That would be funny, but that's only one of many tests and obviously they would discover pretty quickly that they weren't the avatar. I'd totally love to see an "Avatar" who is friends with the real Avatar, and wants to be famous and the real one doesn't. So they agree to help the fake Avatar fool everyone. The real Avatar gets to help people and not have to deal with people, and the fake Avatar gets the glory and fame but also helps the real Avatar train, learn, and cope with the pressure. I think it could be a cute story for a 1st season of a show and in the finale for the 1st season his secret is let out. Maybe they think they defeat the big bad, and then at the last second while they celebrate he jumps back up (classic bad guy move...) and the real Avatar steps up and saves everyone in plain view! It could be a Avatar/Smallville hybrid where the main character tries to save people and keep a secret at the same time!

Oh my god. I just realized something. When Aang goes into the avatar state, it gives him the power/help of his past lives. That means when he ran away and went into the avatar state, Avatar Roku’s spirit froze him in ice since he knew that Sozin and his army was coming!

@sillychotu
@sillychotu 3 года назад
@@lonebattledroid4474 that definitely was a big downside of korra. They took the spirits, who are supposed to have a natural feel, and they took that whole natural feel, threw it out the window, and said “LaZerS”. Before that the spirits were mysterious, their power wasn’t something they could shoot out their bodies, but it was the natural things they controlled. I also didn’t like how Raava was allowed to roam free while Vaatu was locked up. It distracts from the whole balance thing of it all. Why is Raava allowed to roam while Vaatu isn’t? Too much good, too much order, ISNT good. That’s why the red lotus wanted to change everything to disorder. There was too much light, and no room for the dark. And dark is usually what leads to the light. There can’t be any peace without both good and bad, cause otherwise there is no balance. Sorry for the rant TLOK season 2 gives me many mixed feelings. But overall it was still a great show in my eyes, even though it wasn’t as good as ATLA
@lonebattledroid4474
@lonebattledroid4474 3 года назад
@@sillychotu I don't think evil is necessary for peace. I mean it would be like allowing Ozai to do his thing for balance and the Story of Avatar is about a battle of good vs evil. I think Chaos is important since it allows nature to flourish. If they still wanted to make Raava good and Vaatu evil they could've made Raava the spirit of the Earth and Vaatu was a dark reflection of her negative thoughts and emotions.

When Raava says “I will be with you for all your lifetimes”, it’s implied that Waang would have reincarnated without Raava anyway. This agrees with Buddhist spirituality, as everyone (not just the Dalai Lama or bodhisattva) reincarnates. Perhaps Raava just carries the ability to bend all four elements and the morality alongside Waang’s “spark of life” traveling from body to body.

I disagree. If that were true, Korra wouldn't have been able to Airbend after she and Raava got separated. We see her Airbend to get inside the Tree of Time. And that was when Tenzin showed her the tree after losing Raava.
@juddorenvandiirn8342
@juddorenvandiirn8342 3 года назад
K-Rhynn Cyrhyss Wan learned the four elements without Raava, so I agree. The lion turtles energy-bent him into being able to control them. I believe everyone has the capacity to bend, just like in Star Wars everyone is technically force-sensitive (look up midichlorians if you’re interested, might be spelled wrong). Iroh adapted many techniques from other bending arts. You can see him adopt earth ending stances and even use waterbending techniques to perfect lightning bending and redirection.
@Pantherblack
@Pantherblack 3 года назад
First of all: thank you, not enough people make the connection that reincarnation already happens for every creature. But I think that what differentiates normal mortal reincarnation from the Avatar is the memories--everyone reincarnates, but only the Avatar gets to pull up their memories and even personality from previous lives, thanks to Raava. She was the one unbroken thread between lives and when Vaatu broke that thread, the connection to the past was lost.

@cpukabuto2132
@cpukabuto2132 4 года назад
I believe they're referring to the bending practiced by Combustion Man and the one chick from the Red Lotus. With the forehead tattoo and no arm movement. I always thought of it as a style of firebending inspired by airbenders, like how redirecting lightning is inspired by waterbenders. Hope this clears stuff up. :)
@natt07048
@natt07048 3 года назад
Nope. The way i understood combustion bending is that it's super compressed heat that rapidly expands. Note how combustion benders contract their stomach (where the fire chakra is located) before they shoot out explosive projectiles. So it's like super focused and compressed firebending. What Zuko did was basically just a failed attempt of lightning bending, since he didn't have any peace of mind.
@natt07048
@natt07048 3 года назад
@Katie nope i don't think it is. I think it's just tattoo to mark their light chakra. Just like how master airbenders tattoo themselves. I think combustion bending is a highly specialized art performed only by a select few who's been passing this technique on. I believe any fire bender can perform this, I'm just not sure about the details if some firebenders have more potential than others to learn. That's just my take tho and it's what make sense to me. Your theory might be right.

