In the words of Harrison Ford to Mark Hamil in the Stars Wars "Trash Compactor Scene" when Mark Hamil was talking how his hair should be messed up and matted if they're in a trash compactor: Harrison Ford to Mark Hamil: "Hey kid, it ain't that kind of movie. That's why I love Mark's reviews. He recognizes that he's not particularly into the genre but doesn't let it jeopardize his judgment. Some people think that just because it's a super hero or any other type of movie outside of the indie/art realm is not worth the shot. Yes, there is a lot of garbage especially within blockbusters but some of them are really well made and entertaining.
@lwaves
@lwaves 5 лет назад
Sometimes films can be made to be thought provoking, teach you something or get a message across. Sometimes they can be made to make you laugh or cry. Then sometimes they can be made purely to entertain, for fun and the thrill of excitement. All are equally valid and only the arrogant elitists think otherwise.

These movies and the directors behind them are briliant at giving short lines that give you more understanding of the character than some more serious dramas do in 30 minutes, same goes for performances, Robert Downey Jr. shows he's entire emotional spectrum in a single scene, something he can not do in any other "serious" film like the Judge for example.

Considering what happened at the end of Infinity War, it's understandable that they're miserable. Personally, I loved all three acts. Of course there are some problems that could be picked apart if you sat down and plotted the whole film out, but I think the problems in the film are small enough (and explained away quite well) that you can look past them and see what the film is doing. The final act is something you can see coming, but it's the genre trope, and instead of just doing the trope, the filmmakers use the trope to the bests of their advantage.

The end credits started, I thought, theres no way they will put an end credit scene after that movie but the cinema was packed and nobody moved, there was no way to get out while waiting 10 minutes for the credits to close, but no end scene. Everyone was complaining as they finally left. But just what could they have put at the end, as Mark said, the film was the end.

One thing I did like about Endgame is how even though Captain Marvel was very powerful, she was about the same as some of the most powerful other Avengers so it didn't ruin the story line.

That the villain was so powerful in Infinity Wars, and to be brought down by a solution that was basically a throwaway one, left me feeling cheated. Infinity Wars was at least 2 grades higher.

@@David-Field.Stuff01 I have seen that only briefly, and it wasn't technically an Avengers movie, though you could say it had more Avenger content than an Avengers movie. I don't know, I rather loved the difference (again, not seeing all of Civil War) that Infinity Wars had, because the ending was such an unexpected one, at least if you didn't know there was going to be a follow-up movie. I believe I knew there was going to be another movie, but the ending even surprised me, and it seemed like they overdid it at the time. But who knew you could use time to wish it away like a fairy wand? Endgame - so childish.

The Avengers infinity war and Endgame as a two part mini series is a Film of Operatic proportions. A true roller coaster ride of emotions they are not only great but one of the greatest movies of the modern era . On the same scale as 2001 AD ?

The thing that clinched the credits as the ending of a franchise or chapter at least is they did that Star Trek 6 thing of having the signatures of the original Avengers fly across the screen. They had to have borrowed that from that surely.

Rowan Crump nope. Which is why Mark liked it. This movie is the ending of all the previous films so there are no teasers for what comes next. It’s a final curtain call. So no need to sit throughout the credits.

Unlike Infinity war which felt like a lot of setup this film feels much more rewarding. It was great to see the original Avengers have their story arcs finished. One of my biggest problems with Marvel films before this one was there never seemed to be a resolution.

Great review, managing to dodge most of the obvious spoilers. I've often felt that Mark struggles to review films that belong to genres he doesn't generally enjoy, but I feel his review of this film is fair, and highlights what a great job the Russo's did, against all odds, to direct a film that overwhelmingly satisfied such a huge audience. They must have done something right for Mark to finally comment "It's pretty damned good."

I agree with you that the beginning and middle of "Endgame" is the best parts. I liked the time travel and the seeing of their past in their face, but the idea of the world changed and superheroes changed by what Thanos did to them in "Infinity Wars" shown at the beginning of "Endgame" better. So "Infinity Wars" is my 35th favorite movie of all time. It is in my top 100 and the first and fourth are outside the top 100 movies, but the third one does not make it into the top 300 favorite movies. Why is "Infinity Wars" my favorite? Because the doomsday prophet states the truth, works for his truth, and then hates the truth. The first one was excellent in introducing the characters such that you got to know the characters and how they see each other or interact with each other such that you love the action sequences later. The last one (#4 of the series) is excellent in time travel and the characters going back through past scenes, but there is no wow moment like in the third. 35) Avengers: Infinity Wars (2018) 123) Avengers: End game (2019) 139) Avengers (2012)

@Krystyon KR Martin, love your name and how it is spelled. Since I have said that "Infinity Wars" is my 35th favorite movie, I figure you should know all the movies that I think beat it. Every person's favorite movie is particular to them. To just put it out there without giving some information as to why is not right. My favorite movie is "The Scarlet Pimpernel" with Anthony Andrews. It is like a Batman character who feels real within a bloody time frame in France as they are using the guillotine to slay 17,000 men, women, and children of nobility to become a democratic state under Maximilien François Marie Isidore de Robespierre who would be known by only the first and last name or just the last name. Anthony Andrew is the richest man in England using a band of men to save lives in France. Feel free to watch the trailers for these movies and see if they interest you. My FAVORITE thirty-five (35) movies of all time. 1) The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982) 2) It's a Wonderful Life (1946) 3) The Prince who was a Thief (1951) 4) Narnia: the Lion, the witch, and the wardrobe (2005) 5) Let the Right One In (2008) - Swedish with English caption 6) A Silent Voice (2016) - Japanese with English caption 7) My Rainy Days (2009) - Japanese with English caption 8) X + Y [a Brilliant Young Mind] (2014) 9) Silence (2016) 10) Beauty and the Beast (2017) 11) Goodbye, Christopher Robin (2017) 12) The Man who Invented Christmas (2017) 13) The Scarlet Pimpernel (1934) 14) Amen (2002) 15) Red (2010) 16) Fletch (1985) 17) Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) 18) Men In Black (1997) 19) Star Wars: the Empire Strikes Back (1980) 20) Star Wars: a New Hope (1977) 21) Back to the Future (1985) 22) X-Men (2000) 23) Mannequin (1987) 24) Life is Beautiful (1998) 25) Schindler's List (1993) 26) The Passion of the Christ (2004) - Aramaic with English caption 27) Interview with the Vampire (1994) 28) Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) - Spanish with English caption 29) Midway (2019) 30) Paprika (2006) 31) Johnny English (2003) 32) Cinema Paradiso (1989) - Italian with English caption, shorter version, not extended version 33) The Man who Killed Don Quixote (2017) 34) Aladdin (2019) 35) Avengers: Infinity Wars (2018)

I thought the world "decimate," literally translated from Latin to " taken a tenth," meaning that if there had been an attempted mutiny or similar activity where you might want to punish a large number of people whom you can't afford to just execute then you could decimate that legion so that regardless of rank or any other external factors every soldier is given a one in ten chance of being executed. It's surprising how forcing a group or team of people to have to execute a random selection of their number by their own hand can strike so much terror into such hardy individuals as you'd likely find amongst such folks.

This is why I like Kermode's reviews. Reviewed for the people it's made for, not as a critic. Far too many people being cork sniffers about the MCU being "not cinema" and things like that. I do think it would be better if they dialled down the pace of release of films though
