klarinettenmandi Matthew has a very warm, smooth, soft tone on his Soprano. He has used a Cannonball Soprano with a Otto Link hard rubber 6* mouthpiece and a Rico Royal 3 reed in his video (Summer Time)
one of the best performance in regard to the tone color. rythemic movement on the authentic jazz rythem and well recomposed based on the main theme of autumn leaves. many many thanks !!!
Beautifully played!! I would love to play my soprano like you. I've still got loads to learn though, and my improvisation skills are very limited at the moment. You do indeed have a beautiful tone, especially up high. God bless you Matthew in all your beautiful playing. 🤩
Wow, that was excellent Sir - I admire how you make it look so easy! I'm a long-time guitarist, mostly rock+blues and ballads, but have just started playing with a jazz/blues bunch, of trumpet, sax and double-bass. It's a real pleasure to feed off their music, and put something in. I hope you get out and get heard, your music should be. Please ignore the dead-head section of the online community, we're stuck with them, I fear.
Thanks for the nice video. I got a fairly decent chinese cheapie sop sax recently. Its not my main instrument but I like to toot on it once in a while. Your videos are very helpfull. I hope you don't get too discouraged by the negative comments and take down too many of these inspirational vids. So what if you don't walk amoung the gods. You're pretty damn good and I like to watch and listen to competent musicians do there stuff. The anonimity of this forum makes it easy for wannabe critics and experts to exercise their egoes and huff and puff. It means nothing. Ignore it and keep on doing what you are doing. Most of us out here know how much time and effort goes into these presentations and we appreciate your hard work. Keep it up, please.
Dear Matthew (my son's name is Matthew too :) ), you have improved tremendously over the years. following you since your then render of MY FUNNY VALENTINE on soprano, your tone is awesome. And you make the joy of many on the tube. So F....the haters and keep going man. If you one day visit Mauritius Island, would be happy to have a nice gig with you :)
It is not about the hate comment or the song you play (just forget abt them), it is the way you play, which is truly great. Your doing good. Prathiajit
It make me smile to hear your play. The sax really talks to you.Thank you so much for sharing your talent. If you ever tour the east coast let me me know and I will be there.
Sorry to hear that 'The Kiddies' with no life have seen fit to sully that of others. Take a deep breath Mathew and focus on the pleasure you get from playing and always remember those of us out in the ethernet who have gained enormously from your efforts and advice. Kia Kaha from New Zealand. Be strong, have strength.
Love the sound man. I've been listening since 2010 and I can never get enough of your soprano tone / sound concept. I'd listen to you play all wrong notes hahaha
truly amazing, I usualy play alto, but have recently purchased a soprano and the tuning is very difficult to get correct, youtube sould make a 6th star just for this video, you have truly amazed me, i dont see how anyone can critisize your videos they are very good.
You are Mr RU-vid and the first saxophonist which I started following on you tube as a benchmark. Everytime you post a song I have to listen to it. You've educated me on playing and introduced me to many Jazz standards of which I may never have come across. Thank-you. I'm coming Leicester soon to do some street entertainining with my tenor. Laters. Don't be surprised if you hear some of your licks played by me. lol
Hi ! Beautiful sound ! Your improvisation sounds great ! I really like these phrases and the way it sounds with the soprano (my favourite) : it gives a nice feel to the all song. Keep good vibrations. From France.
It's a shame you have to delete your old vids, I sometimes find myself watching your older stuff as well as the newer. This is one of my all time favorite standards, to both play and hear, and you play it beautifully. I'm planning on getting a soprano myself and might post some videos when I do (I have one video of me playing alto right now). Keep up the great work, and never stop playing.
Have always loved your videos; musical and beautiful tone always. Technique we all have to work on and grows slowly over time in response to the hours we put in. You are a natural musician. Keep swinging. Jim
Great version of a wonderful melody. Sorry you had to take down your uploads. I automatically tag anything I upload with the 'Approved' option. That way I can scan any comments in my channel and dustbin troll comments before letting others appear.
nicely played and good intonation which is harder on soprano than any other saxophone .. you did it with a great tune too... autumn leaves one of the best tunes ever... bobby g.
This is really good. I play alto sax and am hoping to get a soprano. I even have this music in one of my books and I am now determined to learn this piece.
i've been playing guitar for 9 years now and I wanted to try out a brass instrument just for fun. I could not choose between the trumpet, t. sax and sop. sax. ... until now :) Thanks :)
I play alto but regardless of what I play - I like your approach to the tunes and your tone is very smoothe. I subscribed and Thanks for putting out these videos.
Hi Matt, sorry that some people are so dumb, in most case it's simply envy, I've been blowing jazz for around 45 years, and you are a very cool good player with an awesome sop sound. I know about such dumb comments but don't let it get you down, some people think I play well and some think I'm very average, but we dig what we do so just hang in there Matt. Best wishes from an Englishman who works as a musician in Germany 👍
Super!!! You are doing it Good!! As they saying goes in Dutch. 'De beste stuurlui staan aan wal'. The Best sailors are those standing on shore, screaming at the guy on the helm how to sail his boat. How sad you deleted your work. Music is a journey, not any part of the journey is bad. Thanks a lot for your music.
