Most DIFFICULT painting I’ve done! HobbyBoss 1/48 FW-190-D13, Full Build, Step By Step Model 

Lovely model. I havent made a kit for 50 years, so i'm collecting a stash ready for my retirement. Picking up great tips and watching other peoples skill will help a lot. You CAN teach an old dog new tricks.

My favorite ww2 aircraft the fw-190D and Ta-152 The fit on my kit whent together rather well the only thing is i used a sprue spacer in fuselage to get rid of the tiny wing gap.

Thanx for sharing your beautiful model build! Although "to each his own" should describe the hobby, since the majority of modelers endeavor to pursue accuracy & realism, I bemoan the current trend (fad?) of "weathering" one's a/c to the extent that it appears to have taken off in a pebble sandstorm, then flown through burning oilfields, only to land on Guadalcanal, and sit outside for a year. Being around military a/c for more than 50 yrs, that's not been my experience. "Less is more" is my approach to "weathering ".

I really enjoyed your presentation and demeanor. You explained the process very well. I have found another master modeller to use as a tutor and source to take my modelling to the next level. Thank you!

I used to go to the Flying Heritage Museum in the States, don't live that far away, and our Company at the time did the Security there. It is an amazing plane.

Fw-190D-9-13 was the last version before the Ta-152 . There was reduced size in the canons while the circular booster was still on the right side (star port).

Looks like the old Trimaster/Dragon kit. Great job and finish.

I believe the raised area behind the pilot's seat is called the turtledeck. The circular loop is called a loop antenna and was used for radio navigation.

600 Dora 9's were produced. Although fuel was scarce more than a handful saw combat. A main purpose was defending the Me 262 airfields. I am certain many P51 pilots felt fear when having a Dora lined up the P51's spine. If I had the choice between flying a Dora a flying a Mustang I'd go with the Dora, assuming said Dora was in US livery.

Great production! Super close-up and high definition. For the decal carrier film, try using a small amount of Elmer's white glue when applying the decals to the surface of the model.

Awesome paint job. I have an Me262 in progress with a similar paint job, but its even more chaotic looking with layers of squiggles. I really love these oddball camo schemes on the late war Luftwaffe planes.

I'm with you on the overweathering. I used to weather all my planes. It's easy to over do which instantly takes away from the model in my opinion. Nice build! Incredible camo scheme.

The looped part at 5:19 is the DF loop (or Moraine antenna) and the "pitot tube" at 5:42 is the FuG16 ZY radio antenna. Great build too. I've found the HB series of 190's put the fun back into modelling. Cheers

Having made a couple of these HB kits, I found that if you paint the flat part of the rear engine bulkhead in matt black and the rest with metal, glossy black, Greys and the nose interior in Rlm02 you will get a fairly convincing 3d looking bay.Sure saves effort in putting in a complete engine and mounts! BTW, the loop is a DF loop for the aircraft compass.

Just caught up with this build.I think it's an absolutely beautiful piece of work. The FW190 is my favourite WW2 German plane,though I prefer the A to the D. Having seen the build I am tempted, I do think we become more critical of our work as we become more experienced thanks for uploading.

Excellent sir, very good build. We modelers can be sometimes too picky about our work. Years ago I went to a museum and the wwii aircraft there had dents, misaligned panels, gaps, etc. A lot of the models you see are better looking than the real thing! Keep building.

Totally agree with you on the weathering. I've made this model but not as yellow 10 and I thought that they wouldn't have seen a lot of use and got badly weathered. That said I am not keen on over weathering anyway.

I have been using tamiya acrylics for over 40 years and I love them especially for doing fine German camouflage. They can be thinned to 90% thinner and still spray. I can get a pencil line spray pattern with no spatter. I must say that is the most unusual wing and empennage camo scheme I have seen on a German aircraft from World War II.

the janky looking lines toward the tail is a really cool attention to detail you pointed out at 15:14. The D series Fw190 made use of an inline V12 instead of the radials present on the rest of the series. The V12 was much longer out on the nose so to preserve the plane's center of gravity a segment was added to lengthen the tail. It's a neat touch and it can be hard to see that segment in most pictures of the Fw190. Sorry if that question was already answered. This was a great build, you do fantastic work.

Nice build. I have done the Hobby Boss Ta152C1 which turned out nicely. One issue that I had to contend with and I notice on your model is that Hobby Boss have not angled the undercarriage leg attachment pins correctly. The proper stance is for the legs to be angled inward and forward. The wheel axles are not at 90% to the leg but they are to the ground. The wing bay needs to be enlarged to allow the correct angle of the leg. The wheel is 90% to the ground but not parallel with the leg due to angled axle. Viewed from above, the wheel is completely forward of the leading edge. This article has diagram showing the correct angles and stance. www.clubhyper.com/reference/fw190landinggear_1.htm

Nice work. I have been debating getting the Trumpeter 1/32 scale Stuka. Would be a pretty large plane to build but might be fun!

From my researesethere is a few late war colors. Color 83 was late war dark green and 81 was called brown violet. It was like a reddish olive drab.

I have this kit, the D-9, D-10, D-11 and D-12 as well. I like these kits, even though there are a couple of small goofs in the detailing, most notably the shape of the wing root bulges for the Mg151 Cannons. It just isn't quite right and rather tricky to fix. Compare it with the Eduard Fw-190 (any model) and you will spot it. (The shape never changed over all 190 models, post the A-3..) The D10 mounts outer wing cannons, but has no shell ejector ports, an easy fix & re-scribe to do... I just wish they had finished the series with a D-15 but they moved on to the Ta152C instead. And AFAIK, did not finish that with an H!

Came out great! Nice work with the camo. Modelers nightmare, uncontrolled crash. I hate it when the hands decide it's time to STOP working while handling a nearly completed model. Heart ache & setbacks. Good save though

Odd - I used Eaglecals on an Eduard D-11 and they were fantastic. Similar results on a JG2 FW190A-7 - great results. Maybe you got a lemon set ??

The one in Everett washington is really nice. But it's hilarious listening to nerds talking about the scheme. Saying it is wrong and too messy. Either way, the scheme is a bunch of haphazard squiggly lines. Looks fantastic in person. Hasegawa does an actual 48th kit of the scheme.
