Thanks for leaving this comment cause that actually was one comparison I wanted to do but didn’t have time to get done (mainly couldn’t find a big beautiful house). Pinning this with the hope that anyone interested in fly throughs sees your comment cause that is definitely one of the Avata 2‘s strengths. I’ve gotten indoor drone shots before with other Mini drones and the Mavic Air, but you’re right - it’s always a bit sketch, even with the prop guards.
I own both and can say I apples and oranges .. each have their pros and cons but together they are a killer combo. I take cinematic shots and kind of scan area of filming for potential hazards with m4p then come in avata 2 for the proximity flying and crazy shots you see online 🎉
I’d agree with you there - that was one of the reasons I started the video by saying that they basically have nothing in common. And if everyone could get 2 drones I 100% agree that they do make a great pair as they both offer very different capabilities. Safe flying out there and thanks for the comment 🤙
I love my DJI mini 4 pro so much I went out and brought an Avata 2 as well so that should do for a bit. I'm just waiting on a good enough day to get them up at the same time, see how that goes. Retirement might be more fun than I was thinking 😜🚁
I own a Mini 4 pro, its one of my favourite purchases. Turned me into a whole DJI fanboy. I love flying it and its incredibly smart with its 6 obstacle avoidance cameras
I am looking to get my first drone and was wondering if I should get Mini 4 pro or the Avata. This video made it pretty clear that Mini 4 is the one for me. I like how you explained whether one drone can play the role of another. It seems Mini 4 can play an FPV whne need to an extent but an FPV drone can't really become your memory capture camera in the air. FPV is more for the experience of flying. Mini 4 pro is about a good quality camera that can fly.
Excellent evaluation! As others have mentioned, I own both. I've been in this hobby for 45 years, flying quadcopters since they first came out (Flamewheel 450 anyone?). You summed it up nicely when you stated the Mini 4 Pro is a flying camera; the Avata 2 is an aerobatic FPV drone. Both can do a little of each, but they are specialized for their specific purposes. One note: The Avata 2 price includes the Goggles; the Mini 4 Pro price does not. So if you want to fly the Mini 4 Pro with the Goggles 3, you'll need to fork over another $500 or so.
Avata 2 and Mini 4 Pro are different tools for different purposes ... they both have their value ... Avata2 is aimed at very close and tight spaces shooting whereas Mini Pro 4 is better all around ... me personally I have an Air 3 and the Avata2 ... and they both are distinctively functional and valuable to me. When people get caught up in comparisons to try to buy ONE it all comes out to not enough money to buy both :)
I do own both, also Air 3 and Avata 1... I do think the Avata 2 camera is very good, it's the same as the Action 4 camera. Much bigger sensor than on the Mini 4 Pro. It can do 4K100fps and so on.
It’s definitely a better camera than the original Avata 1, however the Avata 2 and Mini 4 Pro use basically the same sensor (could actually be the same OV48C unit just with the quadbayer feature enabled for 48mp mode in the Mini 4 Pro) - though with a different lens and processor combo. Both can shoot 4K/100fps but the Avata 2 tops out at 130Mbps while the Mini 4 Pro can record 150Mbps (and notably with 10bit color).
Thanks man. This is the video I was looking for, was in torn between the m4p and a2 altho my wife was leaning more towards a2, I was more into the slow, cinematic feels of it all. M4p for sure, plus after more than an hour of watching non stop fpv videos, I was motion sick and almost threw up..
Thanks! I actually was inspired to update the spreadsheet cause of your comment so now it also has the new Neo as well as a secondary spreadsheet with just the current drones for those trying to compare buying options.
Very useful and well done video thanks. One important feature is lowest latency with Goggles 3. With Avata it is 24ms (1080p/100fps). How about Mini 4 Pro ?
well one is a fly around and the other is a FPV. price difference is only $250. i got the mini 2 se and love it. would like the avata 2. would be fun. dont know what this almost ddi ban will do.
