I think you intentionally undermine the success of Black Panther by stating that Black Panther is one of the highest grossing movies of all time. It is not "ONE OF". . .it is the highest grossing movie in world cinema HISTORY! FULL STOP! I hear an attempt to negate this by stating it is one of the highest because this is the only Marvel movie that has achieved this by tapping into the black african market. No movie will never be achieve this again without this being the driving factor.

I realised when watching the movie, Thanos knew Stark’s name because Stark was responsible for killing people with his weapons, wars have two sides so by giving one army the weapons Stark was essentially killing the other half like Thanos does now. *And* when Thanos tells Starlord he likes him it’s because Peter understands the idea of sacrificing to save the many which is why he lets Peter go, same with Wanda. This just shows how deeply Thanos believes in what he’s doing. He’s not a typical hothead powered by vengeance, he truly believes what he’s doing is right, same with Kilmonger and that makes him a good villain.
@AJ-ri1jt
@AJ-ri1jt 5 лет назад
Agreed about your second paragraph, but that is an odd interpretation for Tony/Thanos as Tony would hardly be a standout (especially compared to someone like Thor who has been fighting wars as a leader for 1000+ years) and I highly doubt Thanos would pay attention to small conflicts (which on the grand Thanos scale, any wars Tony had any involvement in would be) over a couple decades on Earth. Anyway, the Russos confirmed that Thanos knew of Tony because he looked into the failure of the Chitauri invasion in Avengers 1 and learned that Tony was the one to destroy his forces and ultimately the reason his plan to invade Earth failed.

The writers in MCU seem to have taken notes. Besides, there already have been villains with a shallow motivation, like Malekith and Ronan (though Ronan might get some depth in the Captain Marvel movie).

Yea, that's mainly because the writers (Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely) and directors (Joe and Anthony Russo), and even actor Josh Brolin, have opted to extensively give Thanos emotional depth and a tragic backstory, and even make him more-or-less the protagonist of _Infinity War,_ something that both Apocalypse and Steppenwolf were never given.

Oh no, Spiderman died. *Sees that there's going to be a Spiderman: Homecoming 2. Oh no, most of the Guardians of the Galaxy died. *Sees that there's going to be a third Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm starting to think that the MCU shouldn't announce movies too far in advance. The dramatic tension isn't as strong.
@jimmy2k4o

Thanks Hermione yeeeeeeah because without the prior announcements people would believe those sequels wouldn’t happen or those characters are dead for good...? Announcing sequels of popular movies encourages public investment in marvel and Disney.

@Bluey306
@Bluey306 5 лет назад
Funny 'cause even knowing all that, there was enough dramatic tension during fight scenes and the lot to really convince me that the stakes were HIGH and any of them could potentially die. I think it was the way the movie begun, that which essentially reduced Thor Ragnarok to a Scrappy story, setting up its tone and how our heroes are going to be treated. At the end, of course, I did go, "hang on, these characters have sequels planned -- or at the very least has made a significant impact either financially or culturally (re: Black Panther) for the execs to milk for what's worth -- so they definitely aren't dead right?" but there was enough uncertainty that ran through the core of A:IW that had me figuratively biting my nails both during the movie and long after it. That said, that was MY experience with A:IW (along with a few others that I've talked to), so I can't totally speak for your experience or everyone else's. Just my two cents anyway. Also as jimmy2k4o mentioned, the announcement of these sequels encourages public investment in the MCU -- and considering how far Marvel Studios has gone with their Cinematic Universe and how it has become deeply rooted within the public consciousness and film industry, they don't exactly have anything to lose with the way they churn out these movies (for one, they don't just do the typical summer-blockbuster once a year anymore) and have it marketed so early. At the very least I would feel more compelled to keep up with their IW storyline because, if Peter Parker not truly being dead is a foregone conclusion thanks to the sequel, I want to know HOW that's going to happen. But anyway.

