Cap was using EVERYTHING he had just to hold back Thanos's hand for a few seconds, and Thanos floored him with one punch. The Hulk was actually able to rock Thanos with his punches and took more than one to be put down. In both instances, Thanos was not using any of the gems. He was just using his own power.
Thanos is not above toying around. Proof of this is when he ALLOWS Hulk to get hits off on him. Ebony Maw says "Let him have his fun". In other words, Thanos isn't serious all the time. He allowed Cap to think he was doing something, but clearly floored him with one hit. However many stones he had was irrelevant because he wasn't even using them when he fought Hulk or Cap. He physically beat down Hulk with his own strength and punched Cap unconscious. No stones were used at those points as indicated by none of them glowing. In the movie, they glow when they are being used.

We know the basic premise of Thanos and his motivations, they all made sense, it was enough, the movie had over 20+ characters to balance out + all the hype surrounding the movie, not to mention millions of fans who won’t always be pleased, this movie was phenomenal and a huge thank you to all the people who have journeyed with marvel for these last 10 years, can’t wait for Avengers 4

The power scale differences was very inconsistent to me as well. I noticed this very early on with the Scarlet Witch and Vision fight, I kept thinking "Stop playing Scarlet, wreck their shit." Seeing Black Widow handle Proxima Midnight like that, I was like WTF?! The Cap punch by Thanos was also one of them, I thought he crushed his skull in. lol Cap didn't get enough screen time as well. Anyway, all the points you just made are on point Jody but I have to say that I still enjoyed the movie.

They explain in the movie that stormbreaker is enchanted and made out the same metal as the infinity gauntlet( which was used to harness the power of the gauntlet)which is why Thor was on semi equal footing with Thanos and why thanos could block scarlet witches power since it originated from the mind stone. It’s almost like in civil war when panthers vibranium claws were able to scratch caps shield

Thor didn't need the axe to be great, he just needed something that could kill Thanos. As great as Thor is, on his own, without a weapon specifically designed to do so, he can't destroy Thanos with just his power--especially if he couldn't kill Hela with just his power. It would've been inconsistent.

