Avengers: Endgame Writers Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely Interview
Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are so prolific together they've become synonymous with one another. They’ve collaborated on each and every professional credit save for one; an acting gig. They both appear side by side as SHIELD Interrogators #’s 1 & 2 in Captain America: Winter Soldier, but only McFeely is credited as Secretary Ross’ Aide in Infinity War. (For shame! But they wrote the film together so I guess we’ll let this one pass). Hell, their Wikipedia page is even a double bill: ‘Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely”.
Markus and McFeely have not stopped or even slowed since kicking off the Chronicles of Narnia trilogy in 2005. They then took to Marvel, writing much of the MCU’s greatest hits including the Captain America Trilogy (First Avenger, Winter Soldier, and Civil War), Thor: The Dark World, and of course Avengers: Infinity War, followed closely by Avengers: Endgame. They also created ABC’s Agent Carter series together (and wrote the often unfairly maligned Pain and Gain).
Year after year, this duo writes some of the biggest tentpole movies with more depth and attention to detail than most blockbusters are ever given, not to mention the world-building and seed-planting for future franchise growth that is unrivaled in cinema. Endgame was a downright victory lap of 3 Phases worth of Marvel Studios films, culminating in a tour-de-force retrospective of their work! With each new project, they manage to appease most comic fans, while modifying classic comic storylines to suit modern cinema time and time again. But how?
I sat down with Markus and McFeely at San Diego Comic-Con to discuss their process of adapting from comic to screen, how we’ve evolved past the age of the deep-cut, and which Marvel universes and characters they’d love to write.

This is a wonderful interview. Everyone really appears to be having a good time, and are very relaxed, just enjoying and relishing how far comic book movies have come with Avengers: Endgame's work.

I'm so excited when they said Silver Surfer standalone. The coolest Marvel character. He is sorrow. He is silver. He ride the space with a silverboard.

It is interresting to point how they describe 8:50 MODOK - big scary head to be hideous. In comes Jeff Lovenes - Modok is supposed to be funny he is giant floating head, you can´t tell me to take it seriously... (his own words in nterview)

Loveness and Waldron, I call them Rick and Morty have been a key part of the MCU's phase 4 and 5 disasters.

@@summertyme5748 I will not blame Loveness and Waldron - for one Loveness maybe had a good ideas but his vision was terrible. Waldron I am still not decided how to feel when he is penning The Avengers, for some reason Feige chose him. He made Loki and Doctor strange 2 - which I did not find as good as first or something spectacular but I can see rewrites and covid and stuff behind the scenes. Hope it works out well in the end but I miss the days when Marvel was unstoppable and everything was an event

I have pitch for X-Men; Thanos snap dusted people from all ages and all types right, after the Hulk snap those people who returned start showing strange signs, a 36 years old guy named Scott Summers started blasting lazer from his eyes and 2 major scientists who're treating those mutations named Reed Richards and Susan Storm. They also discovered that energy signature of stones from both planets collide and formed a cosmic cloud in space, to further investigate the source of those mutations they took a trip to space, something goes wrong they also mutate thus the Fantastic 4. Also people who returned back are having trouble fitting in after 5 years some of them who lost their families and jobs starts using those abilities for their own benefits etc...

The worst writers for the HULK ever. They were clueless when it came to writing for the Hulk and just turned him into a joke and disappointed countless Hulk fans. I hope they never touch that character again.

Wrong. Per the best Hulk writer ever Peter David. Hulk has kid fans - who really don't want a character, certainly not an actor. They just want a cartoon come to life in CG who only does smash. Peter David created Professor Hulk, and loved Endgame because he realized the character was dead, as along as he was trapped into the same ridiculous Banner nerd/Hulk smash, and the story refuses to let him change or grow. Fans - killed the Hulk. Peter David and now M&M and the Russo's gave him life. I don't expect the SMASH kids to like it. They really don't have to like it. But audiences loved it, as Endgame become FAR AND AWAY the most loved Super Hero film of all time. While this may hurt your feelings...audiences *never* cared for smash Hulk as his films always flopped.
