Sissel's final look at Placido Domingo (3:05) is absolutely amazing. She just wants to read his facial expression and confirm such an outstanding performance. Two music icons together can only make great music!!
Actually the piece you refer to as Ava Maria is the intermezzo to the third act of Cavalera Rusticana . This is a glorious rendition of that soprano solo. Two wonderful balanced voices which only compliment each other. Anyone not moved has no soul

Ronald Mitaxa Thank You Dear Ronald! (I have soul, now I am sure about it!:o)
The duet of these two people is the best. Sissel is described as the owner of a crystal voice, but she can also make such a voice. I want to call her the owner of Miracle Voice. I love Domingo singing while conducting
I have only just discovered Sissel and can't stop watching every video. This one I had not seen. It is just sublime. I also agree with a previous comment, the bit where the conductor smiles at Sissel and she, impishly, smiles back. Absolutely charming. The lady is totally captivating and still is. Words fail me.
What can I say. I listen to this regularly and each time it just leaves me without words. Yes , moving, yes memorable, and yes deeply Christian. Sissel and Placido what great beautiful voices and a beautiful rendering of Ave Maria from the itermezzo of Mascanni's Cavalera Rusticana.
Love love their duet!!!! I can't get enough of this! Sissel is now one of my favorite saprono; I don't like to hear too much vibration vocals. Sissel's is skillful and very inspirational! her high pitch is very unspeakable! I wish to go to her concert someday.
Comforting to know that as a species we can produce a sound as beautiful as that, so we cant be ALL bad ,there has to be some good in us,though it's hard to see most of the time.
+Tere H de V Sissel almost says,"Hey, maestro, Placido's voice is in great form tonight!" And the conductor almost replies, "Yeahhhh, this recording'is a keeper -- we really hit the jackpot with the old guy tonight!"
Genial.
