So, the harrier supports overclocking... shouldn't it be called the AV-8BK then? 🤔

As a ground school instructor on Boeing a/c's, this is, so far, one of the best cockpit familiarization tutorials I have found on youtube for the DCS Harrier. Thanks for that. Now I still need to learn all the military systems (and abbreviation) you went through and didn't explain in depth. But still a very nice explanation.

This is one of the coolest showcases of VR I've seen yet, so awesome!

This was a great tutorial. The VR style with actual pointing was highly informative. Brightness needs to come up a little though, its hard to see what you are pointing at sometimes.

I got a little chuckle from the DECS explanation. It throttles back your engine so you don't melt it, so now you don't have enough power to land, and you crash and die. We kind of have this in electric RC planes. The ESC will limit or cut your battery output in an attempt to save your battery from overdrain damage, but now you're falling from the sky.

SAS stands for Stability ASsist so it will probably engage reaction wheels to help hold the current heading

In automation, an 'annunciator' panel would be that alarm panel as you called it. So the annunciator illuminating knob must control the brightness of you alarm labels. (not modeled apparently, I watched you turn it while staring at that panel)

Some points for you, if you don't mind my saying: The H2O dump switch vents the 500lb (max) of demineralised water that is injected into your engine with the water switch during takeoff or landing. It pours out of a hole in the main undercarriage bay and soaks anyone working in there. Heheheh..... Your description of the lights panel and its function is all wrong. The 'Form' knob adjusts the brightness of the green flat panel formation lights dotted around the aircraft. They work fine. Position lights are the red and green wingtip and white tail lights. Anti-coll are the top/bottom strobes. (anti-collision) Aux is a small white light on the nose undercarriage leg. The main approach light drowns it out in the sim. SAAHS stands for Stability Augmentation and Attitude Hold System. You're correct that DSL is Depressed SightLine. It's a standby bombing mode. The interval switches are in feet on the ACP. Intervals are not yet implemented. (And I wish they'd hurry that one up....) The VR view with the hand in the presentation was useful, if not pretty. Good vid, but know your subject. :)

Tangible_Zadren no minding at all! It was quite difficult to maintain comprehension on the different functionality of each item as a lot of retakes were required due to stutters and whatnot. I'll definitely keep all this in mind if I ever do a later revision once more systems are in place.

Disembodied glove, both informative and creepy. I miss Cap's voice though: "This one doesn't work so let's move just below that, can't read that one so we don't care. And over to the right we have all these. What do these do Sherman?" "They do fuck all."

This plane is one I really want to get at some point. It'll be a while though as I'm still sorting out other things for the game. I know you mentioned some additions to this tutorial and I for one think it would be nice to see as I imagine this isn't the easiest plane to fly. Thanks for you effort thus far.

good Vid couple things obviously Water dump dumps the water if you need to loose weight tho it is not that helpful, and the rpm switch does not change anything in the engine but causes the tach to display either compressor speeds when set to high or bypass fan speed when set to low. other than that was pretty spot on.

I worked on the AV8A, C, B Night attack and now at the Depot level the AV8B Radar. LIDS Lift Improvement Device Traps the Boundry layer air under the Aircraft causing a greater lift cushion. It doesn't stop air going into the intake!! The Lids and Strakes are made of Composite materials and not metal as in the description. VR is nice but the explanation of some of the cockpit description example DECS not quite right. DECS are 2 separate units that control the fuel and air mixtures to the engine. they are located in the engine compartment. They are redundant so if one fails you switch to the other. They can be adjusted to keep the engine from over temping and increasing the life of the engine, but the ground crew can readjust to a higher performance such as during war time, but this will reduce the life or as we call it High time of the engine.
@robertbridge7678

Formation lights are strips of lights on varies places on the aircraft to assist in formation flying. Pilot has the option to turn off when he doesn't want to be spotted or turn down when his wingman has on NVG Goggles.

@@robertbridge7678 Thanks for the DECS info... I am curious about the Engine RPM switch. It gets mentioned in 2 checklists in the real manual. Lo for initial checks and Hi for engine shutdown. From playing around with it in flight the only effect it seems to have is the RPM readout which seems to go up when on Hi however, things like the Jet temps don't change when they are usually almost tied to RPM and would change if the throttle was used to raise the RPM manually... The engine sound doesn't change either which leads me to believe that it is just calculating the same engine RPM with a different multiplier or something and not impacting the actual engine in any way. Any information would be greatly appreciated as the llack of info in the manuals has been bugging me!

How do you find using both the Touch hand controllers and Joystick, especially during busy 'combat' environments? I only ask as it would seem quite clunky to switch between the touch controller and a full HOTAS set up (I have a Thrustmaster X-55) when you could use a mouse in lieu of the Touch controllers. Very cool video though, thanks!

So... do you drop the VR controllers when you fly and grab the joystick/throttle? Or do you somehow fly with the VR controllers? As someone who is REALLY wanting VR, I am confused by this.

Hi, I'm looking to buy a new aircraft in DCS. my options are the Harrier and the ka-50 + f-15 (same price in total). One of my friends is saying that the Harrier is bad because a lot of systems aren't implemented and it's really bugy. What is your opinion about this?

Funny thing is year ago i asked a real fighter pilot at an air shot to explain some buttons. He turned it some nonsense techno jargon that didn't have to do anything about the plane. Then telling me it's too complicated for me to understand.

Is that hand from VR with the controllers? I tried VR when it was first released but I didn't dream of trying the controllers because why would you. It works pretty well here though, and utterly hilarious to see for the first time.

they work really well, implementation in DCS isn't great though. Which way flips up or down is pretty random from switch to switch and it changes if you come at it from another angle.

Doesnt the H2O dump switch drops the water cooling of the plane?
@lovecchio420
@lovecchio420 6 лет назад
it's for the pilot, its spritzes a cool mist in case you get really hot. In the British harrier it dispense a nice cuppa.
@letome1676
@letome1676 6 лет назад
The H2O coolant is probably cold tea being heated up by the engine (aka kettle) and later dispensed along with biscuits and Her Majesty’s portrait.

Silly us. Seems this switch dumps the "H2O" if connecting your Willie Nelson to the "Jettison Airplane" system. Clever design by the brits, allowing you to carry on a sixpack or two alongside other armaments. However, the manual reads: 'Caution should be exercised - a lot'. Don't mention it. ^^
