I’m loving the sound of your plans. Your fabric choice for the Marnie is lush. Let it do the talking and don’t do the frills on the shoulders. I can’t wait to see your coat in that amazing pink!
I made the Nova coat pattern when it was called Sapporo coat…. From what I remember it only had about 3 or 4 sizes so the new release had more sizes? My only suggestion would be to think seriously about what they called the cuffs/sleeves…. You cut out 4 and each cuff is two of the outer wool fabric. It makes the seams very thick where you join to the sleeve…. If I was making it again I think I would do a facing for the inside cuff hem and attach it to lining fabric to cut down on bulk…. Hope this makes sense?!?! I’d also size down… mine turned out very roomy! I’ve long since donated it so you’ve put me in the mood to try another version!! Good luck 😊
Haha! I’ve just finished my Lyra in the BTPD fabric and I love it! I’ll get some snaps tomorrow and wang them on Instagram. And as a 50 something, menopausal gal (who still thinks she’s 18 in her head) I feel your pain with the flumpy thing. I will just say now, you always look fabulous, always make me laugh and here’s to seeing how all your makes turn out 😊
Honestly I would love for you to talk for an hour. I’m in a fragile place today (my nan past yesterday), discovering new videos from you, Tamlyn and other sewingladies is actually comforting, no matter how weird that must sound. So you waffle on, please! ❤ love your plans and can’t wait to see what you end up making.
Those fabrics look fabulous together. You'll have a lovely collection for winter if you get them all made Ruan. That pink looks so good on you.Yes I'm completely with you with the weight thing. If you don't feel happy with yourself there's only you who can do something about it. It's not how you look to others it's how you feel inside. Sounds like you're on the right track. I'm not a pink girl myself but the premise for the inspiration is right up my street. My goal is blouses - I never have the right top which I feel good in. I want to feel sassy but I'm short & busty so feel like a weeble right now. I've paired back my pattern choices & given myself small achievable goals. One pattern 3 fabrics that way I can practice fit with one, get the fit right with the second then hopefully cut out that special fabric with number 3. By then I'll be itching to try a new pattern. Trouble with me is I love knitting too - love too many gorgeous patterns out there for that as well. Love listening to you Ruan you're a tonic after a busy day in the office. X❤
Your fabrics are gorgeous.I wish pattern companies would put their finished size on their information.I have bought the larger size option of a pattern to find because of the ease I needed the normal range. The colour pink for your coat and the lining looks stunning .
Gorgeous fabrics and colours in your plans! I tend to plan like that, to coordinate fabrics and plan how I can mix and match. You’re gonna look stunning in those garments, and the coat…. 🤩🤩🤩 The knit with the abstract roses I think is called a jaquard knit, I have sewn a tunic dress in a similar fabric. About the Marnie blouse, I would omit the frill on the shoulders. Good luck with your fantastic autumn sewing! 💖
I can sympathize with you about your body and health. My body shape has changed due to surgery and I sometimes get depressed over it and I changed my diet to help me feel better as well. I also walk. So, I cheer you on! We’re all different and that’s beautiful 😍. I think you look beautiful and I’m excited to see your makes because they’re always amazing. I think I can safely say that your followers love watching you fall in love with fabrics, patterns and yes your subscription boxes! Thank you for sharing! Your friend Diane ❤
Oh my, I think the frill...the Marney is so cute with the ruffle across the top. Everything is gorgeous on you, no worries Ruan, just go for it!!❤ love your videos, wish we lived closer as we would be the best of friends 😊
The colours of these fabrics look so gorgeous together. I made a bright pink nova coat last year and love wearing it, especially on dark dreary days! Look forward to seeing all your makes :)
OMG that Lise Tailor fabric for the Marnie is so gorgeous. It is amazing viscose to work with and agree with suek7086 that the fabric should speak for itself- no frills or tucks necessary. As for your German fabric ❤❤❤. Cannot wait to see all your makes seeing specially the coat. I see a bright and pink winter ahead - clever. ( I managed to squeeze a Davenport out of my BTPD fabric and am really happy despite feeling a flump atm.) Happy Sewing😊
Oooh great colour coordination, love that colour pink. I've just made the Nova coat and added a hook hoop. I also added rib cuffs inside the sleeves as the sleeves are a bit wide. Not sure that makes any sense but I've got pics on my IG and youtube. Love your plans 🌼
Great plans Ruan, if you have enough material, do the frills on the marnie, like you say you can always take them out if you don't like them., and if you were ever to do frills , viscose ids the way to go because they will be more subtle 😊
Amazing colour theme & look forward to seeing them made up. In respect of the Marnie I would suggest you leave it plain as the fabric is so beautiful & speaks for itself. Love all your fabric choices - good luck Ruan😊
Oh my days that floral pink and the pink wool are stunning,,,,,but then all the fabric you showed were lovely…can’t wait to see the finished coat….think it will look fabulous 😊
Yes! Totally agree about being overwhelmed by too many plans 🫣. Also need to make the Nova, the pattern of which I have had for years, but I keep making the easy Fibremood Luz instead… I think I have a problem 🤦♀️😬. Love the fabric for the Nomi especially, that will make a stunning dress! 😍
I think you should leave it as simple as possible - the fabric is so vibrant it doesn't need any tucks or flounces. Some great projects - I love all your pinks. I'm making the Nova coat at the moment. I did a toile and it was very straight forward but I didn't do the lining... then I shelved it for 10 months and just picked it up again about a month ago. I wanted red but in the end chickened out and went for a dark blue. But I love your pink - it's awesome.