Random theory on that: to go with the idea that the bending ability comes from the human half of the spirit and the knowledge/memories comes from the Raava half, perhaps the avatar state is basically the wall between the two being removed, thus the Avatar having access to all the bending power and knowledge, therefore dying in this state damages or even outright kills Raava's half of the spirit since it is most human at this time. Basically the Raava half of the spirit is most exposed and therefore vulnerable during the Avatar State. So much so that it can be harmed or destroyed. Another way of looking at it is that in the Avatar State the human gets more access to Raava's godliness, but Raava shares the human's vulnerability... If that makes sense.

You have to wonder how weird it must have been to be the first Avatar after Wan. Like, Wan died alone from what we saw and even if he didn't, we don't know if anyone else could have heard what Raava said to him, so I doubt anyone knew about the fact that there would be a reincarnation at that point. Which meant you presumably just had this little air nomad kid who was just growing up completely normal...until they just suddenly started bending water.

I always assumed they were for the most part the same person but were changed via their upbringing. Aang was raised as a monk so he is more peace loving and pacifistic. While korra found out she was the avatar at a younger age and was raised to be a bit more free-willed. And their bending talents varied due to that in some ways. Aang was an air bender raised to be peace loving so bending like water and air came naturally to him. They are built on moving with the element rather then forcing it. While earth which requires a bit more stubbornness was harder and fire which was believed to require Fury and control was also hard for him. Also him hurting Katara resulted in him developing a fear if it. Where as korra was a little bit more less structured. She was allowed to develop a somewhat more selfish personality that allowed her to be a little more stubborn and proud, which gave her the willingness to embrace what it takes to bend other elements. That stubbornness also made it difficult for her to air bend because that element is essentially the antithesis of stubbornness and Pride.

I think all spirits reincarnates. Just Raava hitches a ride to the next body. I know Raava keeps the avatar from reincarnating into anything but human to better relate and be the bridge as Avatar Yangchen explains. I also believe that avatars subconsciously over compensate for the past avatar's sort comings or regrets. Korra is over enthusiastic and bold to make up for Aang's too Methodical ways. Aang is Methodical to make up for Roku's indecisiveness. Roku is indecisive to not be as brash as Kyoshi. Kyoshi is straight to the point and no nonsense to make to make up for Kuruk's arrogance and too laid back ways. Kuruk is laid back and arrogant to compensate for the fact Yangchen was too diligent as a avatar, she chose enlightenment over humanity she had nothing to tether herself to humans and she could not relate to them to be a proper bridge.

I don't think they have a core. One of the beautiful things about Avatar is that despite them most likely having a destiny they need to forfill they don't nessesarily have to follow the "simple" path to that destiny. Them having their own personality and believes is what seperates them and makes them more suited to the world they live in not the other way around. They are molted by how the world is through their own experiences and can thereby mold the world in they way they see fit. The destiny is like the clouds. They might not be able to remove them completly but they it can be changed and "bent" to their will. They have their own free will and that means that they can fail but it also means they can change the world in ways no one else could have ever expected or created without it. I doubt the world would have been that peaceful had Aang actually killed the old firelord because even more of his believers would see him as nothing more than a martyr for them and they would have been even more forceful. Despite all the other Avatar's disagreeing Aang went with his believes and the Firelord wasnt killed. He didn't get a chance to become a Martyr who was fighting the amazing evil Avatar who killed him in cold blood with his overwhelming force! (Cough cough kyoshi cough) No he was nothing more than the weak wanna be king that got defeated and lost to the Avatar. The soul in the Buddhism can be explained easily by comparing your soul to a river. The river will always have the same name even though it's new water that runs through it. Your soul will always be you but you will change with new experiences/water. In fact you're different now than you were when you clicked on this video. That's why the avatar always is different, because they are the same but not. The person Korea was as Aang is a completely different person but at the same time not. I think it's Korra's connection to Rava that makes her capable of remembering specific things from Aang's personal life. She doesn't have his memories because she not him but things like his childhood toys and love for playing stayed with her because that was a core part of who the avatar is.