Thanos reason was explained in his flashback, he said he try to warn his people about over population and limited resources but they didn’t listen and I’m guessing they destroyed their civilization. So now he wants to balance the universe out so what happened on his planet won’t happen again elsewhere
What's good Jody and you already know baby YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Well I saw Infinity War and it was a good film overall, but has it's flaws. Every film has it's flaws no matter how much DC and MARVEL anboys try to cover them up with excuses. I'm a OLD SCHOOL UNBIASED FAN OF BOTH MARVEL AND DC. Storyline(A-) I like how they gave each character screen time, but some didn't deserve that much screen time. Black Panther didn't get much screen time which i had ZERO problem with. Some scenes were cut and didn't show us how Thanos got certain stones. The ending with certain characters living was a little head scratching. Pacing(A+) It wasn't a boring film at all and 2 plus hours went by fast. Still think it should have been 3 hours plus though. Character Development(B+) Some characters shouldn't have been fighting Thanos AT ALL and it's not believable. Baby Groot still sucks and Iron Patriot still alive is not right.Thor FINALLY was the Thor we should have got in the first 3 films. Hulk was fucking WEAK and that's something that shouldn't be. Action(A-) It was great to see certain characters fight each other, but some weren't believable. Star Lord beating Spiderman? ABSOLUTELY EMBARRASSING. Scarlett Witch fighting Thanos? NOPE!!! Then almost pulling Thanos glove off? NOT BELIEVABLE AND SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPEN. Captain living after taking a direct punch from Thanos? NAW!!!!!! Villians(A-) Black Order was tight overall and were about action more so than dialogue. Thanos was great overall, but I think he could have been even better in certain situations. He's the most powerful person in the universe so let him be more vicious. CGI(B-) Certain scenes you can tell especially with Thanos was kinda bad. Wasn't expecting that at a with the budget and build up leading towards the film. Comedy(A-) It was the right amount of comedy and didn't make a serious film into a joke like Thor Ragnarok. Some funny lines will never be forgotten. Tone(A+) It was a serious film so you needed that serious tone. That's something we usually don't get that from a Marvel film. Overall it was a good film and the flaws were definitely noticeable. This is my unbiased opinion about this film and it had memorable moments. Thor appearing in Wakanda, Captain America and Black Panther running in front of the group going into battle. Grade(A-) Great movie overall and yes it was better than Black Panther. Jody, I rewatched the old Avengers movies after this one. There's a part in Age of Ultron that really stuck out to me. Tony talks about fighting an impossible threat (ie Thanos) and Cap says "we'll do it together" then Tony says they'll lose and Cap says "then we'll do that together too". Its such a pure Avengers/super hero moment and it always made me look forward to seeing them fight together in Infinity War, even after Civil War happened. Your comment about not seeing those two together hurts even more now.
Agree to strongly disagree on this one, Jody. It's not a perfect film, and I agree with you on some of the flaws of the film. But man, do I want to watch this movie again. I LOVE Thanos as a villain. It's funny Jody,...you and I gave this movie the same grade. You gave it a "C",...I gave it a 7 out of 10,...which is a 70% or a "C -". Visually, this movie was stunning, of course. Parts of it were really enjoyable,...even great. But, some parts were just wrong, and I appreciate the way you detailed those. I've only seen the movie once, and I do need to see it again. But, as I left the theater I felt conflicted inside and I wasn't sure why. Some parts of the movie really touched me, such as the clear deep love Vision and Wanda felt toward each other and the internal struggle she had when she knew she'd have to kill Vision to save the universe. That was portrayed very well in my opinion. Also, when Bruce and Natasha saw each other for the first time, after years had passed,....that made me feel something. Strange and Tony's development, both arrogant "know-it-alls", but moving past that for the greater good, and even forming a respect for one another. Even the oath between Peter and Gamora, when she made him swear on his mom to kill her if the time came, knowing that was the most important thing she could have him swear on,...and her looking at Peter in tears as Thanos held her, saying, "You promised." The conflict in Peter's eyes and the weight on his heart,...you could see all of that and it was done well... But, Jody, you said it best. Even though those things made the film seem epic or feel epic,...THERE WAS NO STORY! I appreciate how you said that this movie relied on the action to "woo" its audience,...sadly, at times using action that made no sense,...i.e. the Hulk getting thrashed by Thanos, but every other human with or without powers holding their own against him. I'm gonna nerd out a little here and reference the comics,...Spider-man, in the comics can lift 10 tons (per Marvel's website). That's 20,000 pounds. Few people in the Marvel universe are that strong. If anyone, strength-wise, might stand toe-to-toe with Thanos, Spidey might be a contender, physically. But, the rest of them,...no. The Hulk, possibly even Thor,...they might do well or at least do OK. But, humans with just a measure of strength beyond what is normal,...no. And, Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet,...none of them would have a chance! Also, The Black Order,...the only one that seemed to be at a power level he should have been at was the sorcerer,...and as you mentioned, his death left much to be desired. The rest of the Black Order were unimpressive and died easily. Like you said, why can Cap, Black Widow, and Falcon beat TWO members of The Black order, and Vision and Wanda, two EXTREMELY powerful individuals, get beat down by them? And, the idea that a blade from Tony's armor can cut Thanos, but a punch from the Hulk can't? Preposterous! These add to the reasons why this movie failed. I think of a trilogy that had a phenomenal story,...it was story driven. And, yet it had action. It had great action in fact. But, the action supported the story,...it enhanced the story. The story wasn't great because of the action,...the action was great because of the depth of the story and the immense focus on the characters' development! That trilogy is "The Lord of the Rings" movies; Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and Return of the King. All epic stories culminating in the telling of one beautiful story, with characters so deep and so rich,...a story enhanced by the action,...not defined by it. There's so much that could be said about Infinity War, Jody. It had its pluses and minuses. But, at the end of the day it wasn't quite what it could've or should've been,...and that's just too bad. Thanos needed to close his fist to activate the stones he wanted; they never let him do it so his durability is normal Thanos level. Strange was already confirmed as one of the strongest characters and was probably stronger than Hulk.

I think Disney didn't want Thanos to show his "Death Cult Philosophy" in the movie. Hopefully we get a 3hr cut of the movie. This was probably the best version of Thor in an MCU movie. Still give the movie a B+.

Thanos story wasn't about him being evil in this movie cause technically he wasn't evil and wasn't trying to kill the avengers only when they were stopping him from doing what he was trying to do.
I thought he explained his motivation twice in the film (Thanos) once when speaking to Gamora before he tortured Nebula then again on Titan to Dr. Strange before he was ambushed. Somebody wasn't paying attention and just wants to make the movie into something else to cover up for his toddler attention span. To say Steppenwolf was a more fleshed out villain is fuckery at best.

