I'm not even 30 and I feel the responsibility to say this does not compare very well to the unbelievable polyphonic Ave Maria arrangements out there. Not that these guys did poorly, but when you're gonna bring in "every version of Ave Maria ever recorded", then, well this is a necessary footnote.
Absolute voices of angels. And you r right. They sound like a full choir. I have never heard anyone sing this more beautifully. I can’t stop watching and the last part of the song unbelievable.
I read about 20 comments and figured since no one else addressed the elephant in the room I would do it. And please, no haters, ok? I mean all of this with all of the respect in my heart for these gentleman and my love for them taking the time to learn the song and do such an amazing job on it. As a 68 year old Black singer, I was a member of the Barbershop Quartet Society for about 15 years. Their style of music has never been very popular among young Black men, so I know something about "singing something different". I just wanted to say how absolutely REFRESHING it was to hear four young very talented Black men singing something classical and doing, as I said earlier, such an amazing job on it. I literally had tears in my eyes listening to this and that rarely happens. I wish we could get more young Black people, men and women, interested in this type of music rather than the rap and hip-hop that in my opinion, has been a major factor in glorifying thug life, street life, and disrespect towards women in the Black community over the last 40 years.
I could not agree with you more, and I think it is wonderful to see these young men singing something so beautifully that seems "out of character"... It should not be that way, and I hope that more young people (black or any other color, race, or creed) will discover the beauty of classical music... One only has to look at East Asians for groups like Bach Collegium Japan or performers like Lang-Lang and others to know how universal western classical music is...
I didn't realize it until i've seen your comment. I mean we are a few black people studying classical music. We are at least... 6, 7 in my conservatory, for all the instruments. But never, and why do I realize it only now, never have I seen a black quartet.
I’m a music teacher and vocalist. This is by far the most unique snd sublime rendition of Schubert’s Ave Maria I’ve heard ! Intricate harmonies ....lavish legato ...shimmering trebles velvet bass .......Exquisite
Today is Mother's Day. My mother died on Christmas night 2023. She was in hospice care at a local hospital. I was binge watching hospice care videos on RU-vid when this music video appeared. I played your music video and held up my phone to my mother's ear , even though she had been unconscious since December 21st. When this song ended I turned off my phone because it needed to be charged and I then walked over to a chair to get my purse. A hospice care booklet was given to me by one of my mother's hospice care nurses and I wanted to reread it. This is when my mother's hospital night nurse walked in to tell me she had been informed that my mother's vital signs had completely stopped. I turned my phone back on. It was 10:49 PM. Eleven minutes before 11:00 PM. The very last sound that my very much beloved mother heard was your heavenly beautiful voices. Thank you , gentlemen 💔.
What a beautiful song and last bit of sound to hear as she transitioned. These men did a fine job and very talented young men. I’m sorry for your loss especially on Christmas 🙏🏼
Never in my life have I been able to listen to this song because it was played at my father's funeral in 1970 when I was 5 years old. I immediately turn it off whenever I see it anywhere. Well today this mysteriously popped up in my feed. Been thinking about my father a lot lately and wishing I had him here to talk to and love me. Listening to this is what I imagine it must feel like to be sitting next to God and Heaven, this is the first time I could ever listen to this all the way through and appreciate it for what it is. What a gift you have given me today! This is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard in my life, I love all of you for this, you have given me an enormous gift today and I thank you for that! You have a new super fan 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Sending Love from another who misses her father also. Whenever I miss him terribly, I go outside alone and talk to the stars. Today, I send Love to you and tell you, because your father can't, how proud I am of the woman you've become. May you find a small sign over the next few days, a sign from above, that immediately makes you pause, to let you know your father's spirit is still with you every day and that Love never dies, it only changes form.
