Just got mine and took it on its first ride, and WOW, I absolutely love it!!! I haven't even gone past pedal assist 2 yet, and I'm ripping up hills at 20mph while still feeling comfortable with a workout. Those same hills on a manual bike, would leave me out of breath and taking water breaks. this bike is really fun, and I'm very happy that I bought it. I ordered before I saw your video, sorry but I really liked your review. Cheers

I have been looking at e-bikes for a while. Arthritis in both knees has been progressively getting worse and riding my bicycles has been getting more painful and not as much fun. This year my left hip decided it too was going to give me trouble and I finally went for total left hip replacement on August 1st. I have yet to ride one of these yet since I just got clearance from my surgeon to what I like with no restrictions. My local dealer had a Level 1 that I really liked and was all set to get it. But since I had to wait anyway, the Level 2 came out and for the extra money it does come with things that the Level 1 did not: lights, torque sensor, and about 8 pounds lighter. I am liking the standard frame in the clay color. Just have t wait for my dealer to get one in so I can try it and make sure I really want one. But from what I am seeing from reviews like yours I am going to love it. Much of my riding is the 15 mile commute each way to work, riding the various bike trails in our area, and exploring the back roads here in New England. I had thought about the Adventure model but I think the Level may be better suited to my needs.

Thanks for a great review on this newly updated bike model. I was anxiously awaiting its public release. I did get a chance to see one in person at a bike shop and was a bit disappointed in the riding position. It was slightly more forward and aggressive than I expected. I would definitely want an adjustable stem and more swept back style handlebars as you mentioned. The Pace 500 Next Gen is definitely more upright and comfortable, however the game changer with this bike is the torque sensor. Thanks again and keep up the great work with the biking vids and for including the links to the accessories you cover.

There is a lot of hype recently about the torque sensor. I discovered the torque sensor was not for me. I have a Level.1 and I absolutely love it. I've put about ~3600 miles on it now. I saw an ad for the Level.2 and had no idea what the difference was between the cadence sensor and the torque sensor. I bought the Level.2 and used it for about 3 days. I had to return the bike....it is too much work and took all the fun out of my biking. I was really happy to get back to my Level 1. I should add that I am 82 years old. I took the Level.2 to an independent bike shop and they confirmed everything was working as it should. My wife has a Pace 500 level 2. She rode the Level.2 for a few miles and agreed that this torque sensor thing is too much work (she is 65). I really liked the level 2 and I wish it was available with a cadence sensor. Sales dept says Cadence sensor is not an option on the Level.2. If you have not ridden an ebike before, try a cadence sensor and then a torque sensor before you buy.

Yes, thank you for your comments. I have the Pace 350.2 and the new Aventure.2. At first I hated the torque sensor but after about 15 miles I really began to enjoy it. I would have returned it initially but the obscene 50% restocking fee made me rethink my strategy. Now that I've ridden the Aventure.2 ~100 miles, I love it. However, there is no way I could recommend this bike to seniors or people who want to have easy rides. The torque sensor makes you work exponentially more than the cadence sensor. I am 65 and loved the cadence sensor but I love the bike for working out so the torque sensor is better for me now. It still keeps my knees from aching so I'm OK with it. I love the workout! But no, not for seniors or the Sunday drivers.

It's a fair point on the sensor -- you do really get out of it what you put in. Granted, at PAS5 there is quite a bit of assist once you start going. It makes me feel more connected to what my bike is doing over a cadence sensor. Definitely not for everyone!

Great review, thanks. I bought my Level 2 before I saw this video. I am still getting used to this model as it's an upgrade from my previous ebike, which I loved, also. This level 2 is an awesome bike and I'm enjoying it very much. Feels sturdier than my previous ebike. And as an avid regular bicycle rider for years, the torque sensor is definitely my preference for a true bicycle riding experience. When I tried a cadence sensor, it was way too squirrely for my taste!