Hello Future Me Thank you! I think I've actually heard somewhere that the river explanation was something the Buddha used to explain it. ( but isn't like 70% of all quotes not told by the ppl we think said them, then that number would be higher in religion since the Buddhism's holy scriptures were written by all of his closest follower AFTER his death. The bible was written more than hundreds of years after Jesus is supposed to have died so it shouldn't really be seen as containing facts at all. the prophet Muhammed may have been the one to write down what god told him but he couldn't write and it was his wife who wrote everything he retold down to the Koran. The human mind shouldn't possibly be able to retell so much information as it actually was even with so little time between hearing and writing down. I'm sorry if all of that offended anyone. I'm absolutely not trying to offend someone who believes in these scriptures/books. I was just trying to look at it through a scientific point of view. If you believe in the texts then if nothing else it should make you who believe in them be even more in awe because that might mean some godly power helped the scriptures be made correctly because it knew we could do it in our own. As for the version of Buddhism that doesn't believe buddha is a god, it shouldn't matter if the scriptures aren't one hundred percent accurate. They were only supposed to be more like guidelines anyway and he wanted us to find out the meaning in our own. Like he said, it's up to each one of us to find our own way to stop reincarnate and no one can do it for us , not even him so we simply have to appreciate what the texts do teach us and work from there.)

On another point I think that each Avatar had an element that they had challenge with since it goes against how they natural are like aang and earth bending since it mostly rigid and goes against his instinct as a airbending prodigy and Korra with air since air takes patience which she lacked

When Korra was separated from Raava it was unclear whether she retained the ability to bend all four elements. In her ensuing fight with Unavaatu she only did waterbending, which is her birth element. I would say that Raava helped carry the ability to bend more than one element with her so giant blue-spirit Korra was only seen to be waterbending against Unavaatu. So it is likely that through the reincarnation Raava ensures that each avatar will be able to bend all four elements with her help.

It's been proven multiple times that avatars cycle with previous regrets, For example Kyoshi protecting her loved ones the most and being serious about her role as the avatar, which are based on regrets from her previous life, Kuruk, which was laid back, went with the flow, and eventually lost his Loved one, and also died at a young age. From the information we currently have it's just speculations to know if Every single creature / human reincarnates, although we have seen people like Iroh and Admiral Zhao which spent time in the Spirit world instead of a new mortal body, which CAN be explained since Zhao did have a fight with the literal Ocean spirit La, so she may have done something with him, and Iroh is very connected to the ghosts so it's also a possibility that he was able to get his Spirit out of his body, but that's just speculation.

QUESTION: Why does the Avatar cycle end when the Avatar is killed in the Avatar state? Something to do with the connection between Rava and the Avatar being permanently broken? Or is Rava destroyed?
@untapped8776
@untapped8776 5 лет назад
Well, if Wan and Raava together make up the Avatar Spirit, then I assume killing the Avatar in the Avatar State severs that bond of human spirit/ancient spirit. If the Avatar is two spirits as one, then killing one makes it no longer the Avatar spirit. Even if the human spirit reincarnates, it wouldn't have Raava to link it to the other Avatars, effectively ending the cycle.

I think Raava is actually a hive of spirits, we see on "The last airbender" that it is incredible difficult to bend different types of elements at the same time. "To bend the stubborn element you have to impose yourself, be like a rock". I think the avatar learn all the elements but cannot bend them together all at once, he can only do that in the avatar state because his past lifes are thinking like a waterbender, or firebender and so on.

My personal theory about how the current Avatar can speak to previous Avatars is that Raava maintains a direct connection to the spirits of previous Avatars, think of it as like speed dialing, rather than Raava housing their personalities and memories and beliefs inside her and when Unalaq “kills” Raava he severed the link instead of destroying all the spirits of past Avatars, kinda reaching with this theory but I like the thought that instead of all the past Avatars are forever gone now an Avatar has to go into spirit form to find one of their past lives and maybe is guided to them by the spirit of an Avatars animal guide.

A simple way way of explaining the difference between the Buddhist concept of a soul a and the western or "Christian" concept uses two of the elements. The Christian soul, or immortal aspect of an individual, can be represented by water. It fills its mortal vessel ( a vase). If the vase were to break, the water would escape, evaporate and float into the sky. The internal substance of that vase, is the water, without it, it is just a shell. If a Christian soul were to reincarnate, the same substance would be poured into another vessel. The Buddhist soul is a flame. When you pass a flame from one candle to another, the flame moves on to the new wick. Then the flame changes to suit the candle. If it was passed onto a sparkler, it would sparkle, if it was passed to a giant Olympic torch, it would roar up into the sky. Like Aang and Zuko with the sun warriors. They both took flames from the fire gifted to the warriors by dragons, but they presented Ran and Shaw with two very different flames. (Well they would have if they didn't start bickering.)