Um, Hulk was *_bodied_* at the beginning by Thanos and IIRC, Hulk easily punched Thor away in the first Avengers, so that means that Thor definitely needed Stormbreaker to be able to channel his powers, since he's nowhere near as strong without it at this point.

Well, this movie was good overall. Jody is right on point. Everything he is saying is why the movie only got a B on rotten tomatoes (86%). Most critics did highlight the incoherent power scaling and linear storyline. Jody I agree with you. Overall, like Jody said, the epic soundtrack and moments, script, etc, made it a good movie overall, and that's why audiences liked it. But so many people and critics were still confused by Stormbreaker vs the Infinity Gaunlet, and the ending.

I liked what I saw, but at the same time, I felt nothing for many of the events ppl say are significant. This tweet sums up my thoughts exactly. Squashedeyeball. He missed Thanos whole motivation.....like he forgot Thanos talking about the Lottery to eliminate half the population of his world....Thanos had saw the results of his plan not being implemented (Titan) and the fruits of its results (Gamoras world). That's a big part
jamel mccormick Jody knows all that. What he's saying, is that we don't know why Thanos cared about his own planet to begin with. He has shown that he is a cruel tyrant who has little care for others' lives. So why does he care about anyone but himself? if he always was this compassionate about life, then why he went insane and is now trying to wipe out half of the universe? Some say that what happened to his own planet and his sense of failure drove him mad. If that is the case... It's just the easy way to play him out. That's what bothers Jody and the rest: That after 10 years of building him to be this evil, tyrannical threat, his villainy is explained as "he's a madman".
I agree with all the points you gave Jody..... But the reason why iron man stood up to Thanos for a while is because of the new nano tech he's got... You could clearly see Thanos punch iron man and it just breaks and got regenerate coz of the nano bots.... If it was any other suit I could agree with you man..... And by the way great review...... I'm not sure if you know, but in the movie he stated that the population of the universe is too overgrown and exceeded it's limit. Erasing half the universe will bring balance and prevent it's resources to be completely drained. This is what happened on his planet even though he tried to warn his people. When he killed half of Gamara's planet population and caused better living conditions for the people that motivated him to do it to the universe.
Jodie I'm with you on this. While I think the movie was still solid and the action was good, they never really defined the power scaling and possibilities of the stones before and had mad trouble trying to define it in this movie. Let's not forget that thanos easily turned Drax and mantis into noodles and blocks but didn't do it again with any other character. Also, I didn't feel a emotional connection to any of the characters deaths except maybe Loki cause it all happened way to fast. Like the Gamora death I was feeling what Gamora was saying "this isn't love". I'm like "yeah it's really not, it's just convenience to move the plot along". That comes back to the lack of character development for thanos. It's weird cause it's supposedly a thanos villain movie but we didn't get proper character development or rather very simplified development. It defo has its weak points and all your points are valid but even still I had a good time watching the movie so for that reason i would still say it was at least a good film even with those glaring inconsistencies.
I'd just say this. We only have half the story right now. There is still Avengers 4 to go. Maybe Infinity War needed to be a roller coaster ride without a lot of story. Now that so many characters have been dusted, they'll be able to tell a story without having to fill screen time with so many characters.
The way I see it. Thanos should've been able to floor all of them with just the power stone. However in MCU everyone is powered down so I expected them to do the same with Thanos. In the movie Thanos wasn't some crazed villain who just wanted to kill kill kill. If you think about it, he didn't kill anybody that he didn't thought needed to be killed. He just wanted the stones so he could snap his fingers and his job could finally be over. Even the way he was talking in the movie about what he was doing. It was like he believed that that is his only reason for existence. That he was burdened with the knowledge of how to save the universe and only he was the one willing to do it. To me in the movie Thanos didn't give a damn that they were trying to stop him, because he knew they can't. He knew that he is going to win. I do agree that in the movie there definitely was power inconsistency. The one that really annoyed me was (as much as I love him) Cap holding off Thanos when he had 5 stones. Considering that he beat the Hulk with just the power stone. I do see your point and I respect your opinion, but I still liked the movie a lot and would give it an A. ps: apologies for my bad English.