Is this a pictures from french Guiana on your desktop in the background? :) Me was editing a documentary about this island. it seems i used a take nearly the same like this. beautiful
Avata 2: In short, It’s all about the flying experience! producing very flowy videos and making you feel like you can fly like a bird. Mini 4 Pro: A portable cinematic flying camera which is amazing for both video and stills - more versatile if you had to choose between the two.
Way to perfectly summarize a video that I spent several weeks making in two short paragraphs 😂 But yeah, that’s basically the thesis of this video. Only edit would be I’d say “bee” instead of “bird” because the Avata 2 doesn’t quite have the speed or power of some of the bigger FPV drones out there to really allow you to feel like you’re soaring but can fly through smaller places.
@@DigitalTechReviewsTips 🤣 Maybe, but two short paragraphs are nowhere near as compelling as the video you spent several weeks making. Agreed - Maybe a “Bee” would have been a better analogy - my comment was written late at night when my brain was less than optimal 🤣. Great video by the way.
Ok so I have an original Mavic Pro and was looking at one of these two to add to the mix. I was heading towards the Avata 2 but I think the Mini 4 makes more sense. Is there a set of Google's that DJI make that will work with both the the Mini 4 Pro and my Mavic? If not, what is the best (future proof) set of goggles to buy that would work with the Mini at least?
Yeah I’d say if you liked the Mavic Pro the Mini 4 Pro will be more of a direct upgrade and does make more sense for you. As for Googles that work for both, unfortunately because the Mavic Pro uses the DJI GO 4 App (and an older OcuSync version) it is not compatible with the newer googles used by the Mini 4 Pro. Both the DJI Googles 3 & Googles Integra are compatible with the M4P, but given that they are newer (and more expensive by $146) the Googles 3 are slightly more future proofed.
I came here 99% sure I was going to get the Avada 2. Now I am 100% sure that I don't know what the hell to get. Looks like another year without a drone for me LOL😅 I'm a photographer, and I definitely want to step up my aerial game. It sounds like the mini 4 is the right drone for what I want to do, but I am an absolute noob to drone piloting. I'm legit going to un-alive myself if I explode my drone on day one.
Sorry for the added confusion haha. I don’t know your situation 100% but from the little you just described the Mini 4 Pro would be a great match. And they’re honestly not that hard to pilot. If you want to start out with a more affordable option maybe look at the new Neo from DJI. It’s super limited but it’ll get you in the air and practicing flying for less than $400.
That’s weird, I get my mini 4 pro up to 86mph according to my remote. Doesn’t accelerate super fast which is why I was considering the Avata 2. Any of you experience the same??
Pretty sure that’s a glitch. I haven’t experienced the same myself, but I know a friend as well as several people online that’ve had a similar issue. Usually it’s like 96mph or 100mph. Ultimately I think it’s just a DJI Fly App conversion issue so just reset. Maybe try switching between imperial and metric first if that changes anything.
@@DigitalTechReviewsTips I appreciate the response and yes I had a feeling something was up or mine was defective in a good way lol. I’ll give that a try, i appreciate it
Unfortunately no. The FPV drones require either an FPV RC Controller or Motion Controller. However the new Neo can be flown with basically any combination of current controllers.
always thought that normal drone videos were great and that is the new standard, amazing view from a new angle, dont need a helicopter etc etc... then I saw how people film with avata 2, the angles and the motion they get, (if you can find them on youtube where they beam around the coastline etc) - it makes all the other drone footage looks nearly static and extremely boring to me now while avata shots look like a mini fighterjet buzzing around... cant even compare
I had the mini 4 pro I bow I have the avata 2. I wanna get the mini 4 pro again because I can’t do the stuff I want to do with the avata. And vice versa so each drone has its own use.
Very true. I mostly like the Mini 4 Pro for the type of videos and I shoot, however, once in a while I do wish I had the Avata 2 with me. It really all comes down to personal preference/What do you intend on using the drone for.