But didn't LoK say that when Wan was first gaining the ability to bend all the elements that the strain of bending more than one could kill him? And Raavah used her energy to 'protect him' from that strain until he could do it without her. Now, there's no reason to think that Raavah wouldn't continue to serve that purpose with later incarnations. Rather than the different types of bending being something they have to go discover it's now something that they inherently have, but I imagine that there is still some strain on them while they learn mastery over those styles. Raavah could be just a layer of protection for the avatar so that they maintain the capacity to balance the world. Heck Raavah could be part of how Kora survived being poisoned.

Your theory is interesting. I've always imagined that in a world where reincarnation exists, everyone reincarnates (which I see you have a video on, I haven't watched it yet.) and my theory about the Avatar is that rather than having past lives in the traditional sense that everyone else does, the Avatar is, well, an Avatar for other souls. Each Avatar is a new soul, a new person, a new being, added to the amalgamation, and once you're an avatar you are taken OUT of the reincarnation cycle and instead join the other souls who basically linger around for the next Avatar to access. If Avatar Roku, or Aang, or Kyoshi were reborn, they couldn't keep in contact with Korra, and thus their power couldn't help her. So basically I always thought that the Avatar was the only being to NOT be reborn, but instead, once you die as the Avatar, you stay dead and join this... legion... of past avatars... if that makes any sense... I think what really sparked this idea was the part about "if you die in the avatar state, you die permanently." Before learning about Raava, it made sense in that if they kill you in the avatar state, they're killing every soul at once.

I personally have a theory that everyone reincarnates but only the avatar is really able to communicate with their past lives via Raava. With everyone else, it'd be kind of like our world and how there are cultures with Hinduism/Buddhism beliefs regarding the concept. Some may reincarnate as humans, others maybe animals, but unless they're super spiritual (maybe someone like Iroh who could see spirits in the physical world) they could have dreams or vague memories but nothing that could completely mean it's from a past life. But again that's just my theory.

I was saying that as an example. It is vague and they are not avatars but that is showing it is a possibility. I never heard them say in the show they have to be a pure nation to be a certain bender. I don't see it as nations but rather as benders...the avatar is born from benders of the same element the avatar is suposed to be. if per example the next avatar (earth) is born out of an earth bender mother it will not alter his father being a fire bender; he will still be an earth bender 'cause that's the first element he'd develop.

It is my belief that you are making this more complex than it needs to be, however, there are many things in this video that you got right. The Avatar spirit can be similarly compared to the idea of yin and yang. Both subjects are independent, but, also the same. When Wan fused with Raava, it became impossible for him to truly die. In the Avatar world, death is not when the soul leaves the body, but when the soul moves on to the afterlife. With this definition, the idea of meditating in order to send your soul into the spirit world, the reincarnation cycle, and the Avatar spirit as a whole immediately start to come together with few, if any, contradictions. Raava does not die for two reasons: she is a spirit that has no mortal form to begin with, and she is quite literally light itself. This is why the Avatar reincarnates while other people die, because Raava's light spirit cannot die, making the Avatar spirit, the combination of Raava and a human soul, immortal, as you stated in your video. But, what explains how the Avatar's memories are passed on and not their personalities is the human aspect of the Avatar spirit. Raava is light so it is not as if she changes when her "form" gets destroyed, but the Avatar does, because with each new Avatar comes a new physical body with its own set of genes that differentiate it from other humans, however slightly that difference is. To summarize, to ask why each Avatar is not the same would be the same as asking why each Avatar does not look the same. Each Avatar has their own brain, their own body, their own being that gets added to the essence of what the Avatar is; and with each Avatar comes another person with their own knowledge, experiences, and spiritual energy that gets added to the Avatar spirit when the Avatar goes into the Avatar state.

