Great to see my old manor in this video. The area looks quite autumnal, more than in Wales at the moment. Hope you managed to get a tea at the hut in Beckenham Palace Park.
Wonderful to walk through this part of your old territory Sean - I just missed the cafe at Beckenham Place and ended up having a pint back in Leytonstone
What a lovely autumn walk John. I walked around Penge and Beckenham recently and spent a fascinating couple hours in Beckenham Cemetery searching for W.G Grace and Thomas Crapper (amongst others). There is a stink pipe with a lamp in Carting Lane ( behind the Savoy Hotel). Loving the quirky Street names too - South London is such a revelatory part of the world.
Enjoyable walk, love autumn the golds, reds and brown leafs.living in the wandle valley area many years ago the penge area was like living up in the Alps.stay safe.
Perfect video for an autumn Sunday evening! Brings back fond childhood memories of Crystal Palace Park and the dinosaurs (I spent the first forty-five years of my life down the road in Biggin Hill) . Thanks, John!😃 P.S. Hope you're cosily ensconced in a supping on a well-deserved pint or two!
@@JohnRogersWalks Great stuff, John! 😃 I’m three-quarters of the way through Welcome to the New London, having read This Other London last year. Don’t want it to end! 🙂
The Eurostar trains did used to travel along normal rail lines through London at first. Until they built the infrastructure. So that is probably correct for twenty years ago.
We live in Beckenham so it was nice to watch you do this walk. Beckenham place park was a golf course until a few years ago. We are walkers so thank you for all your videos.
Thank you for enduring a rainy day walk. Your leaves are a bit ahead of ours (northern Kentucky). Now time for a nice pub visit, over the meadow and over the stream!
You can see at the end of the video there a bit of sunshine in despite of the grey sky, this just adds a gilded sheen to the Autumnal beauty of a walk like this. A classic film! Nice one John. 🌟👍
i'm probably wrong, but my first glance suggested those were ponderosa pines - we're swamped with them here.. that reminds me of a song! leaping from tree to tree, as they float down the mighty rivers of british columbia! the giant redwood! the larch! the fir! the MIGHTY scots pine! the smell of fresh-cut timber! the crash of mighty trees! with my best girl by my side, we'd sing... Sing... SING!!! lol sorry, sorry, i got a bit carried away, there 😊
I recall seeing Eurostars at Penge and Bromley South - it was when Waterloo was the London terminus, before St. Pancras was converted. Beckenham Place Park is a lovely place for a walk as is Crystal Palace,
Hello John, I've seen a few of your videos and remember the Barking videos well. You met up with Paul from the friends of the river rodding, very nice fella, I volunteered on a clear up a couple of years ago with him and the second time you got stuck in a coracle on the river when you were with Sean. You were brave to just dive in headfirst 😂 I watch Sean's videos of his life in Wales and am a regular contributor to the comments section.I do hope that you two do another collaboration video, but this time in his neck of the woods so to speak! Take care John 👍
Everything in this lovely video is familiar to me; especially during Autumn, my fave season I know I must allow at least double time to watch a John Rogers film; the pictures are so vividly illustrative of the beauty of the season, I have to back track! Then watch the whole thing again without interruption. No one captures the feeling of 'place' in a video so pertinently as this. Nice one John! 🌟👍
It's funny. I asked you at your book launch when you would be doing another south of the river walk, and here you are . Love the book " The Black Path ," all the best 🤠
Brilliant video as usual John. Just a bit of a correction though - the Capital Ring is 78 miles and divided into 15 sections. The London Loop is 24 sections covering just over 150 miles.
Such a lovely walk John . Cheers 👍. Beckenham looks very Heaven to me but was the suburban dystopia that gave rise to Bowie , Hanif Kureshei , Billy Idol ( amongst others ) .
Eurostar passed through Penge (at a far from high speed!) when it operated out of Waterloo before being re-routed to St Pancras. With friends in the Beckenham area, we have on occasions walked up and around the woodland area of Beckenham Place Park. Always decisions to make as to which path to take, the sign posted or the unsigned posted tracks!
Hi John. Me and the wife started the capital ring recently 👍🏻 our next one is Grove Park to Crystal Palace. We like to do them in order unlike you 😂. Finished the London loop this summer too. Have you tried Goddards pie & mash in Greenwich? Will be heading there once we finish the next section.
John,, forgive me if you have and I've missed it, but have you ever had a good walk around Greenwich and Blackheath? One of my favourite places in London.