Best review I have seen so far on the Level 2. Range test would be nice to see. What is your opinion on the tires? Never seen that brand and on other reviews no one has talked about the tires and puncture resistant. Opinion on how loud the hub motor is. Thank you for the review. Scott

I understand the bike can be unlocked to permit speeds up to (30!), as you demonstrated, with pedal assist. And I understand the throttle is removable. Question: if the throttle is removed, does high speed with pedal assist still work?

Excellent review I really like what Aventon is doing with their bikes I thing the torque sensor is the way to go. It would feel more natural like a regular bike . Even though I have a Aventon adventure with cadence sensor I don't have a problem with the bike.

It would be informative if you could tell us what your cadence is as you are testing. Maybe that’s something that should be added to the electronics on e-bikes, my stationary bike gives me that info with its simple system.

Great review! I got mine in yesterday and couldn't be happier. I picked it up to replace my cadence sensor bike and it performs exactly the way I wanted. The quality seems equal to some $3000 bikes I looked at.

@@bernievassallo3336 You might want to test drive some with a mid-drive motor, which perform better than rear hub motors, and are more efficient. If possible, test drive some rear hubs ones, too, to compare--just be sure you take them up a steep hill to see how they do; mid-drives are much better at hills.

I’m 76 and bought the last year model at $1600 with front rack and from a dealer that is only 18 miles away. I didn’t like the cadence sensor and was considering trading it for the new Aventon Adventure 2 , but after riding 3 days I decided actually like what I have. The problem I do have is the battery turn on button isn’t working properly so I might have to see if Aventon will give me a replacement battery .

If you ride at the highest gear & use the pedal assist to control your speed. You seem to get the same results with a cadence sensor bike. I have the Aventon Adventure.

What if you intend to ride as often as possible with no peddle assist? Pretty sure I want a throttle (preferably available from stop), and torque sensor. Definitely at least 7 gears. I'm thinking Ride1up LMT, Aventon level 2, or Juiced Crosscurrent X. P.S how does combined Torque and cadence work?

Please definitely do do a range test. Also, is the front fork lockable? I will confess that I really dislike shock absorbers, as I never ride off-road, and on the street shock absorbers just steal energy.

Yes, It would be nice if the could set up the handle bars and stem from the 500. They seem more comfortable. And I concur a UL rating on the battery would be a big plus.

So does this bike has settings to limit the Max speed for PAS ? Like if i want battery to help only upto 10km speed and stop helping if i go faster than 10KM? My wife wants to use ebike as exercise bike and only wants to get help while going uphill very slow . And i know it has on demand switch also.

Ryan is 6'. Aventon offers this frame in two sizes. This is the S/M. The M/L frame should fit taller riders better.

Thanks for you review of the Level 2. Question; Why doesn’t the computer app connect to Strava or the Apple health suites? Also what I’ve noticed with peddle assist is when making a very tight turn if I forget that I’m in assist mode and I start to peddle the motor kicks in and messes up the slow speed needed for a tight turn. Why isn’t there a throttle only mode?

The Level.2 comes nicely outfitted. And the torque sensor feels very nice. However if finances are a concern the Pace 500 with fenders would be a few hundred less. Really there isn’t a wrong answer, both ebikes would work great for what you are looking for.

I have watched a lot of bike reviews, and if and when i get one, i have so far, narrowed it down to The Aventon Level 2, or, the Ride 1 Up 700 series. I would like to know if you could give an opinion on any comparison on those two choices ?

Do you want a more "natural" bike ride feel? Get the Level.2. If you have a little less budget to work, then the 700 series is the choice. And if budget is in mind and you want the "natural" bike feel of the Aventon, check out the Ride1Up LMT'D. They recently changed it back to a torque sensor. If you are looking for the most comfortable ebike, Euphree takes the one. But if you are looking for a more natural riding experience, then the torque sensor on the Level 2 is going to be better. Besides those two differences it is hard for us to pick a superior one. As they are both great ebikes.

I am trying to choose between the Aventon Level 2 and the Adventure 2. I plan on riding on asphalt bike paths as well as the C&O Canal trail in Maryland. I’ve never ridden on that trail. But, it is a combination of dirt, crushed rock and paved. I am wondering if the Adventure model would be overkill for the light duty non paved trails?