The only thing that adds to the avatar spirit is the knowledge and experience of previous avatars. The spiritual energy is the same because they're all Wan. The avatar state is Raava's power flowing trough the avatar's body. Roku was wrong about the avatar state. The differences between Wan's lives come from the fact that he reincarnated in a different body, with different parents, culture an all the other aspects that form a person's personality. (Sorry about my writing, I'm from Brazil and I'm still learning)

TY_rod I have a question. It was said in ATLA that if the avatar died in the avatar state, then the avatar cycle would end. Does that mean that Ravaa dies? @ashleynl6731
@ashleynl6731 6 лет назад
Ethan Cha Ethan Cha This is my theory but no. As you’ve said we’ve established Raava can’t die. Remember she lived for thousands of years before Wan, always wrestling with Vatuu. My guess is the Avatar cycle ends if killed in the Avatar state because of the vulnerability of the soul. As exhibited when Roku and Wan died, Raava was simply reincarnated into another human. In the Avatar state I think it would expose the soul and Raavas since the Avatar is more spirit than human at that point, thus losing connection with one another. Remember Wan separates her and Vatuu so my guess is if an Avatar gets killed in the Avatar state it’s similar - Raava is severed from the soul. This is kind of displayed in Korra when Raava and Korra get separated at the end of Season 2. When the Avatar is just in their “human” state they’re just like everyone else (besides for the bending) and can die just as easily as normal people. The Avatar state is more spirit than human, because the Avatar is having to draw on their past lives via Raava. Since they’re having to use Raava to do that, it would make sense to me if the soul dies she would be separate permanently.
@GLNZO9
@GLNZO9 6 лет назад
Ok check it, here is my theory... The lion turtle gave wan the ability to bend but..... he also said Rava will hold it as well, until he masters the element. Bending is not spiritual magic, or what nation you are from. Its your spirit using your body's energy to control the elements. It is like the lion turtle said, "before the era of the avatar. we bended the elements with the energy within ourselves" (prob not exact but idc). So with that, remember we are a soul with a body, not a body with a soul. Everything has a spirit which include animals and humans. The spirit can bend as a way to communicate to the earth and its material. Kinda like a video game.... The user (spirit) knows how to play the game but the body (controller) is how we control the elements. The body is the tool. Which is why you cant bend in the spirit world as a spirit. The lion turtles gave the abilities to Wan's spirit. When we die we as humans, ascend to the after life. But Rava does not die. Even she said it herself. She can not kill Vatu anymore then he can kill her. So fusing her to Wan's body took away Wan's ability to go to the afterlife becoming a new spirit. He is immortal in a way as well. But hes normal human spirit is meant to harbor a body. His physical body dies but his spirit (which is now rava and wan as one spirit) but can not past away. Which means the very second he "dies", he continues life but not his mortal body. Which mean to us, starts life over again. But now in a new person with a new conscious. Hint Avatar: "a manifestation of a deity or released soul in bodily form on earth; an incarnate divine teacher". Now the different lives communicating with each other are basically different conscious personalities in the same spirit. Even though you are the same person.... you have a new body. That means the DNA is different because of your parents. So you cant have the same memories. Your new body has a new brain with nothing in it. Unless you, as a conscious physical person, tap into your immortal spirit and talk to yourself from a previous life. So basically the avatars are scenes to Wan's spiritual existence. And when in the avatar state you gain the skills of all the avatars before you. So not necessarily power.... just skill. Because wan was the first avatar, had no help from previous avatars. Just power from Rava and the harmonic convergence. So in a way, they are all really just Wan this whole time just acquired many names in the past 1000 yrs. So when the avatar dies in their standard form as Korra, or Aang, or Kyoshi, they are the embody of the spirit. But dying in the avatar state is bringing the original, fused spirit of Wan up into the physical body of Korra, or Aang (the embodied) and actually dying. Which breaks not only the cycle but the connection between Wan and Rava. Which means Wan actually passes away when Rava was stripped from Korra and "killed". Now Rava can not die but Wan can. Which is why Rava comes back to fuse again (adding the strength of harmonic convergence) So really their are two avatars (three adding Unalaq). And Korra becomes the new start of the avatar cycle. It took a minutes to type this up because my first theory i thought of i debunked myself lol so i hope that makes sense because it was mad hard to explain in words.

Lawrenzo Green I guess you can say that when Rava was ripped out of Korra and beaten that it was a game over for the Avatar. But not the end, just restarting the game. It's still the same soul/player, but all that experience that was acquired is gone. So Korra/Won is starting over from scratch. Which is sad. Aang and the other past Avatars are gone as far as we know. Cause they never get mentioned or brought up at all for the rest of the series after that.

Lawrenzo Green That sounds awesome!! I would be down to watch that. Give me some closure. Because I don't want Aang and the other past Avatars to be gone forever. And it would be great to get the stories of if not all but most of the past Avatars. If the creators can't get it signed on by a network then maybe webisodes could work or I will be cool with a series of graphic novels like they have been doing.