@@smileawhile3788 hello Friend! So happy I got this notification.... YOU are my sign! I felt his love through YOU I know the holy spirit is working through you here you have given me a priceless gift today I am so grateful to you! I am sure your father is right next to you as well he must have been an incredible man to have made a daughter with a caring heart like you! Many Thanks and much love to you for your support and kindness today ♥️🙏🏻
This song is SO TIMELY for my family and I! My 13 year old sister has cancer, and Sunday I had gotten a call from my parents asking to gather all of my siblings to come and say our goodbyes… We prayed, we asked for a miracle, and here we are 5 days later and my sister has made a MIRACULOUS recovery and doctors are in AWE!
Anyone who's ever sung in a choir knows how hard it is to get a capella down without sounding forced. The synchronisation and blending is beyond words. I salute you!
I couldn't agree with you more! I sing 1st soprano in my chorus that I've been in for over 10 years. (I think I joined when I was 23.) So I've been in my chorus for about 13 years. However, I've been singing in some type of chorus since I learned how to talk. Singing A Capella is so difficult to do correctly without it sounding forced. These guys did a wonderful job!
This rendition of Schubert’s Ave Marie deserves a million likes. The acoustics in that stairwell are incredible. It sounds like a cathedral. And these four men have the voices of angels. Kudos to whoever among them did the arrangement. Let us all make a commitment in 2022 to build up and preserve civilization rather than tearing it down.
Oh my gosh!! This is the most beautiful rendition I think I have ever heard Of Ave Maria!! Brought tears to my eyes and gave me chills up and down my whole body absolutely gorgeous how beautiful those voices that God bless those young men with is amazing totally amazing!! Can’t wait what they put out next, totally beautiful!!! God bless them.
Yes!!! And I wondered, if in fact the harmonies were spontaneous - borne of that connection that happens when one makes music with other vessels being filled breath by breath with holy spirit.
I can’t stop listening to this. I went to Paris and took a day trip to Chartres Cathedral. I played this on my headphones as I walked through the church. Transcendent experience.
So refreshing to see four young men so talented and breaking with the customary expected roles for guys like this. I think most listeners don't know how long it takes to learn to sing in such tight harmonies unless they are singers themselves. I hope they continue as a group create such beauty again. and can
Me either. Normally I bypass videos and come back to them but this one gave me such an amazing feeling that I wanted to hear the song from beginning to end!!!!!!! Love their redention!!!!! 4 men sound like a full blown choir 4 real.
OMG! Such Angelic voices in perfect harmony. I don't attend church, but this was beautiful. I am a believer in God and Christ and this brought tears to my eyes.
It wasn't the stairwell that was incredible, it was the young men who sang that was incredible. God bless you guys for the blessing you gave all who heard you! Merry Christmas!❤
Bellisimo,Grazie a Dio ,from where are you guys ! What a gift from God ..May the good Lord bless you in your beautiful souls and for sure Mother Mary is very pleased to hear this Her Song,As we acclaimed of this song "Hail Mary",that's the meaning of the Ave Maria...
I am an 84 year old Indian woman who loves all types of music….religious, profane, classical and pop, western, Indian, African, whatever. I am not a Christian or Catholic , but studied most of my life in Convent Schools. And hence learned and sang hymns …including Ave Maria, one of my favourites. This rendition is special, soul stirring and deeply emotional. My husband , who passed away two months ago, would have loved this….wish he could have heard it….maybe he is listening wherever he is. Thank you young men for making time stop and giving my soul some meaningful time.
I am a 68 year old Black Catholic and this is one of the best versions of Ave Maria I have heard. I wish I had came across this video before Christmas 2023. I am listening to and discovered this video on RU-vid December 27, 2023. This song always touches my heart and especially in these turbulent times with so much crime, hatred, war, and racism. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Black but not Catholic, and Ave Maria always moves me. Found this on 12/31/23. I agree about the times... There's a song from the 1960's that starts with something like "I am so weary..." I'll have to look it up. Otis Redding maybe? Blessings to all in the coming year.

