another awesome vid fellas! a great laugh I can relate 100% to the camera isues haha! thats a bloody kiwi guys! had them going off on a camping mission on sika recently, keep em coming guys! great stuff
Thanks Katy, it's not the typical call of a kiwi, but I guess you can't rule it out, surely they all don't sound the same aye. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Great vid guys. Gutted about the miss. That call is from Weka. I recognise where you are and was wondering the exact same thing one night I was staying up there. It got the better of me so I tracked one down. Found one hiding in the grass up on the top there. 100% weka. Don’t know what the call is exactly though.
Hi Clinton, I was hoping you may have heard it and would comment. Seems like the mystery is solved. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍. (& not giving away the location)
@@BushEscape haha When there is a productive spot like that it’s best not to share it with to many people 😜. When I first heard the call, it was way off in the distance and my first thought was a lost dog howling. Then they all started so it eliminated that as an option (or there was a lot of lost dogs haha). A few trips later I decided I had to try find out what it was. They only do it at night and from all the places I go, seem to only be around that area. Again what the call is exactly I can’t answer that.
Absolutely, I've been hunting that area for 15 odd years, probably twice a year or less (not into thrashing it). I too thought it was a dog but the sound seemed to follow us all the way to campsite, oh well it is what it is... ps. Might see in you in there one day, pss subbed you 👍
Hi Marcus, thanks appreciate your feedback and glad you like them. No just one entry and exit, it did look like it aye, but if you freeze frame just before impact you'll see it drops low and forward. Thanks for watching and commenting mate 👍
Maybe send the footage of the bird sound through to Te Papa? I know they are super helpful with fish IDs and they may be able to identify? Great video again cheers 👍
Lol gold aye mate. I don't have slow mo on this camera but must of been the angle of light reflecting on the bullet, yep very cool. Thanks for watching and commenting
Thanks kroadie, yeah very happy to land a good eating animal. No I don't believe it to be warbler, the closest I've managed to find online is actually a Petrol (sea bird) but still not 100% certain. Cheers for watching mate 👍
Yes I agree, more dog like than bird, but I heard it 6 months ago, so I'm sure it couldn't be a dog. But thanks heaps tewai taking the time to comment, really appreciate it 👍
It definitely sounds dog/whimpering puppy, but I'm sure if it was it would venture into campsite, ps. That other sound was actually a Weka, they sound the same as Kiwi but their call duration is shorter, (apparently) thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Thanks Robert, yep definitely recognized the weka, interesting re the kaka, I've never seen any in there before but I'll be paying more than the usual attention to them next time. Thanks for your comment 👍
Hey John, just watched that episode, (good little father/daughter vid), quite a different sound to whio mate, so I think the jury's still out on it, for now anyway. Cheers again mate 👍