Raava gets ripped out of Korra and "killed" Wan's spirit, which is fused with Raava dies and the avatar loses it's previous consciousnesses from Wan to Aang and when Korra fuses with Raava she becomes the "new" avatar for the second avatar cycle just like Wan when he first fused with Raava, so she'll have to guide the next avatar with the knowledge she got from her past lives, so in a way Korra is both the last avatar and the first avatar (last of the previous, first of the new cycle). Now we also have the dark avatar aswell, we'll have to see what happens when he's reborn aswell, since as we all know Raava and Vaatu are the embodiments of Yin and Yang, they cannot die. I would really love to see this animated. In a way I don't like the thought of Korra being the new first avatar since her rashness has gotten her into trouble and if she advices the next avatar to be more like her than let's say Roku, it'll basically be us watching Korra 2.0 but in a different body doing what she does.

Another example that personality is separate from the soul is the last ep when aang was about to kill sozin. Since aang is linked with raava, she can give him all the past avatars' knowledge, and all of the avatars aang asked said he might have to kill. Right when aang was in the avatar state about to kill sozin his personality stepped in and stopped raava's supply of the knowledge from the past avatars.

I'm just starting to watch the series, on Book 2 at the moment so my interpretation is admittedly incomplete. Anyway, the way I see it is that the state of being the Avatar is like having the key to a locked door. Hence why the current incarnation of the Avatar can go back and forth between the physical and the spiritual worlds where other people (even their own past incarnations) cannot do so without assistance from another entity, like when Sokka got captured by a forest spirit, Roku possessed Aang in order to help him escape the fire temple that one time, or when Admiral Zhao was carried away by the ocean spirit. I guess the idea that the Avatar State is a defence mechanism would explain how the current one can communicate with their past incarnations. Because as the physical body dies the Avatar spirit moves the person's consciousness to the spirit world in order to preserve it? I don't like the idea of the Avatar spirit being innately good. or the idea of there being an evil opposite. I like the idea of the Avatar spirit being an amoral 'thing' like any other, neither good nor evil, and the people who had it in the past took it upon themselves to use it for good.

I like to make certain comparison. Doctor Who's regenerations. The Doctor is one person, certain inherent traits of them passing on from each regeneration to the next. But what's mostly holding them together is memory, knowing who they were and how they were. But they're still somewhat individual people. Now, the Avatar only has a tiny fragment of small memories and direct connection the who they were, but, the same way as the Doctor, part of their essence remain. Korra loosing her connection to her psst lives Is equivalent to the Doctor losing their memories, only knowing who they are from the point of regeneration onwards, and only knowing they're supposed to fullfil a role as The Doctor

The reason why the Avatar reincarnation makes no sense between Legend of Korra and ATLA is that the concepts of what makes an avatar were retconned! Originally the Avatar was meant to be the Spirit of the World, that took a human shape in order to better sympathize with the humans living and all creatures and each life it experiences brought it closer to comprehending humanity and life, as a being, rather than a none corporal force. Which made sense with how each life is an amalgamation of the previous once and how each personality is different and even gender! Also each avatar could access their previous memory of any of their past lives, once they mastered the Avatar State, also made sense why the Avatar will die if killed in the Avatar form, as all the previous lives are channelling their power and knowledge in a single vessel, thus killing the Avatar kills all their past lives and all knowledge start from ground zero! Raava and Vatuu simply threw a wrench into a coherent story, that tried to make sense, but it could not, the Avatar State was Raava's power channelled and not the Avatar and the past lives were simply held as a memory buffer, as it was shown Raava cannot be killed, yet Wan's past lives and memories died once she was disintegrated? Don't like the Raava/Vatuu explanation meh

raava acts like a catalyst, she connects them all to her. it is the simple fact that once raava and wan became one at harmonic convergence they created one spirit that had too different halves. raava cannot die she can only be subdued for a short period of time but even then she’s not dead. so as long as she and one is connected wans spirit must be reborn.