As an Italian woman I have heard this song in many different renditions this was beautiful. I applauded you with tears. You all did this song a wonderful justice thank you
Although i believe in God, i do not have a religion. And i was never catholic but, the Ave Maria is the most beautiful hymn i have ever heard in my life. This rendition by these 4 angels in a fabulously acoustic stairwell will live in my memory always. I applaud you gentlemen. 👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏
4 angels singing! Baritone, tenor, alto and soprano, perfectly harmonized! This was simply BEAUTIFUL! And while not a black man myself. It's SO REFRESHING to hear something like this, than the rap/hip hop. Boyz 2 Men have NOTHING on you 4. The harmonizing was BEYOND ON POINT!! MUCH LOVE AND LIGHT GUYS!!!🥰😁
Hearing newer renditions of classical songs brings so much warmth to my heart. Hearing them with all male voices is the icing on the cake. I love this so much.
I'm not a Catholic but I felt the reverence from these young men as they sang. The acoustics took me from a stairwell to a cathedral. I agree with other comments and say this is the best and most moving version of this song that I've ever heard. Bravo!
I am classically trained and in this, a traditionalist. But these guys brought it alive again. And that is what music is all about...interpreting it as you experience it, making it yours and sharing it with us. Thank you gentlemen, for your lovely rendition. Peace.
Absolutely the best version of Ave Maria I’ve ever heard. Normally it is sung as a solo at weddings and funerals. This is the first time I have heard it sung as 4-part harmony. It gave me chills. Superb job!
I love ave maria and moreso for the one offs I come across here and there, like this one. It was maybe a page in when I forgot what I was listening to because these guys are above that. Such a treat
I"m a Catholic who has always favored this hymn. I imagine it being sung in heaven by the angels. It also brings me back to my father in Ireland who always sang it. Your rendition brought me goose bumps. Thank you so much for sharing - you made me very happy. :)
What a discovery you are! This is by FAR the greatest version of this song that I've ever heard - and I've been listening to it for 65 years! Thank you so much for the gift you give us with your singing!
These comments say it all. I can only add that I just found this and I had gooseflesh through the whole thing. That has never happened before. It came in waves. Husband just listened and I felt the sane thing. God bless you all!
What a complex species we are. We are capable of the worst types of atrocities against each other and animals. Then you hear this, and it makes you weep with joy. More of this please.
Agreed! What has become of humanity? Then you hear this beautiful piece. Since the Prophet Jubal was given the gift of music, music has brought another side to evil. ⛰🌲👨🌾🇺🇸✝️
As a traditional catholic this was the best rendition of the Ave Maria that I’ve ever heard. This is my favorite song that always brings tears to my eye. I always place myself next to Mary turning the Crucifixion. Honoring her great sacrifice of watching Her Son being tortured and but to death for our sins. Pray friends, pray for the world. Thank you so much for sharing your gifts to the world. Absolutely beautiful!! 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
Just beautiful , the harmony of the 4 voices these young men should have a singing contract , should be singing at a cathedral in Rome , breathtaking , just took my breath away , beautiful touches your heart , their harmony is “ pitch-perfect” , sheer perfection. My eyes are tearing up my mother who is gone loved this song thank you 🎼🌹
@@johnsteven5544 freind, by "no words" in this context one means so wonderful that words cannot express the appreciation. Yes it is the prayer of Hail Mary...and more I do know that.
Aw Guys, it was like the stairway to heaven watching and listening. Thank you for sharing your blessed gifts with the millions. May God bless you and keep you all safe.
So beautiful. I close my eyes and see them in that massive cathedral with high arched ceilings, at night, with the snow gently falling outside. Gives me goosebumps to hear them. These gentlemen are ready for Primetime!
My daughter and I sing in our church choir and know how difficult this can be! God bless you all and your voices! I know I am not alone when I say, “Bravo!!! More more!!!”
It is for times like this that I’m grateful for the internet…. I would not have had this opportunity to hear such angelic voices otherwise! Thank you! 💖
This is the best Ava Maria I have EVER heard and believe these young men deserve to be heard…Can you imagine how this would sound in a cathedral?….absolutely beautiful…
TY so much, I am Catholic and this was like stepping into heaven ...I closed my eyes to take it all in What gifts you gentleman have, You have made our Lord happy with this wonderous song honoring His Mother!