You sound great! I love your style and phrasing. Soprano is the horn I am most comfortable on, the tenor I am hot and cold with. Don't listen to the haters, you are awesome, just keep doing your thing bro.
How nice: a weekend with a new CDD video! Autumn Leaves - this wonderful song is a real challenge! I like the Miles Davis version which you play in measure 7: using the 6th instead of the root. The solo is really inspiring and typical Matthew Stone because you avoid any kind of sentimentality but sound very "modern". I will try to transcribe it :-)
oh no matthew, just disable the comments !! those people are just misable with themselves and probably couldn't even play twinkle, twinkle! love your playing & vids ...the vast majority would like you to keep the vids!! disable comments! thanks for all your help. john
@icespartan1171 yes :) alto is tuned down 1 and a half steps from concert pitch (ex. Concert C -piano guitar ect- is an Alto's A -and baritone sax) and a soprano is tuned up a whole step from a concert pitch (Concert C is a Soprano D - and tenor or bass sax) , but all saxes have the same fingerings! :)
By the way... your interpretations of these great tunes are now a play list on my ipod. I can only wish to play so well... I keep coming back to them. Wishing I had figured out sooner how to pull them to my computer before the larger group went away. Maybe they will come back??? What if we could get folks from a multinational listenership petition??? Ok you ge the point.
I'm so sorry you've had to experience hateful comments. I have no idea why people do that--but there will always be hateful people in the world. Wish there was an automated way to filter comments on these videos :) Anyways, beautiful job! I am using the Jamey Aebersold track for voice lessons, so I came here looking for a melody line.
Hi, I really like your video. Tanks a lot for it! I can't understand why people click on dislike or write derogatory comments instead of just going to the next video. Once again, thank you very much!
You play for an audience of one. For what it is worth, this one thoroughly enjoyed it. YSS 875? What reed and mouthpiece combination delivers such a broad tonal palette?
Truly Beautiful sound on the soprano. I've been on the lookout for a decent soprano for some time now, now I really just have to get one. :) Very well done, some of your phrasing reminds me of good ol' Paul Desmond. Keep it up, cheers
yes that would be great. Be prepared to be photographed by many people on the street. It can be strange at first but people really appreciate Jazz on the street and they will tell you as they drop their gifts.
Matt - So sorry that the guys can't just recognize all the postive musical energy you are conveying and appreciate it. Don't know why this happens. Wish it didn't. I have been listening and will continue to because you are a terrific musician. Hang in there brother! This too shall pass and your notes will still be streaming in all the right directions! Love your cut on this tune. What's soprano are you playing? Sounds great and I love the dark sound.
sounds awesome dude, Thrid time I'm hearing it , I hope you make some more of this :).. I'm looking into getting a saprano sax . too , I used to play tenor around 20 years ago , so I'm a bit rusty .. I could sur use some advice on whats good for around 500 dollars? these days ... thanx
Hi Sir! I love your music! and you got me into Jazz music! Can you please tell me How much was your Soprano Saxophone? Please and where can i buy i good one online? Thanks
Let the haters do their job, that's what do..they hate what they can't have and what they can't do..I just added you in my favorites..plz don't stop posting your music!!
Great anticipation and leading into the chord changes. What's your setup? Your sound is very focused. I used a tuning app on your clip and your very much in tune throughout the video.
lol i read the description and i cant understand how could they give you all those comments, uve done an excelent job, its the first time i hear you and you have a beautiful sound and ur making good music! =) Im a pianist, i know what the process of learning means hehe. =)
Your playing is superb. The internet is filled with trolls with wander around and make sport of trashing anything and anyone. I assure you, you are a top improviser....I use abersold, band in a box, ireal...etc...and also play Soprano.
From one sax player to another that song was beautiful. the licks and changes were excellent. Could I ask you what type of sax and mouthpiece that you play with? I am looking for the best value for a new alto and soprano.
I am getting a good tone on my soprano now - but people tell me to put more mouthpiece in - when I do I find it harder to control the sound - I aim for a kind of Desmond/Konitz sound which I find easier with a very small amount of mouthpiece - do you think I am storing up trouble for future? I only ask because it looks like you don't take much in. Great sound by the way - inspiring/encouraging! Thanks
I'm so sorry you have to fight those bad comments. But there are so many stupid people out there.. I always love your music and I really like the sound of your soprano. I'm just about to buy a cannonball tenor and hope my sound with it will be better than now. Please don't stop posting clips because as a beginner on the sax I get so much inspiration from you. Thank you.
matt, you are one of the straightest, likable, and talented people I've know (despite never having met) why on earth do you let idiots get to you like that. you put those posts back up please!
Another wonderful and beautifully played standard, thank you and please keep them coming. Also, do you mind sharing which mouthpiece you're using? It looks like a Rovner ligature but am curious about the mouthpiece brand / style / tip opening / etc. :)
