This will work for any GM / Chevy vehicle (03’-06’ I believe) with this same radio equipped with the XM unit. Doing this should override the CD changer, XM radio and rear entertainment inputs if you have the flip down DVD system. If you wish to use those features disconnect your device from the aux cord and those features should be eligible for use and not be overridden anymore.
Removing the XM harness is not required however I advise you do so in order to clearly see the wires and identify the proper ground wire. You will likely have two black wires. There are multiple ways to accomplish this install. Any wire with two speaker leads and a ground wire can be used. The most common wire would be an AUX cord but an RCA cable can be used too. Even if you just wanted to use regular speaker wire to tap into the wiring harness that’s fine as well. What’s relevant is to use a wire that has the connector you need for plugging in your device. Some people even purchase an AUX input connector piece with open terminal connections on the back. Small gauge wiring is used to tap into the harness and then ran to the terminals on the AUX connector. From there an AUX cord (not modified, cut or spliced) plugs into the AUX connector and then your device. So there’s multiple ways to do this install.
I completely removed the wiring harness to ensure proper connections with solder and identify the right ground wire. I peeled a small part of the wire jacket off, twisted the RCA wires around the exposed speaker + ground wires then soldered. Obviously electrical tape with a little glue was used to cover the connection point. It wasn’t that much more work to pull the harness and I’ll never have to fix the connections. You could also use plastic wire taps instead of soldering. I don’t recommend severing the wires and using wire nuts. It wont turn out right and don’t be a hack.
The Bluetooth unit (Insignia NS-MBTK35) I used was purchased for about $20-30 at BestBuy years ago and is not sold there anymore. I Velcro’d it to the dash to keep it in place and it never needs to change locations. It’s easily reachable to change volume, change music tracks and answer phone calls. It can easily be plugged in and charged as well. I highly recommend you do this install with a Bluetooth module if you have a modern device without a traditional audio output. Wire your cord to the bluetooth module instead of running it to your modern phone. Wireless beats Wired every time. Plus some phones don’t allow you to use an AUX cord and charge your battery at the same time unless you have a special connector.

Give it a go, it’s worth it for sure. I ended up moving the Bluetooth device next to the gear shifter. It’s much easier to reach at that location

Is there an easier way?

Only other way is to purchase a Bluetooth fm tuner/transmitter that plugs into a cigarette lighter port. Your phone connects to the transmitter via Bluetooth and then you set your radio to the same frequency/radio station as you set the transmitter to. Your music will go to the transmitter via Bluetooth and then to the radio from the transmitter via radio waves. Yes it’s easier but they sound terrible with lots of interference. I tried that first and switched to this because the sound quality was so bad I ended up just listening to the radio. Only other option is to buy an aftermarket radio. If you want to keep the factory radio this is the best method. The problem is the factory radio does not have any inputs so you can’t plug anything into it. This method taps into the xm radio input to transfer the music from your device to the radio. If you don’t want to attempt this or you do not have xm radio you’ll need to buy an aftermarket radio.