I hope you all know that the INCREDIBLE thing in this video is not the stairwell, it's you four. You're melting my brain (in a good way) with your talents. I've never heard 4 people sound more like one voice. I also love the way you group-conduct; it's so organic. Special shout-out to the tenor/counter-tenor with the most amazing tone and vibrato. This whole thing is just stunning.
4-4-2024 >>> I must hear your beautiful rendition of; "Ave Maria" daily which is breathtaking. In addition, I must also listen to "Lucy Thomas" rendition of; "Hallelujah" and her amazing newest song; "1,000 Years". This particular song, "1,000 Years" has lyrics that are truly remarkable and gifted. All of you are blessed with God given voices.😇
I have performed the Schubert Ave Maria in a chorus, small groups, and as a soloist. I have performed it in church, weddings, funerals and as part of mass. I have heard dozens of arrangements and this is hands down the most glorious version. I actually wept becuase of how beautiful it is. What an amazing talent you have!
Yes, this music is very powerful and deeply moving. Had I not seen these talented black men singing, I would not have known their “color”, love it just hearing their beautiful voices!
Yes exactly, the dynamics, the harmonies!!! Just the right vibrato at the right place... Oh my my my you cry with joy and listen to it again and again and you keep discovering new harmonies.
This is my mom's favorite song. She is in the final stages of alzheimers and this song still brings her peace and joy. Thank you for sharing your talent ❤️
I am a 76 year old Catholic. If you brought tears, to my eyes. You nailed it....(my family would say too). 😇 Thank you! You guys are so awesome doing this and gave me some long needed faith.
Your arrangement & talented voices = goosebumps & appreciation. Franz Schubert wrote so much in his short life. He died age 31. He was my 5th great uncle. This was his most familiar; I believe you have done him proud.😊🎵🎶🎵
Sir Walter Scott wrote this poem published in 1810, later adapted by Schubert to music. The non religious poem is titled "the Lady of the Lake". Schubert did a beautiful job adapting it to music. I think Pavarotti sang it best.
MY GOD...there are angels. They met in a stairwell to sing the Ave Maria. For a few minutes, they gave my soul wings and let it soar toward Heaven. Magnificent!
Perfectly described my experience hearing this as well. I already have it in my "when I'm gone" book that this version is the one to be played at my funeral!
@@justyne8627 Amen! Looking that that may have seemed dark, mea culpa, I've been back at Church a year now after a 35 year detour. God is great, I must let a few more ppl know of the joy only He can give:) God Bless you as well!
Wow, 😍 the sound is so beautiful , and sung in Latin makes it even better !!! Bravo ,👍👏to these wonderful guys, they syntonized very well all together!! Great👏❤️
Thank you. My mum just passed away right before Christmas and this was her favourite song and I played Mario Lanza’s version as she transitioned. It’s Christmas Day - the first Christmas without her. I’m alone before the family arrive looking for Christmas music and found this. It’s so beautiful and a timely gift to the world so thank you so much.
My deepest sympathies to you at this sad time, I lost my dad a couple of Christmases ago - sending huge hugs from London to find you wherever you may be. ❤
@@raquelgarvin8391 - "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy" (Luke 1:42-44).
The only qualm I could possibly have with this is the lack of second verse from the original, only a repitition of the first, and even then, this is utterly divine. Amen, brothers, God bless you all.
@@annettemargarit9245 We already exist in many different genres, some people just aren't aware and assume we're limited to only certain styles of music. Have you ever heard Leontyne Price sing? She retired decades ago, but she's one of the most exquisite opera singers to ever grace the Met.
I am Catholic, and when I was a little girl, I thought there were angels, in the choir. This is a very hard song to sing. And these young gentlemen, have brought this to a new level. Thank you for sharing your wonderful, gifted voices.
Just hearing this now. I'd like to wrap you up and give you to the world as a gift. Beautiful, soul soothing. You are what the world needs now. Amazing. Thank you. Thank you.