Something I found refreshing about Thanos is how unique a villain he is. Clearly he’s the film’s protagonist. It’s scary how much he thinks his vision of life in the universe is the right one. The fact that instead of snapping up more space and resources for life he is adamant that the only way is to exterminate half of all sentient life. I think it enforces the idea that though he is rational he is also indeed a Mad Titan! Then there is the whole logical but twisted sense of fairness and mercy he possesses. He annihilates randomly without pretenses of social class, or nitpicking victims, it’s 50% death and it’s wickedly fair in that sense without a doubt. And with the Gauntlet and Stones he exterminated painlessly, no torture or pain, just random disintegration. To top it all off he doesn’t seek to become essentially God to rule and subjugate the universe, he has a goal, a mission, that he thinks makes him the unsung hero of the universe that’ll never be understood or praised by grateful life; but he has done it and will watch the fruits of his great labor and leave life now to their, as he sees it, better future and fate. He has a messiah complex and has sacrificed what he loves for the greater good... 😈 Mad Titan Thanos!

Ruben Avalos that is the things about Thanos. He represents what a strongman leader is. Willing to eliminate anyone even the innocent just to fix the problem.
@worldthroughabucket
@worldthroughabucket 6 лет назад
In a crude kind of way, exterminating half of all life does sorta make more sense than creating more space and resources. Life grows exponentially and because of that if he were to double up all available resources, life would catch up a lot faster to those resources than half of all life to the current resources (in theory at least). Let's say if you were to think of resources as bread. For example, if we were to say that there were 100 people and 100 pieces of bread and a piece of bread would last a person for a day. And assuming that creating 1 bread costs the same amount of energy from the gauntlet as killing a person. Seeing as how the gauntlet and stones broke in the end if we were to believe that he would only have the energy to either kill 50 people or create 50 more bread. The only two outcomes we would have would either be to have 50 people with 100 bread, which would last them 2 days or 100 people with 150 pieces of bread, which would only last them a day and a half. So with that logic, killing half of the people is the correct choice.

Ruben Avalos I don’t think that Thanos can add to the universe. Yeah he can make more food from elements in the environment. But by doing so, you still take away from the environment. Get it? And he cannot add more matter to the universe. Hashtag Balance. So destroying half of the life, he not only gives those who are alive more to work with, but he returns elements to the earth with the lives he sacrificed. By making more food, he takes away from the environment, and imbalances more.

There is no cliffhanger, there's a very definite resolution to this film. The protagonist had a complete plot arc, a complete character arc, and succeeded in his goals whilst the antagonists failed. If Avengers 4 hadn't been announced this film barely even hints at a continuation other than that the 'heroes' where the ones who failed.

Everything else made sense except the comparison between Thanos and Killmonger. Killmonger, though spurred on by his tragic past just like Thanos, was not doing anything for the greater good. It was all for himself. While Thanos truly believes that he is saving the world from the fate that plagued his home planet. At the end he does not crown himself king but retreats into a peaceful corner and leaves the world to itself.

@NikMP99 6 лет назад
Linnyboy dude dont be so harsh, you talk like in all the films so far they were killing characters and bringing them back with no reason! and that's false. The one case except for this movie is loki dying several times and he was brought back because of the peoples' rejection to his actual death. No more characters have done it. So the "How many times" that you start with has no reason. Secondly, this whole movie and the next above all have this all thing of going back to the past to change things so it means they are coming back because they're erasing the present situation and furthermore the most common theory is that they are not actually dead but inside the mind stone world. So dont go talking shit unless you give logic reasons to support your words.

matt carnes I think it was for the dramatic plot twist and cliffhanger and for the plot in the next part, I'm pretty sure that the avengers who didn't die don't just want to leave the universe with half of the population dead, so they will have to fix it. I think that it was good writing because of the twist that mostly new characters died even though we expected someone older like iron man, the especially emotional scene with spiderman was very well done and I believe that it will have an impact on iron man in the next movie, the deaths of the characters will drive the left avengers to find a way to bring them back. And like in the video, I theorize that they'll use the soul stone which requires a soul, so one of the old avengers would sacrifice himself which then would end the era of the original avengers to make place for the new. I like what the video said, those 2 movies are like passing on the torch to the next generation. So visualizing that by rescuing them (and the universe) and dying for them is in my eyes very symbolical and amazingly written.