Wan knew Raava because they joined, and I am sure there were many avatars after Wan who spoke with her. However, over 1000 lifetimes the human experiences outshine the one. Even if it is a powerful spirit. Plus, as someone pointed out, Raava would rely on the past avatars to share their stories because Raava wouldn't be able to connect. How could It?
@lifescat9615
@lifescat9615 5 лет назад
I have a theory on that It's about the harmonic conversion, it's like a theoretical prophecy kinda of sorts. I believe that since Wan divided Raava from Vatoo, and imprisoned the spirit of darkness on the tree of time, a new kind of cicle was created, that in every 10000 years of the reign of one of the spirits(good or bad avatar), when harmonic conversion happens again, there will be a great fight between them, just like what happened in Korra, and most importantly, the previous winner will always be "reseted" somehow, for the sake of balance and fairness of the fight, all their connection to past lives and their power and wisdom will be permanently Lost, just like in korra. So the why of Raava was only in LoK and we never saw her talking to Aang it's because Korra is the "last" avatar of the old cicle- she was always meant to be(we can see that on the statues of the avatars on the Airtemple that there is only a few spaces left for the future avatars, the space basically ends with korra's statue, so we can use that like an Mayan calendar) - thus she's the first to begin the new cicle, she's like Wan, the only other avatar that we knew that interacted so intensely with Raava
@baustinshaw2375
@baustinshaw2375 5 лет назад
I think its because since the spirtual side of all elements was not always caught up with the Avatar unless they studied in their avatar state. So its possible raava was forgotten about

I think he might really be onto something with the spark thing because everything about the avatar matches up with the Dalai Lama even how they identify the next Avatar is taken from one of the tests to identify the next Dalai Lama it almost seems as if the way the avatar reincarnates matches with both ways described in the Tibetan Book of the Dead Except 2 moments that bring it all into question for me The the 1st was in a computer game I believe it was Escape the spirit world or something like that Aang talks to the 4 avatar before him At the water bender's turn he is describing how his fiance was pulled through the waters at the Spirit Oasis on their wedding day and he describes to Aang what she looks like Aang tells him about how he went into the spirit world looking for Koh the face stealer and he had a face that matched the avatars fiance the waterbender looks distressed and says he is off to take care of the problem or something I don't remember what but he seemed as if he could act independently of the new Avatar in the spirit world The 2nd was in the season 2 finale of LoK Tenzin, Bumi, Kya, and Jinora are all separated and lost in the spirit fog that causes you to go crazy Tenzin is talking to himself about how he's the Last Hope for the air Nation or something like that and then Aang shows up to him and says you're not me you need to quit trying to be me you were Tenzin and then fog clears and he gets the others and takes the out Tenzin isn't spiritually powerful enough to do that he couldn't even meditate to get into the spirit world hell Jinora wasn't even spiritually power enough to do that even during harmonic convergence I think it took an avatar and I think Aang was able to go and do that because his Spirit was able to act independently in the spirit world the same as the water benders seemed to do On a different note I think they split the 4th Dalai Lama in to two characters and changed chang like 2 things for ATLA, Aang and Zuko The 4th Dalai Lama, Yonten Gyatso was the great grandson of Altan Khan who was declared the reincarnation of Kublai Khan by the 3rd Dalai Lama Kublai Khan was the 5th Khagan of the Mongol Empire and grandson Genghis Khan he also started the Yuan dynasty in China

I think the key to understanding how the avatar spirits work is in the scene when Unalaq destroys Ravva. With each strike, a past incarnation was destroyed, meaning the memories and personalities of every avatar were stored within Ravva herself. I theorize that when the avatar is talking to a past incarnation, or when a past incarnation is taking over, it's actually ravva using the older data to help solve the problem.

