I once found a downed Avenger and the pieces left of her. That massive landing strut was about all I could do to stand it vertically for a photo. A GM built model from Trenton New Jersey. Beautiful model shown here.
Was checking out your video because I'm building the same kit and i needed to see some interior shots. My mind was blown, as I watched. Your Avenger is the best I've ever seen, probably one of the best kit builds I have ever watched.
Beautiful, subtly shaded paint work. It amazes me that when I first peeked into a model building magazine as a kid, nobody was weathering planes! Tanks, railway stuff, maybe, but who would let their planes get all grubby and worn?! Well, people fighting a war, for one. Seemed to take a while for that to sink in!
The cockpit for the pilot must be Dull Dark Green untill December 1942, then cockpit green when Grumman will be out of stock of Dull Dark Green, maybe February or March 1943.
Brilliant work. If you have not already seen it, check out the detailed, two part tour of the Avenger that Mid Atlantic Air Museum posted up here on RU-vid. Just reinforces the quality of your build getting to see the 1:1 up close and personal.
I am building a balsa wood-tissue paper model of the Avenger, which is not capable of being rendered the kind of detail you have so carefully and lovingly instilled your model with. I was inspired to do the Avenger having seen the latest MIDWAY film (HBO Max), done with amazing effects,. The plane flew for the first time in combat at Midway, as you know, and named Avenger b/c of Pearl Harbor. Curiously the plane the film depicts did not have the spherical machine gun turret and was only manned by two, the rear pilot being the gunner. Thanks again. Loren Woodson
Beautiful work. Detailing is outstanding. Weathering is superb. Inspiring to watch it come together. I didn’t know the Avenger carried conventional 500 lb bombs and rockets. I thought the airplane was strictly a torpedo bomber.
I have an Accurate Miniatures Avenger in storage that I will build some day in honor of George H.W. Bush. Awesome video. In the meantime I have a 1:72 die cast version on my shelf.
1. spray surfacer 2. you paint the boards - with the right color 3. gently apply the metalizer to the protruding elements with a dry brush 4. scray clear mat to protect (mr hobby clear is the best) 5. apply decals or paint panels with a super-precise brush - only the tip of the bristles 6. when it dries, protect all mat clear and apply mr hobby glossy clear with a brush instead of glasses The more cockpits you do this your technique will get better! fight brother!
Just picked it up today after watching this a few month back! Loved it looks so nice maybe need to change the Guns out what are they 30 cal or 50s? I'm an armour modeller normally as 1.35 so this is going to be a wee challenge by all means! The MGs seem to be all I want to change out with a quick scan of the parts I think I can detail this is pretty well with my skills from armour anyway
The instructions on this kit looks like they were drawn with a felt tip marker by someone with an I.Q. of 70. Be advised - check your fits - especially the turret diagram is awful. Landing gear were better than most however. And there is a lot of great detail on this kit.
That's a nice kit. The detail is superb. I have this bunker hill version but I think it's going to become part of Flight 19 lost in the Bermuda Triangle. I'm fortunate to have three Accurate Miniatures of Flight 19 squadron models and decals to do all five Aircraft. Nice job on the painting of this model by the way. Good reference for painting interior.👍🇭🇲🦘🐨✌️
Dude...as someone with over forty years of experience around aircraft I will say you're close, real close. 'Not sure about the exhausts...too thick and too shiny. Even with an engine change, they would, most likely, be reused. But the wear and tear? The grease staining on the 'gears? Close....very close.