I had the same problem. Couldn't decide between the 2 for the longest time but then I went into the store, saw how massive the aventure actually was and for what I'd be using it for 99% of the time, it would be overkill. The only difference between the 2 are the tires, and the motor on the Aventure is 750W sustained...where the Level is 500W sustained but can peak at 750W.

Those considering a Level2, do it. I have the Level1 and will get the Level2 as soon as I can. Upgrades I've made include the adjustable handlebar stem. I don't mind the forward riding position but the OEM stem is a bit much. I also will always recommend a suspension seat post. Nothing like smoothing out the road with the front forks and seat post. A decent seat will round out a near perfect riding experience. So, $1,900 for the Level2 and $500 in additions get you rolling in style. If you ride more than 100 miles a month, you'll be grateful for the investment. Every penny well spent and years of enjoyable experiences. Ride on ya'll......my Level1 got me out on a bike again and I look forward to the torque sensor upgrade.

A couple quick brands that come to mind. The KBO Breeze or RadCity. It might also be possible to switch this ebike to a twist grip throttle. Obviously need to change the grips. We plan to make a video about this change sometime this winter.

Is money a large point of consideration for you? Do you like to ride a bike regularly? Those are the two biggest differentiators to us. The Lectric 3.0 is $999, so a decent bit less then the Level.2. The torque sensor of the Level.2 makes for a more recognizable cycling experience. Neither ebike is a bad option, but both provide a bit of a different cycling experience.

Been reading articles recently about a big increase in e-bike battery fires. Do you know if Aventon bikes are UL listed? Do you know which bikes are? The articles seem to suggest we should buy UL tested. I assume the EU testing would also suffice.

Torque sensors are really ideal if you are riding in areas with lots of hills, the heavier the bike the more this becomes a relevant feature.

Awesome review. It is very informative. You mentioned that it is about 60lbs. Per Aventon website, the weight of Level 2 is 53lbs. Does it mean the 53lbs is still without the rear rack and fenders? I appreciate it.

I weighed one, too, and got 59.2 lbs, with battery and rack. I don't know what the website is on about when it says 53. I found that so irritating--because I felt that the were deliberately misleading, by not saying that that was w/out the battery; most websites don't leave you wondering--that I left the shop w/out buying the bike. (I may go back for it though, b/c it checks all the boxes for me, and a better price than any of the other bikes that do. Hard to find a torque sensor in the this price range, and they are the only way to go, for me.)

Wow, thirty miles an hour, that's hauling the mail on a bike! I'm someone who has been brand loyal in my life. I like my '06 Trek Multitrack 7500 and I'm looking now for an ebike. I'll keep my '06 Trek because I've kept it in fantastic shape but I have to write here that I will be giving this newer brand a serious look and a test ride at a local dealer. Trek is a bit conservative with not offering a Class 2 ebike and they also don't offer a lot of colors on their bikes besides Trek black. This Aventon Level.2 is affordable to me being that I'm retired and can't easily spend much over $2,000 for a bike.

I was already to buy the Aventon Aventure and just saw this review and now am completely torn between the Adventure and Level 2. I want fun, comfort and flexibility. As a former bike commuter, I think you would appreciate the torque sensor's feel. You of course would lose a bit of "ability" by not having fat tires, but for commuting, I think the Level.2 is the better option. A way to merge some of the differences between the Aventure and the Level.2 might be simply to add some gravel-type tires. Almost have the best of both worlds, with a bit less width.

It does not. The payload limit for the Level.2 is 300lbs, which you are still well under. The bigger factor in my mind, is that you are a returning bike commuter. So the Level.2 will have more of a familiar bike feeling that I think you will appreciate. Glad to help. Enjoy your new commuter once you get it. -JT

They always show lights during the day. Its good lookin bike though. Everyone is coming out with duel batteries, I hope Aventon does soon.

Does this bike have room for 2.4 wide tires? I'd like to get a stepover but I"m 70 years young and like the fact that the medium size is about an inch shorter in stepover height, would the medium be large enough for me I,m 5'11" tall , 147 weight.