I don't think Rava gives the ability to reincarnate. The way she says "we will be together for all of your lifetimes" makes it sound like he would have already had different lifetimes on his own, but now they can be together through it. So I don't believe that what makes the avatar special is that he can reincarnate. Perhaps everyone can do that, but no one tests them on it or keeps records to show them like they would for the avatar. Honestly I think reincarnation has to be looked at separately from being the avatar, and more like it has been seen in past wisdom. Like @Ida Thomsson has mentioned, the spirit is more of a path of life (to give more of an identity to that "spark" you mentioned) that's still subject to change. You can trace where it is now but you can't really nail it down type of thing. If we talk about the soul as the ongoing river, it's as if the avatar state is process of connecting to the ocean that this river feeds. Although the ocean has 'older' water in it, it does not feed the river. The river has a home in its current path (which will also change), and in the force that its source provides. Even though water is what makes you know it's a river, water alone doesn't make it a river in the way it would a body of water.
@MahaBasheikh
@MahaBasheikh 6 лет назад
capoeiristachik1 Thank you for saying this! It really bugs me when others think that only the Avatar can reincarnate! While it hasn't been explicitly confirmed to my knowledge, everything heavily implies that EVERYONE reincarnates. And I like to use that line by Raava to Wan as some of my proof when this is brought up. What Raava says heavily implies Wan would have reincarnated with or without fusing with Raava. What I do have a question about is if everyone else cycles through the four nations like the Avatar does or if that's Raava's doing in her quest to maintain balance. The reincarnation cycle being random or heavily favouring some nations would certainly add to the imbalance of the Avatar world. So it would make sense for Raava to do something about this if it already wasn't the default for everyone. Another question about the Avatar cycle: Sozin believed that the Air Nomad Avatar was hiding from him. But the Fire Nation could have easily been successful in killing the Air Nomad Avatar without the Fire Nation knowing for sure. I guess this is why the Fire Nation killed all the Waterbenders they could in the Southern Water Tribe (since the Northern Water Tribe was harder to penetrate). Genocide of the Air Nomads alone is horrific to think about. But it's even scarier to think what the Fire Nation would have done if they believed they killed the Air Nomad Avatar. What would have really prevented them from committing genocide with the Water Tribes? And then within the Earth Kingdom? Would they have even gone after their own Fire Nation citizens after that or felt safe with the obvious propaganda they were feeding their people to believe the Fire Nation Avatar would be on the Fire Nation's side? I mean even with propoganda every Avatar has access to their previous lives. It's really something to think about.
@capoeiristachik1
@capoeiristachik1 6 лет назад
I'm so glad you agree Maha. That's a good question, I'm not sure either. My guess would be that that is one of Raava's balancing acts. I don't see why souls would be so calculated otherwise. I think the fire nation was bluffing hard about having the avatar on their side and it is terrible to think of the consequences of what they're doing. But it is interesting to consider how every avatar is so different after reincarnating, and just how much the physical body and upbringing of that person influences them.

I view reincarnation as a soul moving from body to body trying to learn lessons. The soul has all the memories from a past life but blocks them off so that their new lesson wont be tainted by habits from a previous life. This being what causes a woman from england visiting china and knowing a house, down to knowing how to pronounce the street without ever seeing it before, or in the most peculiar case I've seen, a young boy recognizing a beach and remembering a day where he, his wife, and his children played before going home, then being able to point out the exact house he lived in and knowing things he shouldn't have known. (you can youtube interviews with him talking about his other mother and his life before he died). Personally i havent experienced a bizzare "i know this place" moment but i believe it feels a lot like dejvu, like being able to name a perfume because your preschool babysitter wore it even though you cant even remember the babysitter. My beliefs stem from the egg theory, if you want to read more about them.

To me it seemed like every single Avatar is it's own entity to some degree. They are all combined by Raava and maybe also Wan at the same time but the way they said "the Avatar reincarnates" in the show implies to me that the Avatar in itself is like a mixture of mental images, powers, natural beliefs that passes on to the next person but every Avatar is it's own spirit. That's my guess.

I've always thought that the memories, thoughts, and memories of the past lives carry over to the next life. As new memories and experiences come in, it builds a new person. Haven't you ever said, "My six year old self is so happy right now," or "My 21 year old self is with you. My 38 year old stuff, not so much?" Haven't you ever had a "conversation" with your younger self? I think these memories are retained in Rava, which is why killing her broke the connection to the past lives. Each new person brings not only new social experiences, but new experiences in the body. Imagine being placed in a body that was allergic to your favorite food, or even just the taste buds react differently so it tastes horrible now. With arms and legs and tongue and neck all suddenly different lengths than ever before and weak as a newborn, all of your memories will be pushed to a subconscious level while you relearn to walk and talk and such. If I could be reborn as anything, I'd want to be a river otter in a zoo. I saw river otters at the zoo. They always look likey they're having fun. I saw them mating once... Raava isn't the one who gave Wan the ability to bend the elements. The lion turtles did. Raava doesn't really do much except allow the Avatar to access their past lives with the avatar state (which more or less puts the spirit Raava in a human body), giving that avatar thousands of years of experience in that moment, until the avatar state passes. Love your vids, always a pleasure. I have two questions though. Firstly you say there are two halves to the Avatar. Do you think it’s possible for those two halves to be reincarnated separately? Like a set of twins? Secondly, after the events of Korra loosing the connection to her past lives, I’d assume it’s just the human half that looses the connection, but Raava herself would still remember. Do you think it possible for future Avatars to regain said connection? Like visiting the homes or places of worship dedicated to specific Avatars to learn their history and regain the connection individually.