I really wish I found this ahead of time. I was always interested in FPV's but didn't know there is no follow features for Avata 2. Now with goggles and motion controller supporting Mini4 Pro, thats the killer combo that anyone can go for. Unless you have a future plan to play with manual mode (which you require a different controller), I would say go with Mini4 Pro. The drive time is not more than 7-9 min, so it takes lot of batteries/recharges to get better.
Manuals are for nerds…and apparently also for people who want to know how to actually use all the features of their drone. Good eye and thanks for sharing the tip with anyone else who’s an idiot like me.
Nope, it’s actually tracking you via the camera so doesn’t rely on the remote’s location. But I almost always have mine in hand when using active track (and recommend others do as well) cause it can be unpredictable at times and being able to grab the controls at a moments notice could be the difference between a crash and not.
Will almost definitely be the DJI Neo sometime in the next few weeks. After that the only possible ones we’ll see in 2024 are the Mini 4 or the Air 3S but nothing is confirmed in any way.
Thanks for the video. I'm just getting started (awaiting my 1st drone on its way) and will be looking into licensing once I study the required materials/rules. I reached out to someone I know from high school who works with drones for guidance on best practice/ study guides... Nada! So, if anyone has any non-controversial advice, I'd appreciate it.
I have my part 107 and work with drones as well, we had a 1.5 day internally done class where we basically went through a practice test booklet and looked at all the questions and then I studied on my own time for one more day after that again with the books practice questions, I believe I got an 85 or so on the test
⬆️ This ⬆️ is actually a really good point. I guess I missed it cause I was more focused on seeing which was better, but if anyone out there is planning on getting both, technically this is the cheapest way to go - especially if you get the Mini 4 Pro drone only and fly only with the Motion Controller and goggles. But also, not everyone needs or has the money for two drones. Still appreciate you dropping the knowledge.
That’s very true and especially notable when comparing it to other FPV drones that often are incredibly modular and repairable. However, when compared to the Mini 4 Pro, they both can’t be worked on so I decided not to mention it.
The Avata 2 can shoot in 4:3 (which is almost square) and then you can crop in that footage for vertical video, but does not have a true vertical mode like the Mini 4 Pro does.
Totally agree. I literally start my video by saying that. But tons of people kept asking about which of these two to get in forums online so I decided to make a video about it regardless of how different they were.
Apologies about that 😂 but I’m also partially speaking from my own personal experience so don’t worry you’re not alone. I’m thinking of starting a support group Drone-aholics Anonymous.
That is very true. The Avata is definitely built tougher. However, I’ve crashed the Mini 4 Pro a couple times with no big issues. Granted, both times was not flying very fast and not hitting pavement but still, it’s durable due to how lightweight it is. But yeah, you have a good point with the cost of the M4P + Goggles being like $700 less than the Avata 2. However, it could be a good way for someone to try out “FPV” style flying (at least where the goggles are concerned) and then upgrade to the full Avata 2 drone if they like it.
I 100% agree (and that’s also a nice metaphor for this comparison I might add) but I was seeing the same question of people trying to decide between these two drones pop up in DJI forums over and over again so I decided to make a video nonetheless.
@@DigitalTechReviewsTips Well, its relatively easy advise the following way: "If you dont exactly know that you definitely want an Avata 2 for FPV squeezing through stuff kind of shots, get a gimbal drone like the Mini 4 Pro, Air 3 or Mavic 3 Pro first unless you already have one". This is true for both consumers and professionals.
Haha yeah maybe “gadget” would have been a better word cause it’s definitely more advanced than a toy. Just doesn’t quite have the utilitarianess of the Mini 4 Pro.
Don’t blame you. I’m kinda the same when it comes to trying to decide between two cameras/drones. Sorry this image quality comparison isn’t as good as some of my other ones - was really hard to compare the Avata 2 & Mini 4 Pro with the massive difference in FOV between the cameras.
