Thanks for watching and commenting and I appreciate the suggestion. This tutorial is a sample from an online course (www.alpinetutorials.com/mountainsafety) so it doesn't quite have all the context here, like recommending taking an avalanche course. Elsewhere in the course videos, it does repeatedly advise this, however. That's great that you've done AST-1 & AST-2, but a shame it has left you without the confidence to go off piste. Those courses should at least give you enough information to understand where and when it is safe to go off piste - if they've just put you off altogether then it leaves much to be desired!

The critical bit is how far apart the anchors are spaced. Only when they are densely spaced do they help. If they are too far apart, they become more harm than good. But if densely spaced, for example in a forest, they decrease avalanche likelihood
