Kettle is a London slang term for a wrist watch btw, it will keep coming up in songs so it’s good for you to know the meaning. As for why he isn’t the top guy over here, I think it’s actually the same you reason you like him because he sounds more universal, more palatable for ear drums used to American rap. Over here people tend to gravitate to artists who sound more UK...the more UK the better. Maybe Avelino’s more accessible sound isn’t as appreciated because UK rap is in a place where we make music for us, and if outsiders like it then fine and if they don’t...it wasn’t for you anyway. All the top artists over here tend to be unapologetically UK sounding to the point where it can be really hard for people that are not from the UK to digest, get into or even in some cases to understand at all. Which can mean they are loved here but sometimes it doesn’t translate as well overseas. Even that Ghetts daily duppy you did had so many UK specific lines and references that you just wouldn’t know unless you’re from here, so a UK person listening would have enjoyed listening WAY more because they get everything he is saying...from the references, to the slang, to the accents, and I think the reason drake co-signs the people he does is because black UK slang is really similar to black Canadian slang so he gets it more and it probably hits way harder for him.

@3:06 This is exactly what I like about Avelino's style. His delivery, his tone, his cadence.. everything together makes it for smooth listening. This makes his music be something chill you can set in the background and vibe to, but you also sink your teeth into the bars and there is a lot there to unpack... All the time. The schemes, the double entendres, metaphors. He rapping every bar. And its insane! All this pressure on breadwinners, now its baguettes.. Pressure makes diamonds.. thats a double entendre right off the rip. The track just started. There iss no foreplay. Dude just gets to business. Also his beat selection is insane and ear for music is top tier.

I would highly recommend all 4 of avelino’s four seasons free styles. Very similar to this track, sick beats and bar after bar

LITTLE SIMZ is a MUST for you guys, she’s the most artistically complete UK artist in my opinion. She’s made it in america too, not that that’s important. Recommend Introvert, I love you I hate you, Offence, Boss and Standing ovation for sure

being 30 years old i grew up on UK grine from 12 years old to present, ive listened to everyone from skepta, wiley, chip, d double, kano, scorcher, devlin, griminal, shifty, akala, mic rightious, stormzy, p money, bugzy, dave ect..ive followed the whole scene from a young age and in my opinion ghetts, wretch and avelino are the 3 most talented artists the uk has ever produced. the flow switches, the pen slickness, the adaptability, versatility, craftsmanship of a song, likeability, relatability, delivery and longevity puts them 3 at the top for me. theyre timeless artist, nothing they put out is ever less than a 9/10. i think others come very close but i was a CEO if a huge record label, for the all round package they come above everyone else.

Avelino is definitely one of favorite UK acts. It's Wretch 32, Dave, Avelino and Chip from that end for me.