As much as I appreciate the points in the video, I disagree with a few things. The video make it look like the old Avengers are like a burden and the Infinity War movie signals that they should retire. I never felt that they are overshadowing the newcomers. In fact, both the old and new school are working side by side. If they want to retire or end up dying, it is OK. But saying that it time to step off and let the newcomers take centre stage did not sit well with me. Captain America is immortal and never age. He have been doing his job since World War and is still going strong. Is it fair to say that he is hindering the new class of Avengers? As far as I can see the old heroes are happy that they have more fighting alongside them and they are recruiting more. The newcomers are doing what they want freely, unless they are working under the directions of a leader. As for the old ones making mistakes, everyone does that. Even superheroes. The newcomer Star-Lord lost his cool and enabled Thanos to escape. That is a mistake, right? Whoever has made the mistake, all the Avengers both 'elder' and 'new' have to fix it. I am watching 'The Secret War' series and when the default Avengers were gone, new ones took their place. And before disappearing, Captain America told them to do what they have to in their stead and avenge. He did not say, " Oh it is time for us to go and so we are passing on our legacy." If some old school Avengers decide to retire, as I have said before, that is fine. But they have yet to reach that point (unless they die), well at least most of them. Seeing how Marvel comics are written over the ages indicate that they will come back again with new stories being written about them. And the video's explanation about the inner meanings of the stones seems rather forced. Not everything has to have some hidden meaning. The Avengers movie may be full of surprises but it does not necessarily have to be symbolical. Of course, I could be wrong.

Yeah, but according to his philosophy, the 50% that does survive will be able to do so in complete prosperity, never once having to worry about a shortage of resources. In Thanos' mind, this is the best possible consequence and therefore beneficial to the greatest number of people, which, AT least to him, completely justifies his actions.
@RK-ep8qy
@RK-ep8qy 6 лет назад
secret pieperson no it is utilitarian because as Thanos states about his own home planet, there wasn’t enough resources and everyone on this planet went extinct - rich or poor. Thanos’ intentions are pure, his means justify the end because it’s either 50% live fulfilling lives where they don’t go to bed hungry or 100% die due to extinction. His method allows people to live good lives without fighting for food or starving like Gamora did before he took her in, he is essentially the saviour in this narrative. Yeah every now and then he’ll have to cleanse the population to 50|50 again but in his utopia not a single person will be without wealth compared to the current climate of most having nothing and some having too much. The only fault he has is playing God, nature has balance so his theory will eventually fall apart but essentially, *(tl;dr)* the bare bones of his idea is utilitarian because it’s 2 bad lives < 1 good life

I can’t wait for Avenger’s 4, I love MCU and ScreenPrism!! The older characters have to go out on a heroic, sacrificial high note rather than the result of Thanos’ plan. That’s a much more satisfying transition!

Great video! The MCU is definitely doing it way better than Lucasfilm/Star Wars. It is simple all about storytelling and good payoffs. Something the new Disney/SW movies are completely ruining, with reckless abandon. Thanks for sharing your thoughts & stay safe!

I’m pretty sick of this idea that “old” hero’s need to die to make room for the “new”. (Younger) heros. It is a stupid idea. There is fuck all wrong with old and new side by side. But that is all Hollywood is today. Mostly garbage.

I just had the movie spoiled for me today before I've even gotten the chance to see it yet. FUCK!!! Still, I'm none to happy about the ending. I'm hoping Black Panther becomes the next leader of the Avengers, he's the best candidate in my belief. I'm curious about Captain Marvel though (but I don't see how she exceeds the strength of certain characters, ex. Thor (who is a fucking god)).

I still don't understand how Tony DIDN'T die. Thanos full on IMPALED HIM. The nano-tech that we see him "shooting" out of his hand to sure up some more of the suit, I don't see how that would've stopped, or even reversed his massive internal bleeding.