Your plans sound lovely.. Good thinking making them all go together.. I'm a bit of a scatterbrain when I sew..I will now try harder to buy stuff that goes together.. Always so happy to see your vlogs..
Your fabric choices are just gorgeous. I love the idea of the pink coat with that beautiful lining and those colours are just stunning on you. I wouldn't make the marnie too fussy, there is a lot of detail in the fabric already.
Love all your plans Ruan, such beautiful fabrics. Look forward to seeing them all made up. I'm loving the Nova coat too, so many amazing versions keep popping up. The fabric you've chosen is awesome, THAT colour! The only thing I'd say (if you don't mind me butting in to your designs!!!) is that if you choose that particular lining, it might clash badly with all the patterned fabrics you wear? The ones you've chosen do look amazing against the wool colour.
Love that first fabric. Be careful cutting it out. From what I could see, it may be directional. You said the flowers were hard to see, but I immediately thought you were holding it upside down. Colours look superb on you.
OMG Ruan, I have just finished my Nova coat tonight! My first coat ! You’ll need to size down. The instructions are crazy, I don’t know how it came together but when I turned it through the lining , hey presto it appeared. I don’t know how the sleeves got there safely, ha ha! My friend is making one too with me, I’m one step ahead, blind leading the blind really. It doesn’t have instructions for a hanging loop but you should put one in! Your fabrics for the coat are amazing! Definitely the frill on the Marnie by the way.
Ooo gorgeous plans love the Marnie fabric and the coat fabulous!! Can’t wait to see your makes! I’ve lost my sew Jo at the moment need something to get me back into the swing! God weight! The bane of my life! I feel your pain! I’ve been off on a tangent again but returning to SW this week! Why do I eat rubbish when makes me feel rubbish! Good luck Ruan xxxx🥰🥰
Hi Ruan love your plans the coat will look amazing love the rest of your plans about the ruffles I think the ruffles may be a little too much the fabric is beautiful on it’s own can not wait to see all of your makes Dawn xxx
To frill or not to frill... that is the question 😂😜. I think you should try it and see. Like you say.. you can always take it away if you don't like it 👍. I absolutely love that kind of snake skin pattern and I'm sure will make a beautiful dress 💖. Gorgeous colours together too Ruan and quite a capsule wardrobe 🥰🤗😘
Ruan I love where you are going with your makes. They go so well with your coat choice. I have not braved to sewing a coat yet. To scared to try. I may do one this year. Don't do much sewing for myself always my daughter or granddaughters. I have not got button holes down yet and been sewing for 50 years. I am looking forward to seeing your makes when done.
I lurch from scatter gun approach to analysis paralysis! 😂 love your choice of fabrics and colours although I'm more of a plains girl, I'll live vicariously through you! I'm loosely following the 'Zoe App' idea, just healthier choices, slowly changing my diet and losing weight and feel much better for it, good luck xx
Your fabrics are so beautiful,I bet you won’t be able to stop sewing until the capsule is done!!! And ps, your hair colour is sooo complimentary to your colouring.
Absolutely lovely fabric The easiest way to loose the weight is just cut out sugar I’ve dropped from a16 to 12 in about 2months I eat fish and chips Pizza pies all with no sugar not every day of course but I’ve not cut them out Also drink plant based milk no sugar in them at all Good luck xx❤️❤️❤️❤️
Everything looks amazing. Those fabrics and your choice of patterns will be beautiful!! And what a glorious range of colors for the fall and winter! ❤❤ I know what you mean about your jersey dress stretching from the weight. I purchased a blue and white ITY a year or two ago. It is so heavy! I found an ITY ready made at a local thrift shop. So glad I did. The dress IS too heavy for me to wear comfortably. No idea what to use this fabric for. I just had to have it and now . . . I don't know what to make with it!😂
I am a yo-yo as well. I feel everything you were saying! I just made my first coat, the Opium from Deer and Doe. I love your fabric choices and how they make a beautiful theme for a capsule.
Great plans! I love my two Marnies and recently made the Jarrah with the split sleeve (one tie version and one high low version - both great!). I need to be more into colour matching like you. Very tempted to get my colours done.
