let me share this thought too; as the Fire Empire tried to subjugate their own masses and the peoples of other nations and the nations fought back, the chains of events weren't peaceful, in fact, it was very bloody, unlike what happened in EDSA, where people, some of them were even passer-by just got stranded. 2nd, if we really are "free" thanks to the "Revolution", then why are we still economically and socially subjugated by local political overlords and corporatocratic and global elites - unlike in the series like in Korra's time when people (from all nations) are depicted to be individually free and individualistic - unlike in our Filipino setting when we are more like fanatic pawns for political parties and candidates - not thinking about our real liberty to be just free from being controlled by local overlords - when our sociopolitical climate speaks the total opposite. 3rd, the people in the series depict different forms of societies and cultures with different perspectives in life, not about people from different walks of life and cultures wanting to eliminate their national identities to establish a "new society". 4th, if Marcos really was a "fascist dictator" like what the woke Left falsely correlates him to Hitler, He would never have cared for the safety of those who were on the Avenue, he would just have ordered violent dispersals like what happened in Tiananmen Square in 1989, to keep him in power - just like how the Fire Empire brutally subjugated all other nations and even their own people to keep Emperor Ozai in power. these are my honest thoughts.
I was grade 6 when EDSA People Power happened. As people in Manila faced tanks and guns with rosaries, flowers, and prayers, the rest of the nation gathered in our own localities in prayers as moral support to those in Luzon. At that age, I learned by what I saw how the Filipino felt about the Marcoses. I’m still at awe how the Philippines is where it is now. The 180 turn is mind boggling to me. With only 2 leading characters of People Power left alive, madame is laying low and the centenarian seems to have changed the narrative about it. When/where did it change, Kirby?
Thank you for sharing your personal experience and reflections on such a pivotal moment in Philippine history. It's important to remember and honor those who stood up for democracy.
I love how you combined your favourite show/movie with history. I always do the same when relaying Filipino history to my curious non-Filipino friends so they would understand better
Hello Mr. Kirby. I appreciate your inputs to our history. It really enriched of what I already know. May I suggest a topic for you to dive in. This is crimes committed by the US soldiers before and after ww2. This is relevant because of the possible presence of a big number of US troops on our soil. I hope you give a positive reply to this. Big thanks in advance.😊
This period of the People Power revolution was the only time I saw our grandfather (who is famously stoic) kneel down and pray with tears in his eyes for a peaceful resolution. The alternative - civil war - was so scary. We lived in Baguio a short drive to the Philippine Military Academy. Since television and radio reception was spotty it was truly frightening.
Don't get me wrong, I watched the original animated series. And Fire Lord Ozai, who proclaimed himself "Phoenix King", was defeated by Avatar Aang at Oolong Forest. He then was replaced by his son Zuko, who sacrificed his life to defeat his sister Azula for the throne, and the Fire Nation entered a new era.
Legend of Korra Season 1also mirrors the struggle of the current political climate of our country with the narrative of Nepotism, Corruption, and Racial Stigma.
Edsa revolution is the most beautiful bayanihan Filipinos ever did in history every one is hero of peace and soldiers of equality and democracy. 🎗 the chill it gives when you know the whole story it was actually ordinary people who made the oppression over and give freedom to the nation without violence and blood. Just unity. A real one.
I go for pocahontas. If avatar is for people democracy but the ecosystem is very important for us that the freedom to live in natural world which is spiritual of living things connected to its spirited nature just to live peacefully towards it.
The EDSA revolution is a poor example for peace, because there were violence that did happened and those protestors and liberals did bombed the presidential palace and committed to assassinate the President and the first family. The people from EDSA were far from being peaceful, they mostly antagonized the government and the military. Instead of the EDSA revolution you could have made an example what people like Mahatma Gandhi, and President Nelson Mandela made an example of justice and peaceful nonviolent. Especially what President Nelson Mandela’s journey and his struggles why he was at Robin Island and how his time at Robinson Island had only prepared him for his come back as President of South Africa.
exactly! the post EDSA events weren't even pro-liberty nor it exemplify the virtue-signaling dramas of so-called "peace and democracy" neither, in fact, repressed opposition, and oppressed the farmers, small business owners, and the working classes na gustong yumaman at giginhawa sana'y mas naghihirap after the EDSA event, hmm the Irony.
i happen to recall watching a VCR titled BLACK PROPAGANDA 1990. we were in manila participating the rally, i was just 3 years old. this is too cliche in todays standards enough for it to Sus as a watcher im entitled to get facts and dig deeper.
Because of the failed system called the "1987 constitution" which gave powers to the corporatocratic elites who were and are still loyal to the Leftist cause, and not really the people.
Ano po dapat yung truth? Can you give us documentation, reports, etc that will prove you are right? Wala naman ako nababasa or nakikita. Curious lang din ako sa kung ano ba ang katotohanan jan.
@@francoq2768 At that day/time there was no plan for a rally or any type of gathering. Even the uprising wasn't planned. It was a reaction to Marcos about to arrest Enrile. He went from his home in Forbes and holed up in Aguinaldo. Right across in Camp Crame, Ramos decided to join. The two security details of Enrile and Ramos knew each other. When word got out of what was about to happen, that's when people started gathering in EDSA. It wasn't planned.
Bruh leave kurbi alone. You can't help a historian to connect the dots and make similarities. If you aren't comfortable with his content then feel free to skip.
I agree, though the Avatar series may have some hidden messages regarding the sociopolitical climate of this world - but Woke Marxist people have been falsely correlating it with their so-called "Social class struggle and revolution". the social climate in the Avatar series only shows people from different walks of life and different nationalities preserving their own identities and cultures. and then also falsely correlating Marcos to Hitler and Emperor Ozai who were real-time serial mass murderers.
And now I am living in era where misinformation affect the unity that EDSA people power built. People who stood up for truth were villainized. Is the machinery of the villains are to blame? Or should we look at the ignorant people who didn’t gave a damn for people’s sacrifice before. Information is now conveniently available everywhere but we’re taking it for granted.
