dreamery not to pry, but how much does it cost to go there? And have a place to stay and what not

Not prying at all! So when I went the first time, it was through a study abroad program with my school, for plane and accommodations it cost me about $2500 out of pocket. That didn't include spending money public transit fare. This last time I went, it was during May. I went for a month with my boyfriend. In which case, this time we stayed at Airbnb's because it was way cheaper than hotels, and we didn't really want to be at any hostels or shared apartments. So this past time, it cost $1100 for the plane tickets per person; we bought them late and we were going off season. But if you go during on-season, (holidays, summer, etc.) it will be more expensive. Airbnb between the both of us cost $900ish. And since we split the cost for it, it cost us $450ish each. Then we also wanted to travel around Japan, and not just stay in Tokyo the entire time. So we got a week's worth of JR Pass for the Shinkansen that was $252 each. The wifi (because there is no public wifi) cost us $200, so $100 per person. And we spent a decent amount on public transit, probably around $100-200 each. I also had us take taxis a few times, because luggage of any kind is not convenient in a train-dynamic country. So I paid for taxis most of the time I had us take one, and it was about $25-30 each time. That's probably all for the mandatory expenses, So roughly, it'll be just $2000-3000ish give or take on how long you are there, when you're there, if you're sharing a place with others or not, and how much you are going to travel around for. We bought a lot of merchandise, but we learned quickly if you want to buy anything, and I mean anything, it is much cheaper outside of Tokyo! For example, Osaka and Fukuoka aren't huge tourist attraction cities, therefore they have really dirt cheap merch. Most clothing in Japan is going to be on the pricey side, even the thrift stores! But sometimes you get lucky and find sales, or smaller department stores that aren't too bad. Food, as long as you're not constantly eating at a sit down restaurant, you won't blow a hole in your pocket. You can get amazing meal for dirt cheap at like 7/11, Family Mart, etc. In fact, that's all we lived off of majority of the time, and I miss it terribly. All in all, I spent around $1000-2000 on myself, leisure, merch and food. I hope this isn't too long for you, but I hope this helps!! I'm sure moving there is kinda different in price. I'm still trying to make up my mind between having a vacation home there, or moving there for a year or two. Let me know if you have any other questions!
