I was looking for a simple but good-looking roof rack for my Long Wheel Base Medium Roof Ford Transit Van. I was scrolling Instagram one day and this company AVC which I had heard of before had an ad up for their new roof rack design. I liked it because it was exactly what I wanted to fabricate since I hadn't seen one like it yet! I sent them an email and they were able to get me one a few weeks later and told them I would get them a video installation and honest review on it, so here it is! If you're looking for an affordable, simple, and strong roof rack to mount some gear on the roof, I would definitely consider this rack for your Ford Transit!

With 60 inches of width this rack will accommodate larger solar panels going across the van and help optimize solar space utilization on top of the van. I wish this rack was available 6 months ago when I installed my rack.

@Golli Wog Your design preference eliminates the opportunity to capture power from the sun while driving. Also, much of the year being in the shade is cold, and one appreciates the warmth of the sun. Everything is a trade off and depending on the climate to each his own.

Anytime you screw stainless into metal stainless or regular metal you should use anti-seize on the threads of the stainless and if galls you’ll never get it out or further in to tighten it

Thanks for sharing. One thing, it looks like the bolts that are holding the "blades" to the feet are too short. The bolts should come through far enough to engage the nylon ring on the inside of the lock nuts. Guessing they did not plan for the large washers to be there. Keep an eye on them incase they vibrate loose, or you could remove them and put some Loctite on each bolt to make sure you don't have them falling out.

Bradley Ortego I have this rack and the bolts are long enough. It doesn’t stick all the way they but it definetly engages with the nylon part. It’s been up there for 6 months and no problems.

We have moved to using thinner jam nuts with all orders.With the thinner nut the nylock is fully engaged.

I like the side profile and the front air deflector of this rack. Dislike the huge logo on the side and large gap between the two side pieces. All they had to do is include an extra piece that would bolt behind the rails to cover the gap. Rack needs to be longer to match the angle of the vans (front) roof, looks weird with it being stepped back.

where the two side pieces don't meet up in the middle. I would throw the 4 washers away and use square piece of black metal (plate ... wide enough to go over all 4 bolts) the same thickness of the washers so the lock nuts still work. From the ground it would look better, and add a little strength as well by tying the two together.

The company now makes the side pieces longer so there is maybe an 1/8" gap.

No real noise difference but yes I would say you would lose a little bit on the miles per gallon

Most folks are doing the Aluminess ladder with this rack from what I’ve seen.

Everything is just powder coated black.

Directions incomplete: You forgot to add "Check the radar AND the forecast before starting the job - and then DON'T BELIEVE them." Yep - poured buckets while I was trying to get some of the roof bolts in - on both sides. It stopped and started again when the weather cleared and I started the other side. Needless to say - more than a one day job at my house. . . . sigh. . . .