I’ve had State Farm insurance forever, but that may change, they are not as good as they used be. Anyway with my insurance my bike is probably insured without telling them . I wanted to make sure so for $1800 without any deductible it cost me $110 a year .

Have you investigated the batteries used in the e-bikes you review? With fires making the news, it seems an important thing to consider. Especially with the number of bikes you probably have.

We try and stick with more well known brands in order to avoid this. And we follow the recommended battery storage and charging regiments set up by manufacturers, in and effort to minimize the risk.

Amazed at the speeds. I just purchased a Kalkhoff Entice7.B Move+ with a Bosch motor - it is listed as there 2023 bike and tops of the line with all the bells and whistles, including GoPro front mount, suspension in the front and built into the seat pole. Price is very high - higher than this bike, but not even near as good. E-Speed is maxed out at 15 mph and will literally engage braking at speeds over 18 mph. I understand safety precautions, but bosch and Kalkhoff have excessively high prices and limits they say are laws. Using a hill with a normal none-Ebike I can achieve top downhill speed of about 27 mph (it isn't a very big hill), same hill with a bosch powered Ebike and it is *impossible* to achieve speeds over 18 mph, the bosch motor will not allow it although it can achieve a top assist speed of 31 mph according to bosch. Also, Kalkhoff and Bosch provide no throttle option at all, and an override of the speed control limit means spending money (between 100 and 200) on an adapter that is attached to the motor and voids your warranty. You have to open the motor casing, and attach it. Connecting your mobile is done with Bluetooth and they provide a no mobile = motor block option - so that if someone steals your bike, the motor will not power up, but also means if you lose your mobile or reset it, the motor will also not work for you, and you have to bring it in to be reprogramed. The display is pathetic as is the bosch software. The bike displayed here is a real bargain and I wish I could get one.....

You are right at the max height for the Level 2. I think you would be ok, like you hinted at, you might need to add and adjustable handlebar stem, as the Level 2 does not come with an adjustable stem stock. Another option, use the Aventon dealer locator page, you might be able to find a dealer close to you and try one out in person.

Got question, on Aventon level 2 the rear light can blinking?

No it does not. That blinking is because of the camera's recording settings. LED taillights don't show up nicely on GoPros.

I live in a hilly area. Torque sensors are a bad idea. The times when you want more assist (going up a hill) are the times when a torque sensor will let you down and give you *less* assist. With torque sensors you only get what you give. If you're tired or going up a hill, a torque sensor will give you less assist. I am selling a perfectly good commuter (Ride1Up LMT'D) and getting a cadence-sensor bike for this reason. A cadence sensor gives you the ability to set the PAS and get that level of assist no matter what.

Buyer beware! Aventon has a history of swapping in cheaper parts than what they send to youtubers. Only a couple of months ago customers were getting bikes (Aventure) with Altus instead of Acera derailleurs and 657Wh batteries instead of 720Wh batteries. They don’t notify buyers to allow them to cancel the purchase if they so choose.

the Level.2's are coming with 636 watt-hr batteries, not 672 watt-hour as advertised. The weight is nearly 59 lbs, not the advertised 54 lbs. The tires are Chaoyang. Not the former Kenda KwikDrumlins. be careful with these new bottom bracket mounted torque sensors. Ride1up is on their 2nd design now, after yanking the first one, going to cadence, and recently now trying a second one. These folks wont get a quality and reliable bottom bracket torque sensor at any price. These will be a higher maintenance item, with a higher failure rate than cadence sensors. They also aren't known for staying in tune very long.

Kept asking them and they said, we are working on getting your answer. ... SMH. I would have bought this bike if it had the Components that they used to provide. Think I will be buying the Velotric Nomad 1.

i hate ... i know strong word... let me be clearer... I HATE the torque sensor. Coming from a cadence bike, as far as a cruiser bike, me and my wife have went over 100 miles before on our bikes over a weekend. I dont even want to take this new bike out thinking of how much i am going to have to pedal it, and my wife still has her cadence, so she either has to wait up for me, or i have to kill myself trying to keep up. I wish there was a way to bypass it!!!!