Eh couple things this channel gets wrong... old dying and making way for new is such a black and white way of looking at the MCU. We don't need character deaths and sacrifices for conclusions. Cap is suggested to be out completely, and he likely is, but that doesn't mean anyone else is taken off the active roster. Iron Man's fanbase has increased dramatically with the most recent movies, and they've made talks to discuss a 4th movie. Thor is likely to stick around after Ragnarok was a hit, so that's a 4th movie there. We have a possible Black Widow movie in the future to look forward to, and maybe a Hulk reboot/prequel after this as Norton didn't do the role justice, and MCU points at that movie as the OG MCU kick off, but does so unwillingly. So no... old doesn't need to die and fall away to make way for the new. GotG is on hold indefinitely, Black Panther did well at the box office, but that's because of the massive hype train. The movie is actually quite boring, and black panther is a fairly uninteresting character. You also have Dr. Strange who had a poor response in post-theater release, and Antman which is probably a franchise most likely to be chopped next to Chris Evans' Captain America, and that's relatively new as far as characters go. As stated, there's no black and white, no clear cut resolve. The MCU doesn't follow the comics to a T, and the infinity war has been done so many times, it's hard to say what direction they'll go... will they retrieve the gauntlet and undo the snap... will they use the reality stone to merge two polar opposite realities where the other 50% of the universe is still alive.... will they use antman's sub-particle abilities to travel through time and undo the damage done? Who knows... but currently, the only confirmed released IP is Chris Evans' Captain America. Do not be shocked if Bucky takes the Blue helm though.

Before this movie and before knowing anything about Thanos, I always said Darkseid was better mostly because I am more of a DC Fan, but after this I realized that Darkseid is kind of a boring villain, Thanos motivation is awesome and it kind of makes you think about morals and whether or not he's even bad at all, while Darkseid is your run of the mill "I'm going to destroy everything and rule the Universe" kind of Villain, all he wants is to teraform the planet to make it like Apokalips which is basically what General Zod wanted to do, only slightly different he wants to make it a new Krypton. It's sort of a boring motivation.

The old giving way to the new through sacrifice, done respectfully and tactfully. That's my hope for A4. I want the new, but the old respected in its passing while still pointing out their flaws. Basicly everything TLJ didnt do.

The argument that doubling resources would solve the problem are ignoring the real world problem of greed. Greed and theft will still exist, a hungry businessman will still steal from a hungry family. In addition to Thanos being torturous and somewhat enjoying the fight, committing genocide would startle humanity more and force them to get their act together. If you notice in Endgame, many of the streets are empty and people are mourning. There's no time for crime, nor is there an abundance of things to steal. Humanity is wounded and people are still reflecting on what happened. That said, I am not excusing nor agreeing with what Thanos did at all. Genocide is still genocide.

I hate the fact that Captain America is gonna sacrifice himself in Endgame. I feel like the older characters like Thor, Iron Man, Cap and Hulk are gonna be way better than the newer ones. I grew up with them. The only new character I really like is Dr. Strange.

Everyone thinks tony is so important, what if strange saving him live was just a professional courtesy, a misdirect? They want you to think tony is the solution, but what if Dr Strange knew he had to give the stone to Thanos either way, so decided to make Thanos think that he was trading it for Tonys life.

You could probably read the deaths of the younger generation of heroes as the equivalent to a Christian event in revelations called "rapture," in which souls deemed worthy are chosen to be taken away from Earth in order to not experience the apocalypse.

Thanos did not commit genocide as genocide is mass killing to exterminate or suppress an ethnic, religious, social or political group, Thanos just killed randomly.

I don't think Thanos had the ability to snap his fingers and make more materials. When he alters reality he doesn't *actually* create anything, he casts an illusion. When he finally snaps the people effected dont simply disappear, they turn to ash. What I'm getting at is that he can't create or destroy matter. He simply changes its form. It seems that the infinity stones still have to adhere to some semblance of the laws of physics.

I’m not sure that Thanos it a utilitarian utilitarian would not be willing to use the infinity gauntlet as it causes far more pain then it alleviates. I would consider him a survivalist as he is willing to do anything to stop sentient species from going instinct, even if that means calls in continuing suffering without corresponding pleasure for anyone

Yeah I get that. If you watched the film, why do you need the Ending and the Themes explained to you? You saw it. It's there. I understand certain films that are real high concept with subjective endings left open to the audience for interpretation or meaning, but this is Marvel movie made for the lowest common denominator of the mass public. There's no hidden message. It's just plain as day. Having watched the video I understand the video is not just "the ending explained". The depth behind my title teasing comment is that of puddle.