I have made the the Nova coat twice now once for me with dark grey wool will a lighter coloured lining. Then one for my daughter which was black with bright pink lining. Seeing your colourful combination makes me want to make another one, I have some cobalt blue wool in my stash just need to find some striking lining. It’s a wonderful pattern but as others have said it’s oversized but that’s part of its charm
Love your plans Ruan - that coat is going to be awesome! I made the Nova but some years ago now and I think before the pattern was rereleased. I was much smaller then but it still fits me now as so much ease - so you’ll be fine x
You are speaking my language with the yoyo and the magpie. I too do feel in a flump at the moment 😕 and it put me off sewing a bit as I don't want to make something that won't fit when I lose weight (she says haha). But I too need to be in control of what I eat more. I hear every word you are saying Ruan. You've got this! Great capsule choices, you will look banging! Lisa 🇦🇺 x
OMG those fabrics are soooo my colours. I’ve made the Nova coat. I got the paper pattern in the larger size range ( now I would need the smaller size range- wish I’d got the pdf 🤦♀️) anyhooo. Love it. Tips make the pockets 6 inches deeper they were very shallow my phone kept falling out. There’s a good sew along in 2 parts as the instructions made no sense to me at one point - I will find it and drop it in x
I made the nova coat and it's a super easy one. I love wearing it. I think because the armhole is so big you can get away with lining it with viscose, I lined mine with a cotton lawn and it works fine. Love all your fabrics and how they coordinate
I have just made the Nova coat and I am so pleased with it. It was lovely to sew. I chose a colour similar to yours and get so many complements. It does come up large so you may want to size down.
Looking forward to seeing these your plans made up. I’ve made the Nova Coat. It’s a great pattern and super simple for a coat. However I sized down two sizes and I wish I’d gone down another size or even two more.
OOH I love all your plans. That coat is going to be amazing 😍😍.As pretty on the inside as the outside, you would be tempted to wear it inside out. I love the fibre mood sweater and funnily enough 😂 I squirrelled away some of the exact knit fabric for myself whilst listing remnants to the website last week ...may need to copy your plan. What a beautiful winter capsule...right up my street too
Ooh, so excited for the Nova Coat reveal and review! 😆 I really fancy it but don’t have much experience in sewing outerwear. It’ll be interesting to hear your opinion 💞
I've been wanting to make the Nova coat for some time. I even have the wool in my stash! I'm going to do it! Just need to buy the lining. Let's have a sew along. Suzanne
Hi, I’ve made the nova coat and love it, it’s a great pattern and is going to be fabulous with your fabric choices. It comes together quick but needs concentration. There is a sew a long on you tube for it that I found good. I’ll look it up if your interested although you probably won’t need it. I’m just about to make my first Marnie and excited to see how it turns out! If it’s good on me I’m going to make it in last months BTPD sewscription fabric 😊
Hi Ruan, I made the Nova Coat back when it was the Sapora I think it was called, loved it, it was the first coat I had attempted and it turned out great, the only thing I did different was the sleeves, with the coating I used the sleeves where just to big and stuck out a bit, so I cut a smaller sleeve just narrowing it slightly just under the armhole, I wear it a lot and I think you will love it.
Hi from NZ. I’ve made the Nova coat twice and would recommend cutting out with a 5/8 seam allowance. The pattern has a 1cm allowance and this isn’t enough to make nice pressed seams in heavy wool. Also I have the same Lise Tailor viscose - I’m thinking of the Marnie now too. Love your videos.
I just made the Nova coat. I dozed down 2 and could size down again. The next time I make it I need to extend the sleeves. It’s great otherwise. Super easy coat to make.
Great fabrics and makes to come. I just made the Wimbourne coat but I'm not a lover. The sleeves needed a good 4cm on as I found them super short. I didn't like the collar part of the band that goes all around the front edge, it feels like it needs to be turned over as the depth is very deep but when you try it that way then it looks stupid. I wish I'd made a coat that fastened now. It's like an over sized sack. 😢
Love your vlogs Thankyou Ruan i have my sewjo back. I was feeling a little down because i have put on so much weight. This made me not want to sew sew for the last 2 months. I am going to make a pinafore dress which i can alter if i/ when i loose weight. I think the Marnie blouse in that beautiful viscose without the frills will look great. Xx
Absolutely love your plans, especially the Lyra and the Nomi - they’re both a bit of me! You’ve got a really good mix of difficult and easier makes so you can alternate.
Wonderful plans as usual, thank you for sharing! Totally understand your reasoning... I have planned/batch cooked my entire november dinners to put me back on track. I have few fabrics that I don't want to cut and patterns I don't want to use until I am in a better shape. I am currently making my 4th Dorothie blouse by slow sunday because it's pretty relax for the "problematic" areas😅.
