DAY RELEASE | Running 100 Miles in less than 24 hours | Ultra Marathon Running Documentary
The rules are simple... Run as far as you can and back in 24 hours from (or near from) your home. The final distance is measured as the crow flies from the start to the turnaround point. with medals for 15, 30 & 45 miles.
For me, that meant running over 104 miles for a 45-mile medal.
Running 100 miles has always been one of those running goals I thought I would 'one-day' get around too. I was never sure I would have the time (or inclination) to train for it, but if you're a trail or ultra runner, you will know the 100 miler is the holy grail so it was always on the back burner.
Until I signed up for Day Release by Beyond Marathon. I crunched the numbers and in theory, this would be the perfect opportunity to give it a try.
Join me in Day Release - Running 100 miles in less than 24 hours.
Thanks for watching.

Not for running (I'm yet to run more than 15km!) But I've done some pretty tough runs and bike rides. My go to mantra is "you didn't get up this morning to become mediocre". Works for me and always lets me find that extra bit of energy and push.

Craig, having watched (not yet run) many Ultra 100 Mile race videos, this is by far one of the best! The fact you planned this all yourself, without a race director and support beyond your immediate friends/family, is seriously bad ass. You have guts, determination, grit, beyond just about anyone I know. Thank you for sharing this and inspiring others.

Very inspiring, Craig. I'm a distance man myself, but 62 miles is the most I've done in a day, but I'm hoping to do 75. 100? Wow. Hats off to you, my new friend. I loved how much you loved that bag of McDonalds. There are only certain things you can eat on the road, only certain things your stomach can tolerate, and it's so individual. Sometimes McDonalds is just the thing. Not only is it difficult to do 100 miles in 24 hours, but making a documentary about it is also a vast undertaking. You have done both! thank you for the inspiration that you have provided for many---including myself.

Great video , great effort . Although I do enjoy organised events I find commitments elsewhere make it sometimes tricky to attend the ones I want to run . So in the last few years I have run several ultras of my own , sometimes with my wife cycling along side as company and helping carry gear or with a running mate in the same situation as myself who also struggles to get to races . Those runs can’t be underestimated the sense of achievement is no less than the satisfaction of getting a good time and position in an organised race .

Well @@jimgolden886 worrying about it is half the battle... most people ignore it. The basics... start fuelling early, aim for around 250 calories an hour (unless you’re fat adapted) and approx 500ml of water depending on the temp and test test test before your event. Good luck 🤞

I think some aches and pains, blisters and sores are inevitable, but true injury prevention happens during training. For the first time, I hired a coach and developed better technique. I was plagued with injuries previously. Hope this helps? Thanks for your comments Alastair Geddes

Thanks 4sharing. I'm running a 100 mi in 30 day challenge. I did it in 14 days last time. Im shooting for 10 days this time. Maybe one day I can attempt this. I couldn't even Run one mile when I started into fitness.

Brilliant. Well I’m sure if you can do 10 mile a day for 10 days you’re pretty close physically. Just need to get the prep and mind right 👍 good luck

@@CraigWilliamsUltra holy shit mate. This girl is the real deal who ism running against. Stared 100mi 30 day challenge monday. Defending my gold. She keeps one upping daily. Iam a Sheetmetal Worker doing man shit all day. Im 17 mi ahead at 51. I have been doing 2 a days 2am runs cause I do construction and evening runs. Im getting burnt. Any tips. I think iam going to have to take Thursday and Friday off of work in the name of science and fitness to defend my gold. I will just do 10s every 8 hrs until I win. We are neck and neck. Shes a hairdresser and works from house she runs looks 4mi at time all day until about 12 or 16. 16 is is her PR she says. So.iam shooting for 20s a day or more.

I think I need electrolyte pills. The bcass I can only take 2 scoops in a 24 hr period..says for recovery and has electrolytes but makes me noxious

@@CraigWilliamsUltra We did it Craig. The pills helped with fatigue. I didn't get those exact ones but similar. My opponent got tired of my double days. I finally had to take off work Thursday and Friday to focus fully on the challenge. She advised respectfully she's going to just finish at her own pace. I gave her respect she's tough. I finished in 4 days on my second attempt at 100mi. Not bad huh. Have a good1. Thanks for the tips and sharing this video. Good luck on your fitness journey.
